A small synopsis of the article: "Diana Scrafton, a director of TRASHorfield, a group fighting to preserve the ground, said: “While the nation watches the emotion-packed advert, the days are numbered for Bristol’s largest war memorial.”
She added: “This inspiring and poignant sports-ground tribute to 300 soldier-sportsmen who played the ‘Greater Game’ is to be demolished by Sainsbury’s and replaced by a giant superstore
Sainsbury’s said: “We absolutely refute we are operating double standards. We recognise that the site has historical importance, which is why our plans preserve the memorial stone and create a public square dedicated to the memory of former Bristol rugby players.”

Never let it be said that national broadsheet journalists are lazy or don't bother doing much research, preferring to be spoonfed by press releases from those who want to lead them on

Theres an article in the Mail today, good god, old Carstairs, he just can't help himself. Why can't he and his cohorts just realise that the Mem is now a tired old relic, it is not something the war deads families can be proud of and definitely not a fitting tribute to the fallen. I find it quite amazing how these 'do gooder' types always foward small bits of information trying to decry the vested parties when in truth they are only playing the 'smoke and mirrors' game to achieve their personal aims. Don't they realise that plans are in place to replace the 'Memorial Gates', to give them a more fitting position, don't they report on the fantastic memorial ceremony before the Kidderminster game, do they not see the positives in anything? Also, does/has Carstairs and his like attend/ed the Memorial Gates for the Rememberance ceremonies past and present? I think we all know the answers to these questions.

Remembrance is a personal thing and I don't like grandstanding over it or telling other people how they should do it. It is plain to me however that this is being used by these people as nothing more than a tool in their desperate little campaign against Sainsbury's and not out of any genuine concern for the maintenance of a memorial on the site. They have no shame whatsoever.

Shame we/Sainsburys didn't anticipate this and get there first. Headline 'Bristol Rovers and Sainsburys plan to build memorial garden', would have been rather better.

Worth upvoting the anti-TRASH comments and redressing the balance of the article

Does Carstairs honestly think that people interested/ relatives etc come to the Memorial Ground and think " What a fantastic memorial this stadium is?"I can understand people coming to the Memorial gates to remember their loved ones however Carstairs has other motives and it certainly is not the remembrance to those who gave their lives. Roll on this getting sorted one way or the other and then everybody can forget Carstairs as that is exactly what he is in every respect- forgettable and he knows it.

Scrafton used the words 'poignant memorial' about 2 Mecano sets, a stand that gives people vertigo and a roof that doesn't protect, a cricket stand and a pitch which floods and foxes like s**ting on.Oh and a tent which used to appear at the Golf. Oh and the public access to the Ground has been locked 24/7 since about 1936 except for 3 hours on average once a week every year. ANd then people have to pay to enjoy the poignant surroundings. You really couldnt make this stuff up, but somehow Scrafton and Carstairs have......................

More importantly have we spoken to Sainsbury's yet and told them what we expect as per Toni Watola? what have Sainsbury's said? The silence is worrying although not unexpected, didn't TW say they'd be contacting Sainsbury's within 48 hours (if it was me I'd be contacting them that afternoon!) by my reckoning that would be on Friday, surely they've had time to respond by now? Wasn't there any dialogue before last week asking Sainsbury's what there intentions were if they got PP?
