Thats got your attention! having paid for flights and digs for newcastle a few of the south bristol old executive firm (I use the word firm in the loosest possible way) thought it may be an idea to make the 40 min train journey to wave the flag in the english out post of Berwick who entertain Albion Rovers on the day should our game v gateshead be cancelled. it sounds nuts but could be a bit of fun.

People will be surprised by the makeup of support at Berwick. Some Scots, some English. They stock three scarves in the club shop, one with the St Georges Cross on the end, one with the saltire & one with both.
I'll do some research later and have a look at potential games for those booked up, probably best to avoid Berwick as you don't want to be dragged into a war with Russia.

I would highly recommend a trip to, what has always been my second team, Berwick, at any time. I used to go up 3 or 4 times a year to watch "The Dream Team" or "Wee Rangers". Great little club, very welcoming proper fans and a nice town as well.
A few points. It is a great pub crawl from the Station to the ground, a very long walk right through town, but loads of pubs and food outlets on the way. Good clubhouse at the ground, always used to have a Rovers penant and/or scarf behind the bar when I used to go up, (I live abroad now so haven't been for quite a few years). 1st trip we were going to watch the game and drive south for a few hours after the match, but ended up staying in Berwick for 3 days. You only watch from the sides of the ground due to the speedway track, seats one side, The Ducket terrace the other. This is segregrated for away fans, until half time when they open the gate and you all have a cuppa together, then when the teams come out again the away fans go back behind the fence, then at full time you all walk out together. It is ALWAYS freezing, even for the 1st round of the League cup in July!
Let me know if you do want a bit of info' I will try to remember pub names or B&B's, although they may have changed.
Up the Wee 'Gers

It's a lovely part of the country, that's for sure. I once took the coastal road from Edinburgh south towards Newcastle, and the scenery was stunning. I considered calling into Berwick but I didn't, and have regretted it ever since.
My only beef with the town is that during the recent Scottish Independence Referendum campaign, many of the residents of Berwick indicated that they would like to join together with an independent Scotland, so effectively taking Berwick out of England. Why would an Englishman want to become a Scot, even if it was for obvious reasons . . . the NHS as I remember it.

One assumes there were Scots living in Berwick and qualified to vote in the referendum under the residential condition (even Andy Murray wasn't able to vote). Would Berwick itself have had a say in the referendum as it's not in Scotland ?

I met a group of Berwick supporters in Latvia once and ended up drinking with them for a few days. Top bunch of lads.

Spent a lot of time in Berwick, lovely town
I'd often go to the ground around 1 o'clock for a few beers, watch the game and then stick around for the speedway. Good times

It is tempting o go to this one, however definitely Albion Rovers for me.
I saw them lose to Sunnyside in the cup a few years ago, and have had a soft spot for them ever since. That game also goes down as the first time I saw a professional match in progress while someone was working on a Mark 5 Cortina at the side of the pitch!
