I can't fault DC for wanting to bring in players on the way up , young, hungry and in it for the footy not the money. I respect him for it. My major worry though is are there really enough quality players good enough to take us up of that mould in non league? Was this not Buckles tactic but for league 2?
Footballers generally do need/ want a good salary and most leave negotiations to agents. Can someone please give me some confidence that we will end up with a decent team with this approach ?

I feel for DC, whatever he decides to do it will be wrong in some peoples eyes. we have tried all the other routes and they have not worked (Que more board bashing). i hope and prey that he can get it right, but i feel he is yet another lamb to the slaughter....

I dont think anyone believes his approach is wrong, I'm very nervous about it, i dont disagree with it. I agree that two things are certain this season 1. Board bashing 2. Board basher bashing. :-)

Well I find his honesty refreshing. Will it work? well that is the question, I know one thing though I will give him 100% for trying, just hope he is able to get the players doing what he wants them to.

I understand the comparisons to Buckle, but DC does appear to have man management skills unlike Buckle. Whether DC can find enough of the type of players he wants and persuade them to join Rovers, we won't know for a good few months yet. I for one will give him time to search for 'his' team.

I don't think for one minute he's not short on options for players. I bet he's inundated with agents offering him players. As you say it's if they're the ones he wants.

I too am right behind Darrell, as I have been from the start. He is honest, open and is clearly passionate about the job, which immediately sets him apart from recent incumbents.
His recruitment policy is exactly what we have all been calling for in all honesty so to hear people moan about it already is frustrating. There will be plenty of youngish players that can do a job for us and Darrell is in the middle of deciding on which of them will fit in here. I think we may see 2 or 3 sign before pre-season begins and then he'll take a look at the trialists and see where we are. He is anticipating Gow proving his fitness and signing on, which would be great if he would take an incentive-based contract, and he can replace the likes of Matt Harrold should he have left by this point.

You have taken my post the wrong way. Im not having a moan and i believe he is doing the right thing. Im just worried if enough players of quality out there care about the right things ahead of money. Time will tell

Time will tell I think you only have to look at the likes of Accrington, Dagenham, Burton etc. from last year to show that its not necessarily about having the best team on paper, but about how the manager puts together a team. I like to think that whatever happens next year this Rovers team will give it their all, and judging by Salisbury under DC will be fit and ready to go come August. Effort beats ability if ability doesn't put in the effort - a phrase I have said a lot (particularly with regards to JJOT...)

I think we have to trust that there will be and all the signs are that he is confident he can put together a squad capable of having us at the top of the division. We will have to wait and see but I am positive that Darrell will give us a ruddy good chance.

I have no confidence in the fella. Good honest talker, yes; but where are all these quality, keen and enthusiastic players he keeps banging on about ? It is clear harrold, brown and smith will be gone. I personally think Clarke is a very keen cheap option with no real track record.

After pathetically failing last season it's only natural to have some doubts about DC.
