I realise we can't put our relegation last season down to fixture times/dates, but I always felt we really shot ourselves in the foot last Easter when we allowed ourselves to have the SHORTEST gap of all 24 teams between the Easter games (1 day and 20 hours).
Thankfully this season we have given ourselves the joint longest gap (2 days and 22 hours) between the matches as we are one of only 8 teams playing at 3pm on Good Friday. FGR play the Shots at 4.30pm, and the rest play on Saturday at 3pm, including Grimsby and Barnet. Barnet then also take part in the earliest Monday KO, as they are on BT Sport at 12.45pm, so they have the SHORTEST gap between matches (1 day and 20 hours...spot the similarity...). Everyone else plays on Monday at 3pm.
In 2014 20 of the Lge 2 clubs played on Good Friday, whereas we somehow allowed ourselves to go to Pompey on Easter Saturday at 3pm, and then we crazily brought forward the Monday fixture to 1pm, whereas everyone else played at the traditional 3pm.
There was discussion about this at the time on the old official forum, and I'm pretty certain the conclusion was that the 1pm kick-off was nothing to do with police advice, and was all to do with the club thinking they would get a better crowd. Short-term thinking if there ever was such a thing.

Anyone who's ever done any sort of training will know that recovery time is vital so having the longest gap between games this Easter is very important indeed

......... as we are one of only 8 teams playing at 3pm on Good Friday. .... Many thanks for posting this. I had convinced myself that it was another Friday evening kick off. It would have been a bit confusing just getting to the ground as everyone was leaving.

It would have been a bit confusing just getting to the ground as everyone was leaving. ditto. it was a problem until recently as the BBC website still had it down at 7.45pm. The club finally had to put out a notice saying it was wrong and only to trust the official BRFC website / twitter. I had to make sure because I could go if it was 3pm, but couldn't go if it was evening.

I must admit I was pleased when I saw Barnet had such a short recovery time between their Easter games. That was until I noticed Dartford (their Easter Monday opponents) have a very similar recovery period and a trip to Torquay to contend with. I really think that if Dartford had say one game rather than two next weekend it would make a huge difference to their performance against Barnet. Fingers crossed they recover well!

I agree that last season was a bit daft especially as we lost players injured at Pompey. I do remember that in 75/76 we played home to city on Good Friday, home to Saints on Easter Saturday and away to Luton on Easter Monday, happy days.
