It's looking increasingly that goal difference could be the determining factor come the end of the season. As is usually the case it's as good as worth an extra point; and with just one automatic promotion place it's possible that one team will miss out on that place on GD.
At present the GDs of those involved in the race are:
Barnet 41 Rovers 23 Grimsby 29 Macclesfield 14 Forest Green 20 Woking 21 Eastleigh 19
We've no chance of catching up with Barnet's GD, but it's vital that we stay ahead of FGR and overtake Grimsby. FGR are probably too many points behind, and Macclesfield are way behind us on GD. So if Barnet fall away we need to be ahead of Grimsby on GD.
Can we do it? Easter firing on all cylinders could be the difference. No pressure lad! It brings into focus again of whether Harrison should start.....he scores goals! Dawson is a provider. Erratic yes, but he can put in a telling cross. Lines needs to run into the area to create chances or be brought down. We need to claw back that six goal GD between us and Grimsby.

I think abandoning the tactics that have got us this far would be Hollowayesque in its naivety.
If we to somehow make up six goals on Grimsby in six games, GD would be irrelevant because the points tally will have seen us finish above them anyway.

Ignore the goal difference and do all we can to go up on points.

Concentrating on GD now would be putting the cart before the horse somewhat tbh

I think we've been through this. If throwing caution to the wind was the guaranteed way to win matches, everybody would be doing it.

Even if we did are we really going to gain 6 goals in 6 games over Grimsby? Trying to win all 6 games must be our priorty.

six 1-0 wins will do me fine If we do that then Grimsby won't catch us and Barnet can't afford a single slip up

Not throwing caution to the wind but we need to setup away more like we do at home ie to win & not defend the point we have until the last 20 or so

Just win every game, all we need to do.

There is going for it gung ho and there is going for it sensibly. Playing three at the back from the start with the players we have is stupid (remember Mansfield).Picking a team that gets us our best players on the pitch and attacking can be good tactics in this league. If we sign LDV today do we replace Dawson with him or do we play him on the left? Who do we play with Lines in the middle? If we are playing with a flat back four with the full backs only attacking if needed do we have to have a defensive midfielder ie Lockyer in there? I personally would like to see Balanta given a chance with Easter but can't see it happening. If Brown plays as a left back then personally I would go with the two wingers to get a service in to Easter and whoever is up front with him. For all the criticism of him I would have Blissett on the bench as we may be getting bullied and need to change it. If LDV signs then I would go for
Puddy
Lockyer Parkes McCrystal or new CB Brown
Dawson Lines Monkhouse LDV
Easter Taylor
Subs Mildenhall Balanta Harrison Blissett New CB or McCrystal
Very tough on Leadbitter but if we are going more attacking then we need the tougher defender at full back. The trouble I can see with my line up is that without Lockyer in the midfield if things are going wrong then the bench is not going to allow DC to toughen up the midfield without going three at the back and for that reason I think DC will start with Dawson on the bench, play LDV on the right,Monkhouse on the left and Lines and Lockyer in the middle with Leadbitter at rignt back. In other words I cannot see DC changing from his normal cautious self and in all honesty with the results he has obtained why should he? The most interesting thing today is will we get the two new players in and is LDV one of them and if he turns us down is there a plan B for someone else?
