Thanks for posting this, watching that I actually felt quite sad. Memories of a bygone era.

A lot of these look like the Mem does now.
I'm so glad we're moving to a new stadium. Like everyone keeps saying get a new ground and our financial troubles will be over! I mean look at Darlington and Scarborough ... no wonder they don't play in their old places any more - total dumps!!!

Darlington fans never wanted to leave Feethams and had no reason to. They have a long term ambition to move the reconstituted club back there at some point.

It was always my intention to visit Belle Vue before it was shut down, to see where Geoff Bradford's injury occurred.
Sadly I never made it, and it is a real regret.

A slightly odd type of pilgrimage! I've been fortunate enough to visit the majority of Football League grounds, most of them before they were moved to new venues . . . thankfully. Unfortunately Belle Vue slipped through my net, I had planned to go several times but family commitments always seemed to come up, and as I have said I sadly never made it. I particularly enjoyed travelling to unfashionable grounds like Chesterfield and Carlisle for example, I would just peruse the fixture list, pack the car and go.

I do something similar now but I don't think it's the same as it used to be because new grounds don't have as much unique character. I've been to Shrewsbury and Chesterfield and they were basically exactly the same ground which is a shame and I think shows a bit of a lack of imagination. I know it's all to do with maximising build costs etc but in the long run I think people pay for having a unique experience not an identikit one. In the US they went that way in the 70's - all the big cities built out of town municipal stadiums that could accommodate NFL and Baseball together in the middle of massive carpark facilities. They were all basically built to the same spec and were known as 'cookie cutters' as a result. They were relatively successful at first but then fans stopped going because it was a hassle getting in and out and there was nothing unique about the experience. So in the 90s/early 2000s they were basically all replaced by a new era of original stadiums that were built in downtown areas and have distinctive features. It was a little bit forced and false but it had a massive impact on attendances. I think we may have failed to learn that lesson in this country. What I was getting at though was that it seems a slightly strange desire to go somewhere because a sporting hero suffered a serious injury there! I get it but written down it just sounds a bit odd!

Both Edgware Town and Hendon's ground were sold by Barnet Council. If they had been rugby grounds they would have been improved!! Even Barnet have left Barnet

The terraces at Somerton Park, Newport were mostly made from railway sleepers with concrete thrown in to keep them together.
