The ref today was a complete joke. The worst i have ever witnessed in a football match. He managed to get most of the easy decisions wrong, gave random corners (admitedly to us) when it was clearly a goal kick. The worst as previously stated was when Taylor was through on goal around 70 minutes in and then centre back had both hands on his shirt pulling him back plain as day. Everybody saw it but the ref. Harrison should of been sent off though so I guess i cant moan too much! Sadly he was about average for this season, there have been a few worse including as mentioned above Halifax away.

I can't see what the ref did wrong with the 'they paid £62' comment in the first post, and why he was subsequently dropped for it just shows how administrators are more worried about PR than anything else. As for yesterday, well I though he had a poor game, the Blisset decision being the worst for me. However , I have been at plenty of games where the crowd has berated the ref, when the ref probably had a much better view of what happened, and I would add to that , that sometimes refs, just like players, have a bad game, it is part of football, get used to it.

Halifax away, for me was by far the worst refereeing display I have seen this season. Or ever. Then you my friend have never witnessed this man in action. I didn`t know Monty Panesar used to be a ref. And why is he signaling a wide? Isn`t that something to do with cricket? Most perplexing.

That's the problem.

Despite the ref being so, so bad, a. we won and b. we have Ellis for the next game, a better ref would have sent him off and I do not think it was annoyance with the ref.
It is frustrating having such bad referees, this is where clubs have to play their parts as well. Is it the same in the Conference as in our local council park games that if you give refs below a certain score you have to write a report and so refs get given this minimum threshold score by teams?
(I support the idea that refs can have a bad day, one season I got 10/10 one week, and, deservedly, 2/10 the following.)

Interestingly we never lost a game when Mr Singh reffed our matches. Can you hear the Gurnham Sing? No No

Ok if you like inconsistency, and yellow cards for playing a ball that another fella elects to head a metre off the ground!
Lucky there is no real consequence to his poor decision making, but when pretty much the whole ground reacts to his multiple poor decision making, you know there's no smoke...

Did Gurnam Singh ever referee a match at Eastville? There was one Sikh referee who did so, but I don't recall if it was him or not. I can well remember the groan that went around the ground when he ran out, and yes there was quite a bit of banter too. He always smiled broadly and seemed to join in, but when the game started it seemed that he was playing for the opposition. I could never really tell if he was a poor ref, or just repaying the crowd for their insults to him. I can well remember one wag shouting out at him as he ran out of the tunnel, F***ing hell ref, not you again! He just turned in the direction of the man, smiled broadly and carried on. But it seemed to me that he had the final laugh though.

I've got no idea whether Gurnam Singh is a Sikh or not, but as he never wore a turban, I don't think he's the one you're thinking of.

Gurnam Singh - who never wore a turban - was the first Asian to take charge of a League fixture in Britain in 1989. So he never refereed at Eastville and neither did any other Asian, in a turban or not.

My memory may be failing me but did he send off rob trees and Jason Roberts in the same game vs gillingham at the mem? Seem to remember someone sent a poem about it into radio Bristol after the game, or maybe I dreamt it....

Wasn't it Bournemouth? Rob Trees got a second yellow and took his top off in disgust, while Roberts got booked for getting hauled down by an opposition player and daring to swing his arms trying to keep balance while falling.

We lost four games whilst Gurnam Singh was in charge:-
14/08/1993 H- Bournemouth 0-1 09/04/1994 A - Swansea 0-2 17/08/1994 H- Port Vale 1-3 17/10/1995 H - Bournemouth 0-2
Strung Out, Yes, Gurnam sent off Roberts and Trees in the last time he was in charge of one of our games on 03/10/1998 when we won 1-0 at home to Bournemouth. Trees was sent off for kicking the ball away after a free kick was given against him, Roberts dismissal was as described by you.
He was later removed from the list of referees, but sued the league for racial discrimination and won his case Gurnam Singh

Trees second yellow was for returning the ball to a Bournemouth player so he could take a free kick.
I think we won 1-0. Jamie Shore?

I've got no idea whether Gurnam Singh is a Sikh or not, but as he never wore a turban, I don't think he's the one you're thinking of. I've always believed that all Sikh males are given the surname Singh, and that there are several types of turban too, not just the one variety. They are not all of the full-blown type, and some are designed for participating in sporting events etc, and so are much smaller and less visible and are usually black in colour. In any event not much to do with football is it, so I'll leave it there as I don't want to offend anyone's sensibilities.
