Is the comment I heard more times than I care to remember. Well it isn't really. If both teams employed the same style of play then yes it is but we use our centre midfield to try and switch play and for me especially Lockyer and Mansell dealt with the conditions very well.
Some stand out thoughts on today.
Goalkeeper
This was a gaff by Clarke today, Mildy is our no 1 and by all accounts (I didnt go a lot last season) a great shot stopper. However your away to Dartford on a terrible pitch. You would like to think we wont withstand too much pressure but GK distribution is key. Puddy can kick better. He should of kept his place. I dont blame Mildy for the first as much as the free kick. The ball was hit not over the wall but to his side. Maybe people behind the goal can confirm.]
Adam Dawson
I dont get the fans obsession that a new player we haven't seen before is our saviour. He is known as a tricky winger. A winger I guess would like to dribble and on that pitch there is not a chance he is going to be at his best. He set up the goal well but also lost the ball a few times. My original and main point is the goading of DC for not bringing on a player we haven't even seen??
Easter
Gutted for him, hope it isn't serious. One of the comments behind me was "Why did we sign him, clearly injured before he came to go off that early." I do cringe at times.
Darrell Clarke
Made some good tactical switches. We started off 4-3-3 and out the blocks firing. The injury to Easter seemed to kill our momentum. He went 4-4-2 and we regained control. The switch to 3-5-2 again kicked us on for the goal before their free kick killed us a bit.
Fans
I know some will say its down to the players to get us going etc but why do we have to wait until we score to roar out Goodnight Irene. Why can't us as fans do that with 20 mins to go to spur the players on. I know there will be the years of hurt thrown at me etc. Thats past tense. Not singing today does not affect this.
Overall
The pitch was dire. We coped pretty well, bar two set piece goals we restricted them to very little. We didn't create loads more but there was a great chance for Monkhouse.
