110 years ago today 25 April 1905 Rovers won the Southern League Championship. It was the club's first ever honour since 1883. Supporters had to wait until 1953 for the next Championship ! and until 1990 for the next one.
Rovers beat Brentford 3-0 at Eastville on 25 April 1905 to secure the league with Reading and the previous years Champions, Southampton finishing second and third in a strong league. Rovers could afford to lose 1-0 at Tottenham in the final game 4 days later as the title was theirs. There was no promotion to the Football League until 1920 when the clubs in the Southern League were all promoted to become the newly formed Third Division.
