I love all this old footage. Not just the film but the backing music and the announcer too. Great that British Pathé newsreel is now available on youtube.
I'd seen pictures of the Rovers training camp at W-S-M in 1954, but not this piece of film. Looks like Swansea haven't got the mower in yet! Rovers appear at 1.48 mins.

Rovers make an appearance in the 1959 film "Serious Charge" starring Anthony Quayle. It's newsreel footage of the FA Cup quarterfinal against Fulham.

Few other names appear in that film then, including Cliff Richard's debut on screen: www.imdb.com/title/tt0053269/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1I guess that Fulham game must have been this one:

Maybe Swansea had abandoned the idea of a mower and were going to borrow Angus the Kilmarnock mascot lamb to keep the grass down instead Loved the Rovers' 'team-building' effort, with everyone standing around in their quarters peeling spuds together!

Should'nt Rovers GK have done better with the first, mind you,the balls were heavier in those days of course.

Those tents and the spud peeling reminded me of my old Avon Boys Brigade camps to places like Swanage & Weymouth. Here's more footage of the Rovers pre-season camp to W-S-M. This one contains out-takes, so no sound. I hope DC gets to see this; the training exercises might look a little odd, but you never heard of ACL injuries in those days!

I know that this clip has been posted a few times on the old forum but it is still one of my favourite clips because it shows an enthusiasm from everyone concerned. The teams and the fans both seemed to really enjoy the game, and the fact that we won, and beat the other mob on the way, is a real bonus. And if you listen to the commentary, you'll hear a lot of names mentioned that were heroes to boys like me . . . at that time, of course. www.britishpathe.com/video/battle-of-bristol-city-v-rovers/query/petherbridgeHappy days.

Interestingly, Don Revie played against us in that Hull game.
