Winger joins the club until the end of the seasonBristol Rovers have today completed the signing of Abdulai Hindolo Baggie, whose last league club was Tranmere Rovers, until the end of the season. The 22 year old midfielder began his career with Reading but made his league debut for Rotherham United when on loan with them in March 2010. Loan spells at Port Vale and Crawley Town followed before a permanent move to Yeovil Town materialised in August 2011. However he was released by the Glovers in December of that year without making an appearance and joined Hayes & Yeading United in early January 2012. Almost immediately he left to sign for Salisbury City, then managed by Darrell Clarke, and scored once in five games for them before the end of the 2011/12 campaign. In the summer of 2012 he was on the move again, to Prenton Park, home of Tranmere Rovers and from then until his release by them earlier this season he scored four goals in 47 league games. Abdulai has represented England at U-16 and U-17 level and has won four full international caps for Sierra Leone. Darell said of his new signing; “I know Abdulai from his time with Salisbury and he will provide both cover and competition for a place in the squad. “It’s very difficult, with only six games of the season remaining, to bring in a player who has the ability to step straight into the side if selected. “We will be without five players this weekend and it’s imperative that we have cover in the event of any more players missing through injury in the remaining weeks of the season and Abdulai fits that bill.” Chairman Nick Higgs concurred, saying; “Darrell has worked hard to bring in players to strengthen the squad for the last six games of the campaign and Abdulai is someone who is capable of doing that. “I would like to welcome him to the club and wish him every success during his time with us.” The players missing from the squad this Saturday are Neal Trotman and Staurt Sinclair through injury, Ellis Harrison and Jake Gosling, who are on international duty, and Lee Mansell, who is suspended. Over 50 football league appearances on his CV, England youth international, good signing by DC, a chance for the lad to earn himself a deal next season. I was expecting another LDV, Dawson or Wakefield signing out of a championship development squad, but this one is a pleasant surprise.

Welcome to the Pirates, Abdulai. I see that he's played for Salisbury in his time, so he's known to the manager, and to that end I think that we're all trusting in DC's statement that he wouldn't sign a player for the sake of it. Having said that I haven't heard of the player previously, not that that matters a jot of course.

Abdulai Hindolo Bell-Baggie (born 28 April 1992) is a Sierra Leonean professional football winger who plays for League Two club Tranmere Rovers. Born in Sierra Leone, Bell-Baggie represented both the England under-16 and England under-17 national teams before winning a cap for Sierra Leone in 2013. A former Reading player, he has played on loan for Rotherham United, Port Vale, and Crawley Town and was briefly contracted to Yeovil Town and Hayes & Yeading United. He joined Salisbury City in January 2012, before switching to Tranmere Rovers seven months later. Bell-Baggie attended Hillside and Bulmershe College in Berkshire as a youth, and became a part of the set-up at Reading at age nine. Though he spent some time at Southampton's youth team, he returned to Reading in 2007. He was awarded a club number in December 2009. He joined Rotherham United on a one month loan in March 2010, making his professional debut as a substitute on 16 March 2010 in a 2–1 defeat at Accrington Stanley, replacing Marcus Marshall a few minutes before full-time. His first start came in a 3–0 defeat at Aldershot on 5 April, after this game the loan spell was extended until the end of the season. However his twelfth and final match for the club was the most significant game of his season, as he replaced Kevin Ellison late into the play-off final defeat to Dagenham and Redbridge at Wembley on 30 May 2010. In August 2010 he was brought in by Port Vale's Micky Adams on a one month loan to cover for Lewis Haldane, who was recovering from illness.[8] This move came despite an offer of another loan spell from Rotherham United, and talk of Aldershot expecting the winger to join them on loan. After one substitute appearances he stated his aim to win a place in the starting eleven, however he finished his loan spell with only one start – in the Football League Trophy, and four substitute appearances to his name. Abdulai Bell-Baggie playing at Prenton Park in March 2013. At the end of November he joined Conference National high-flyers Crawley Town on loan,[11] but only made one FA Cup appearance. At the end of the 2010–11 season Bell-Baggie was released by Reading. In August 2011, Bell-Baggie signed a contract with Yeovil Town to keep him at the League One club until January 2012.In December 2011, Bell-Baggie was informed his short-term contract would not be extended and he was released without making a single appearance. He signed with Conference club Hayes & Yeading United on 6 January, and played in the club's 3–1 defeat at Kidderminster Harriers the next day. On 16 January his ten-day spell at the club came to an end when he was signed by Salisbury City manager Darrell Clarke. In July 2012, he joined Tranmere Rovers on trial. Manager Ronnie Moore, who was also manager during the winger's time at Rotherham, was impressed enough to offer Bell-Baggie a one-year contract, which was duly signed. Having featured regularly for the club since his arrival, he signed a new contract on 7 March 2013, keeping him at Tranmere until 2015. He scored two goals in 34 appearances across the 2012–13 campaign. Bell-Baggie played 15 games at the start of the 2013–14 season, but did not make an appearance for Rovers after November as the club suffered relegation out of League One. He was placed on the transfer list in January 2015 by new manager Micky Adams, who had previously coached him at Port Vale

Having now (almost) fully digested the latest loan signing I'm left with the thought . . . why on earth did we end up with him, and not LDV? Was LDV not interested in coming back here, or did his parent club put obstacles in the way of his return? Or perhaps we were never interested in him in the first place. Who knows eh? No disrespect intended by the way to our new signing, but a genuine question.
It may well be that Abdulai Bell-Baggie turns out as well as, or even better, than LDV.

I am just sick that we have players on bloody meaningless international duty when it's the worst possible time to lose them. 6 bloody games when we need all of our scoring players. Never easy being Rovers. Underwhelmed by this signing but live in hope he can do something. He has not set any team on fire. Hayes & Yeading ! Grump grump grump

So a player who hasn't played for 2 and a half months and has had more clubs than Tiger Woods at the age of 22 is deemed a good signing because he's made 50 league appearances but Chris Beardsley was a terrible one?

One year ago, the loan deadline closed and 'the gent' said we didn't need to add any new players to a squad full of kids and journeymen with no pace or desire to do well for the club. A year on and we didn't even need any new players today, but the 'conference mourinho' who is always pro-active in the market still wanted more and added the type of player who could have joined us last season if DC had been given the job 24 hours earlier. Its been a refreshing 12 months.

Don't think that extending LDV for a month and then not being able to play him helped. It meant if we signed him today he'd only be available for the same games Dawson is. Bell-Baggie can definitely play against Alfreton and, if needs be, the play offs.

Anyway well done for not answering my question at all.

You're wrong, LDV's loan was cancelled early and only the days up cancellation count (subject to a minimum of 28 days across any continuous loan period). LDV would have been available for the whole period.
I'm not actually sure of this, as far as I can see the Rules can be read either way, but since you're pretending to be sure of your facts, so will I.
