I'd bet there are lads much better than him at that level who are younger too. Weird how lads ''destined'' so say for a long career with us end up at the same level as lads who at the same age as when the likes of Powell for example joined our academy were playing leagues below. There is a lot to be said for ''late bloomers''. I mean how many of our under 18 squad will end up playing in a league higher than the Western should that not get a pro contract. Not too many I would've thought. Quite a few young lads in that league playing very well. Another example would of course be shaq hunter now at Mangotsfield. Remember him being linked with man city a few years back. Hope the same doesn't happen to this Ellington lad.

It seems the best way to become a professional footballer is join another club! Only Harrison has come through our youth set up recently and you sense the club would sooner he go rather than stay. It's a real mystery why the club can't turn promising youngsters into 1st team players.

Lockyer joined us from Cardiff's youth set up. I'll give you Clarke but even he's struggling to hold down a first team place even at non league level.

Santos was playing before leaving. Need more players to come through though, players are leaving at a young age now.

There tends to be more transfers these days, but if we are getting one youth player per season come through then that's reasonable imo

Saw Powell come on as a sub for Frome against Larkhall, snide remarks aside he played well and scored a cracking goal. I think going to the Southern League for a little bit will do his career the world of good. Hopefully he can sort himself out and not waste his talent.

Lamar Powell is a talented footballer
But having talent can only get you so far
There are other aspects you need like application, fitness, attitude etc
That's why a lot of youngsters think they have made it just because scouts come and watch them
There's hundreds if not thousands of promising young kids who end up like Powell
What's Shaquille Hunter up to these days? There's another one
