How does Ollie clarke warrant a start when in 5 minutes he manages on 3 occasions to pass a straightforward ball to the opposition? Not good enough to even be in the squad with the players we now have at our disposal. As somebody said you have to play with wingers on bad pitches therefore Dawson and Balanta for me. As regards Blissett because of the way our defenders pass a ball forward you have to have a big man up front and if not Blissett then IMO you should be playing Monkhouse up top. (He was very good at Lincoln in that position)

Bad pitch and they play three centre-backs so width will be key for us IMO. Mildenhall may have dropped a howler on Saturday but let's not forget who also made a few very good seasons and he's had a solid season so I wouldn't just drop him on the basis of one defeat. Halifax are physical so I can see Blissett potentially started for that reason but not Easter given he's only just returned to training. As for Lines, bear in mind he's not played a full ninety minutes for nearly six weeks so it wouldn't be a total shock to me if he doesn't start. That said, this would be my team, fitness permitting;
Mildenhall Leadbitter Parkes Macca Brown Dawson Lines Manse Monkhouse Balanta Taylor
Puddy Trotman Lockyer Harrison Easter

I think Clarke will be a fool and not even start Lines... He has a thing about Lockyer. As an employer myself, I have little time for those that abuse their position for sexual gratification

It appears to me you are choosing players because of the opposition, not based on belief in what our players can achieve... As for Clarke Its hard to pass forward when there is nobody there, other than a big static forward who is stood alone.

I think that the manager may spend quite some time pondering who will play in goal on Saturday. It's a tough one to call, but it will get easier after that one has been decided I'm quite certain. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he decided that it was time for a change, but then again . . . I suppose on the positive side, at least we have two goalies worthy of a place in the team. It wasn't all that long ago that we seemed to be permanently struggling in that department. I don't think he will to be honest with you - Puddy is on pay as you play contract so we'll be playing the cheaper option: Mildehall. Get rid of useless Mansell out of midfield please and I'll have a Lines and a Clarke in the middle. Dawson and Gosling get a wing each. Harrison and Balanta up front. Usual back four of Leads, McCrysts, Parkeses, Browns. Cheers then. Cheers.

Mansell is playing like a player who desperately doesn't want to get booked and subsequently banned for two matches. He was outstanding at Grimsby a few weeks ago and if he can rediscover that sort of form you cannot justify dropping him in my opinion, especially for someone like Ollie Clarke who doesn't keep the ball or defend as well as Manse does. I like Puddy in goal, but there's no way Mildy will get dropped unless he is injured.
--------------------- Mildenhall ---------------------
Leadbitter ------- Parkes ------- McChrystal ------- Brown
Dawson --------- Lines -------- Mansell ------- Monkhouse
---------------- Taylor ----------- Easter --------------
I fancy Easter to be fit to play at Halifax and whilst I would be more than happy to see Balanta start, I don't think DC will drop Monkhouse because he wins so many headers from goal kicks and keeps the ball really well.

only changes I would make drop LEADBITTER to bench reinstate LOCKYER at right back and install LINES into central midfield BLISSETT, BALANTA, LEADBITTER, PUDDY & EASTER on the bench

Bit narrow for playing on a muddy pitch? I was always taught that if the pitch is bad, get it wide What? Lockyer and Brown overlapping with cover from Clark and Mansell? Quick ball outlet with Dawson and Taylor....what more do you want? Or, Halifax play their wingers high, forcing our full backs on the defensive. Taylor and Dawson work the channels, but this leaves only one player in the middle to aim crosses at. Lines pushes forward to help out leaving us in a formation of... 4-4-2. With our top scorer out on the wing.
Or maybe it works. Every formation has its problems to work out.

Lockyer overlapping? This is a myth and Leadbitter is much better at doing this.Defensively Lockyer is just ahead IMO but there isn't much in it as Leadbitter has improved and deserves his place on merit Brown overlapping? A tactic that has now been over employed and resulted in we now have a player (Monkhouse) who does nothing on the ball other than tries to release Brown. It is predictable and the Eastleigh Manager obviously sussed this out and probably also that Brown has a 1-5 ratio of good crosses. Cover from Clarke and Mansell? Mansell is more than capable of doing the defensive covering work but needs somebopdy to give the ball to and bring it out. He does not need somebody doing the same job as him who can't pass a ball accurately to save his life.Would like Clarke to prove me wrong but I very much see a player who does very little other than the odd worldly goal. I do not agree with this "playing a team depending on the opposition- I believe in taking YOUR game to the opposition however when you have a back four who continually hoof the ball with the central midfielders pretty much doing the same then you have to have a big player up front. It has been proved on a number of occasions that pace of smaller players does not work when the team continually hoof the ball without any real passing ability. Just an opinion and I respect your opinion Oldie , just disagree which is the joy of football in that different people look for different things from both individuals and the team. We all want RESULTS at the end of the day and it has to be said that over most of this season DC has been obtaining these whatever selection, formation or tactics he has employed. I very much hope this will continue and that the bubble has not burst. Reaction to defeats this season has been good so there is no reason why the bubble has burst.

What I like about this thread, it shows we have a decent squad and the permutations are varied but a lot of them look good, begins to show that the job of picking the right team balance is not straightforward and not many managers get it right 100% of the time. Go with your research but can outthink yourself. Probably easier to pick the players in form. Easter and Lines coming in at this level, now that is just excellent.

Can't see how anyone can put blisset in for Taylor, the bloke cannot play football and he can't head the ball in the direction he wants Had a mate with me last Saturday that went for the first time and he couldn't believe we paid money for him,you can make excuses for him and say he's not fit but how long does it take to get fit?? Nothing against the bloke and hope he improves but think he will never be a league 2 player and struggles in this league Agree absolutely. I know he tries his hardest, can`t knock him for that, but talent wise.. forget it. His ball control is as bad as I`ve seen. Ever. If all the air was removed from the ball, I doubt if he could keep it anywhere near him. We need better if we want to go up.

Not sure how anyone can drop Leadbitter, but wouldn’t be surprised if Lockyer reverted to RB as DC has done that in the past, but Leadbitter has had a run and found some form and offers us some pace going forward and back. I would mess with the team as little as possible
Mildenhall
Leadbitter McChrystal Parkes Brown
Dawson Mansell Lines Monkhouse
Taylor Harrison/Blissett
Don’t think Easter will be fit enough to start
The other option Lines gives us is to play Mansell/Lockyer/Monkhouse as a 3 and give Lines Licence behind a front two of Taylore and Blissett/Harrison/Easter whomever your choice
