Just wondered is this the first time in the professional era, that Rovers have gone into the final game of a league season with the potential to get promotion?
I know we'd already sealed promotion (but not the title) in 1990 and assume we'd sealed it as well in the 70's?

Can't think of any league we have been in with one confirmed promotion place ?

Can't think of any league we have been in with one confirmed promotion place ? I just mean promotion in general, the two times we've won automatic promotion we did it before the final day. My question is have we ever had a shot at doing it but not achieved it whether that's with us starting the day in the drivers seat or not.

Can't think of any league we have been in with one confirmed promotion place ? Div Three South only had one place when we won it in 1953

1969/70 ?
2 games to go we were 2 points behind Orient and 1 ahead of Luton. Rovers lost 2-1 at home to Gillingham and 5-2 at Tranmere, to finish 3rd.
Only know this as I'm halfway through Harold Jarman's book!

Just a thought in old money, two points for a win, we would be 2 points clear at the top going into todays game.

Pretty sure we had sealed in 1973 and it was always just a case of if we'd catch Oldham for the Championship in the last few games. Winning promotion in the 1990's will take some beating but this could just eclipse it should it happens today.

We drew at Southend on a night match to secure promotion in 73/74, and we had Brighon at home after that. We were streets ahead of Oldham at one point but blew that (sound familiar)
My first ever game was the home match to Oldham over easter (lost 2-1), so my memory maybe a bit hazy over events back then (I was only 10 years old) probably some of our more senior viewers (I.e. One F In Dunford) will remember more about events (if dementia hasn't kicked in yet)

I Remembering being there with my dad. On the way out I remember him telling me that the Rovers directors couldn't afford for us to be promoted.
