Maybe we are being 'outdone' by some home support on our travels this season, because simply 'Bristol Rovers' are in town. Not to say that I personally think we are a huge, better than anyone else kind of club, but opposition fans sure seem to think so (browsing forums etc...) Having been away a lot this season, some of them don't half make a massive effort! No ones telling me, that Halifax Town had all those young un's jumping up and down for half hour & setting off flare's/fireworks in the ground with all those chants for Southport, Kidderminster or Eastleigh at home! I'd turn my back on away games if we had belters shooting fireworks at the roof of a stand. Grade A tossers. Aye, there is no doubt we could be perhaps a bit louder/more varied with the songs home and away. But I hope drums/flares/fireworks or such like never make an appearance in any of our crowds. The fools in the home end on Saturday, even tried unravelling a huge banner about ten minutes in, but then realised they didn't have enough people to get it out on full show! Just, awful.

Perhaps the lack of singing/chanting etc is due to pressure, both on and off the pitch. With the best will in the world the team don't go out and take the game by the scruff of the neck. Instead they seem to play a cagey sort of game (and I'm not complaining about that), but that does have the effect of not encouraging the travelling fans, instead it has the effect of making them nervous and apprehensive. Classic chicken and egg scenario.
As for drums . . . ahhhhh! The worst example that I can think of was a local derby between Wycombe and Luton, and a Luton drummer banged his infernal bass drum for what seemed like days. I was glad when the game finished, and I wasn't the only one neither.

If you think the fans away are quieter this season, then you don't away very often. Last season, we had less away support and were constantly losing. So try again.
The biggest problem is that many grounds are open to the elements which means any sound disappears into the wild blue yonder,
And before you ask, I've been to every game. As for drums, you can stick em where the sun don't shine.

I thought the atmosphere on Saturday was pretty good.....
Old fashioned stand helped to create a lot of noise with corrugated roof. I didn't see a problem in that area at all really.

we get out sung away even when we have outnumbered the home crowd because most clubs have drummers and a group of lively enthusiastic youngsters who sing if their winning or losing, where as most of our following are over 45 and if you start singing no one joins in and you end up looking like an idiot and any over enthusiastic behaviour is frowned upon and for this reason all the charactors that started the chants have either been banned or no longer attend,we also dont have many songs that we sing so end up repeating them over and over again whilst other clubs have more of a variety of chants, how our support gets portrayed as a rowdy bunch i will never know as most like quoted in a previous post just sit and politely clap and sad as it to say we mostly only sing when were winning as we expect to win and when we dont there is just shocked silence. The decline in our vocal support has been happening since our relegation from league one and has coincided with our poor form on the pitch.i was hoping it might have returned what with us being near the top of the league but alas it hasnt. The one thing were great at though is sighing and tutting and groaning after every mistake..feel free to rip into me but these are the facts. Yes the majority of our fans are middle aged and above because the kids from Bristol are glory hunters and support C*ty (and they have been brainwashed). I'm one of the few kids to support Rovers, I am 14. I have to put up with the deluded C*ty fans at school D: Also, sitting in the South Stand is so terrible, it is silent all game. When we score a late goal a few of the people join in with Goodnight Irene but that's all.

Hated every minute of it! Get yourself a spot on one of the terraces ASAP!

Irene is sang far too quicky I agree. Although we seem to be singing the proper full version more this season which is pleasing. The "we're Rovers supporters" version has always irked me for some reason.

Try and ignore the moaning old gits that stand there pretending they are better than the players on the pitch and the manager in the dugout ! There are huge numbers of young people in the Blackthorn End though, I'm well impressed with that.

Halifax was quality. Toilets reminiscent of The Vetch Field dark holes. Turnstiles so ancient they could appear on the Antiques Roadshow. Operator said to me "sorry you have to push hard they are stiff don't get used much". Support was anxious, nervous even before we were 2 down. Not much to cheer until we scored!

the bottom line is that it's been a pretty miserable experience being a gashead for the last 4 seasons, and also most of the last 15 seasons!
this season may have seen some ok results and certainly a very impressive unbeaten run but how many games have really been exciting? There certainly haven't been any comfortable, non-stressful games, except maybe Nuneaton (our ONLY 2 goal win). Thin open terraces don't help.
It's hard for even the best fans to create an atmosphere in those situations.
as someone else said I think the pressure on us to have a good away record has caused a lot of tension.
