The hearing at court between the owners of CC and the Coventry City Council over debts and liabilities has now ended with the judge saying he will pass down judgement on June 30th.The general opinion is that the council has won its case and will now push for immediate payment or force through a motion for liquidation.Apparently there is also a very large tax bill that has been outstanding for some time so HMRC is also a very interested onlooker. The FL are being kept up to date with what is going on and will look into the club after the ruling

If Coventry were in the Conference they would have already been booted out. But the football league are more caring and sharing, however if Coventry cannot prove that they have the money to fulfil next seasons fixtures they could be demoted to the Conference who would not accept them because they are in debt and so they would end up in the Southern League North, a division below Frome. The conference dont suffer debtors and Kettering went down to the Southern and Rushden disappeared. I think the League will look after them but they might be getting fed up and decide that they have had enough. I believe Portsmouth got away with too much, but they were allowed to.

The problem the FL have is that they have set a precedent with being soft on clubs. If they suddenly hammer a club now, then that club may have a case for unfair discrimmination as other clubs have got away with the same or similar. The only way they could change is by drawing a line under the past, writing new regulations with clear penalties and making it clear to all concerned that from now on that is that. Can you see the FL doing that?

Can you see the FL doing that? Well I suppose they already have to a degree. When the s**theads went bust in 82, they just went bust. No points penalty Now there's a 10 point penalty isn't there? I don't follow it that closely but I thought as soon as a club went into administration it was automatic 10 points gone. So they've rewritten the rules between 82 and ? (a few seasons back). So why not rewrite them again?

City didnt go into administration they went into liquidation and that loophole has now been closed hence the number of debt ridden clubs using the administration gambit to keep their league status
