He's been offered a three year deal so if he comes it will be for the wrong reason. Why else would a player drop out of the football league. Interesting. I had hoped we'd stop handing out long-term contracts; it is difficult for any club in the lower leagues to justify offering a 3 year deal to a player, especially one on large wages. Having said that, he should be in his prime for the next few years and is clearly a proven goalscorer in this division and the one above. Thinking about it, I assume it would be a 2 and a half year deal? If he joined us on loan, for example, until the end of this season and got us promoted, the club would have to offer at least a 2 year deal to get him to consider staying permanently. Perhaps the only way we can get him to drop to this level is to offer him the same length of time beginning on a permanent contract from now.

At present, AFC are shelling out £1250 a week as their contribution to his wages, how much higher can they afford to go?? Where does it mention 3 year deal in the article??

They are averaging 4000 home gates, against our 6000 average, potentially higher if we keep going as we are at present. That would suggest we could probably out bid Wimbledon and if I was Tubbs and intended seeing out my contract, rather than use his new club as a stepping stone, Rovers could well offer better prospects. Although I'm not sure where that leaves Taylor who's been impressive lately?
If nothing else it now makes Monday's game worthwhile watching!

I bet Matt Tubbs is itching to return to playing the likes of Nuneaton and Woking, sign him up!

I hope he has not offered that type of contract even though it would be a great signing. DC said that Tubbs wants to come to us and Bournemouth are happy to let him come to us. In fact we offered Bournemouth more money that what Wimbledon offered but they were not prepared to allow him to come to the Conference at that time.
Having said that, Easter was also said to be "gagging" to join us but for one reason or another it all fell through.
We will know shortly if he is to join us.

DC doesn't handle all of the transfer deals though does he, Balanta for instance.

If we take on loan until the summer then give him a 2 year contract then we won't actually be giving him a 3 year contract? At the end of the day it's who offers Bournemouth the most money for the reminder of his contract who will probably sign Tubbs, what he wants to do in the summer may well be beyond his control?

That is so way off the mark. Tubbs will go where he wants to go. Like any footballer nowadays their clubs don't have much clout with what finally happens. Unless they want to pay said players off. And then it is usually player/agent generated.

How old is Tubbs ?
Maybe the only way to get a player of his ability is to offer three years, what else other than that security plus a good salary tempts a player on his game to step down ? Not saying that is the preferred option, but I don't see any other candidates who fit the bill at the moment.
Whatever happens, we are certainly one of the better sides in the conference if not the best side, DC has put together a solid foundation, the fans have backed the club in numbers, its now up to the board to support DC and push on from here. Heres hoping !

If I was Chairman...........I would be brave now and pay off Mr D C and get Gary Johnson in next week. Give him the funds to bring in at least 4 players and we would be as quaranteed as we ever could be of getting promotion. Also we would have a good team for div 2 next year. Keep DC and we will keep struggling with players who simply are not good enough and with a manager who simply is unable to bring in the quality players we need. Even if we did somehow get up with DC this squad is nowhere near good enough to do anything other than struggle in league 2. Sorry rose tinters if the truth hurts. UTG. Sack the future to employ the past? Well it would not be the first time we have done that. Think you are confusing truth with perception .. This is what you perceive so in your eyes it must be the truth. Your perception does not hurt at all mate...your stint as chairman might though!!!

Heres hoping ! But didn't we say the same when we signed Kenneth & JJOT on lengthy deals? Why don't we offer Tubbs a performance related contract, matching what ever Wimbledon have offered, plus £50K extra if he scores 10 goals or assists and helps us get promoted? As far as Tubbs being the only obvious striker available, do any of us actually know who is available or not?

I hear the same talk that others have discussed on social media and the forums... Tubbs deal is done and will be announced Tues .. lian till end of season paying about 5% more of his wage than Wimbledon do... tgeres is also a 2 yr contact agreed fir next season which is dependent on us being promoted. ... I suppose we will find out in the neek week how true this all is.... he could earn more at pompey but a good old fashioned bit if who u know not how much youve got by DC is how this has come about ... Mates rates
my only worry is that this tubbs deal is linked to this MSP lot afterall they are both based around Bournemouth ..(conspiracy theory hat fully on!!)

Good theory regarding MSP, but if we sign players like Tubbs is that a bad thing? Let's hope he doesn't have a blinder or get injured tomorrow!

Even with Tubbs, catching Barnet looks unlikely. So he will be an asset in the playoffs. The commitment of the club if he scores goals will put 500 on the gate. At a guess that will fund £3,000 a week to the end of the season.

Yeah, I can't help feeling if it's all about catching Barnet, we will fail, and we will go into the play-offs having failed, and like most teams that seem to go into the playoffs thinking about failing to go up automatically we will lose to a team that just scraped in and are delighted to be there. /worst case scenario

If that theory was correct we would be a top half Football League 1 club not a non league club. Unless we are all invited on to the pitch to kick the ball into the net. ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) ?
