An amazing evening on the blackthorn, definitely one of the weirdest feelings I've felt at the Gas - winning 7-0 but it meaning little or nothing. The only sour point for me was the way we treated Alfreton. I see them in no way a challenge to us, on or off the pitch, and with no history between us. I would hope we would be a bit classier (considering who we think we are, and how we're different) and and show a bit more empathy for a group of fellow football fans who are now facing a version of the pain we all felt last year. To chant "going down" at them - I was embarrassed, to be honest. You are easily embarrassed then. They dished it out and got some back, it used to be called football banter, whoever you are and whatever team you are. I don't see the problem. We didn't go up as champions, they went down..Tough old world eh?

From watching in the West Stand if appeared more than a few away fans enjoying their last away game, what's was all the aggravation with the stewards etc?
Also why can't home fans respond to a chants about us staying down/the 82er's etc, isn't that what makes going to a football enjoyable.

Credit should go to every supporter of any club that came to the Mem to support their team this season. It's much easier to be a stay-at-home fan 'supporting' a PL team, so credit to those away fans for coming and supporting their club, especially as it's non-league. I hate it when I hear our fans criticising the numbers in the away end, they deserve more respect than that. Yeah, not sure why we think a fan who travels 200 miles to watch his team play crap football with 20 fellow fans isn't doing as good a job as a fan who travels 200 miles to watch his side play decent football with 2000 fellow fans.

What is it with the idiots who chant, "Is that all you take away?" most weeks or yesterday "Going down, going down" etc? Let's face it any away fan travelling to Bristol to stand on a rubbish open air terrace means they are a REAL fan, especially in winter and particularly as in the case of Alfreton they were about to be relegated. I look at the Rovers crowd singing behind the Blackthorn and I do not see some of them at away fixtures.
How can people get upset with Alfreton chanting, "One nil to the Barnet" when clowns are chanting "Going down"? Surely they were hurting as much as we were.
The stewards yesterday did not seem to be positioned correctly, there should have been stewards sat either side of the barrier. Rovers fans had made their way from other blocks to along the top row of the tent to goad Alfreton and a steward had to make his way to the top by climbing overs seats.
Anyone on this forum chanting, "Going down" care to explain, it goes beyond banter?

Ill happily explain about my 'embarrassing' chant.
There was a lot of kids sat close to them yesterday including a girls football team and Stoke lane boys who were the flag bearers. A dozen or so of their fans started to aim some personal chants our way after at 1st singing towards the pitch. They were spoiling for a fight which under the circumstances was way out of order seeing that we were all families. So actually it was deserved, and if suggest you keep your opinions to yourself until you the the facts in future buddy.
After all said and done I clapped their coaches out the ground and we move on.

we are the bigger club, with more fans, a team up by several goals to a team being relegated. We should have shown more respect and class from the terraces.

Chicken and egg, what came first, the "one-nil" chant or "going down"?
The post was about Blackthorn end chanters.
We indeed do move on.

You don't need to explain anything to anybody. Grown men from Alfreton acting the big man and goading in front of children got some back from what I believe. If they happen to have got more then...`you reap what you sow` as the saying goes!
The strange thing for me in this thread is just because it is `little Alfreton` who are about to be relegated doesn't mean there are not any `head cases` amoungst them looking for trouble. Which the big lad with the dark hair certainly was!
Too many Rovers fans playing the high and mighty nowadays.

You are seriously getting on your high horse regarding a `going down` chant to a group of `men` who started the `banter`?? Bloody hell no wonder the game is dead and the world is going mad!

I don't feel that like members going on about the chants are on high horses, the closest I've come to that was on a donkey as a kid at Weston.
Personally, I just feel that fans should be part of the hideously named 'football family' and I really enjoy banter, but not hurtful ones.
I am very against all seaters, being a member of the Stand Up, Sit Down group.

I notice you have conveniently swerved the fact that a group of grown men from Alfreton started the `hurtful` banter whilst standing next to a group of children... but there you go!!

As an Alfreton fan i think some at making a mountain out of a molehill, yes we have a few people who are happy to pay to travel halfway across the country, pay for a ticket to get in and then stand all game watching and singing at home fans instead of watching the game, don't ask me to explain that because i just don't understand it, I'm sure you have your fair share of them yourselves. Being in this league for the last 4 years have been a fantastic experience for us, our town has a population of 7800 people 50% less than at yesterday's game and it's probably been equivalent to you being in the premier league. But all good things come to an end, and we now have to start again on a new journey and in 3 months time we'll be looking forward to the new season starting in the north. Good look to you in the play offs, despite the result yesterday we still had a good day out and it was nice to see your fans clapping us on our way home. Hope we meet again in the not too distant future.

Fans means fans, not only Rovers, so Alfreton are also included in that. Anyway enough with this, let's move on and think about Wednesday, Sunday and to infinity, and beyond!

They clapped our 6th and 7th. Fair play. If they were Manchester United fans, they would have been half way back to LONDON by then
