Only on Sunday, Gateshead's official site was saying: ... following an underwhelming campaign on the whole, the boss is set to oversee a summer of change in terms of playing personnel. And, after seeing his side slip to a seventh defeat on home soil this season, Mills affirmed that he is more determined than ever to end the club’s long wait for a return to the Football League next time out. He said: “It’s nice to have those ‘firsts’, but at the end of the day, there has to be an achievement. “And my priority is to take Gateshead into the Football League. “I’ve come here to be successful. The chairman has brought me here to be successful. “It’s always lovely to break little records, and we have moved on in the last 18 months – make no mistake about that. “It hasn’t been a horrific season – at the turn of the New Year, when we had those games in hand, we lost major players, and it hasn’t quite gone how we’d have wanted. “But we’ll stick together, and we’ll do everything in our power to come back stronger next season." Mills on Sunday: My priority is to take Gateshead into the Football League

Quickly go and speak to John Oster offer him a 2 year deal and get him to Rovers before anyone else snaps him up. Best player in the Conference.

Cheer up guys.
Things could be worse.
Going into the final game of the season with Rovers desperate for Gateshead to get a point, they could have appointed Clarke as their new manager.

Why all the s**t for Clarke? There are some right fools on here,we are 2nd in the league for f sake were not Barcelona All those people that slag off Clarke don't bother watching his team if he that s**t,who would you like instead? The last 4 managers were s**t so blame the tight as f**k board, they have been lucky he's done so well and we haven't finished mid table Keep it up dc

I assumed you were suggesting the Heed make him player manager! Why do we need the best player in the Conference when there's still a good chance we'll be in the Football League next season. Although will this motivate Gateshead to put in one last decent performance, perhaps to try and convince Mills to stay, or just throw in the towel? Given how important a Conference fixture Gateshead play on Saturday you'd have hoped Wrexham would have left things until next week.

It's not an important game for Gateshead though.

Thank god Easter agreed to play, or not play, for a tuppence hapenny a week.
