Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke will attempt to increase his central midfield options by securing a deal for Southend United midfielder Conor Clifford ahead of the transfer deadline tomorrow.
Clarke is already without knee-injury victim Ollie Clarke for at least a fortnight and has been dealt a further blow after a scan late last week revealed that Stuart Sinclair has suffered a hairline fracture in his foot and will be out of action for up to a month.
Advertisement As a result, Clarke has been feverishly working on a deal to bolster his squad and will try and complete the signing of out-of-favour Roots Hall midfielder Clifford before the January transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday night.
The midfielder was transfer-listed by Southend United boss Phil Brown earlier this month and is available on a free, but it is believed that Clarke is looking to do a loan deal for the former Chelsea trainee and 12-capped Republic of Ireland Under21 international.
Clifford has scored two goals in 13 appearances for Southend this season, but has not featured in the first-team since a 2-1 defeat at home to Tranmere Rovers on November 22.

If he is right for the Club then sign him till the end of the season - if he is just going to warm the bench and not play - sign me 'cause I can do that!!!!

We were looking to take him as a loan, he obviously wants a contract. If the loan was only a month or so, then where would that leave him, apart from trying to get back in the first XI or a chance of a deal later today?

James McNamara tweeted that Clifford turned down the move. Be careful with McNamara. I told him, privately at the time, about Brunty's Dad punting his sons name around other clubs but he decided to not just disbelieve it but call it out as not true. Not the brightest spark.

Not the brightest spark. And how did you know that KP? Chatting with Brunty's dad. He was not being secretive or never said to keep it quiet. He also said that he felt his upbringing was going against him. Nice guy.
