A little while ago both Higgs and dc were contemplating 2 or3 more faces coming in. Recent comments seem to have downgraded that. but rovers are good at lowering expectations. I won't be holding my breath today!

We have had 2 players come in. Martin and Cunnington.
I would expect one more today if at all.

Deadline day is for fee paying permanent deals, we aren't in that market and never have been. We've got until the loan deadline in November so nothing to see today, although outgoings could be possible if someone came in with late bids.

DC has made it pretty clear that he's only looking to sign players who can show a genuine commitment to the club and who aren't here simply for a pay cheque. That obviously rules out a lot of players and so it wouldn't surprise me if nothing eventuated in the very short term. Barring an injury disaster in our current squad I'm pretty happy with that approach personally. Maybe I've got low expectations (okay, I definitely have low expectations!) but if he can build a squad of committed players to get near or into the play-offs this year and then kick on with a full squad playing good quality, coherent football next year then so be it.

DC: "I have put my name in the hat for a couple of players who fit the bill."

Feels like he is going about things the right way ... always nice to see an exciting new face but I trust DCs judgement.

The Post understands that Newport County forward Christian Jolley was still on Clarke's radar towards the end of last week, while Derby County youngster Shaquille McDonald is another player who had also been looked at.

Jolley is the only name to surface,a winger come striker. So thatsCunnington,White,Taylor,Brunt,Harrison and Jolley for 2 places,2 on the bench and 2 in the stands.Or it could be as a winger thats Gosling,Martin,Harrison plus Brown and Leadbiter if he plays wing backs as well as Jolley. In the light of Saturdays performance we badly need a central midfielder who can pass the ball to one of his own players and create openings

They would play on the right, Martin would be on the left and then Cunnington and Taylor/White will be up top. That would, in my opinion, be a feared attacking quarter at this level. It would free Monkhouse up to play in a more advanced central position and I think he, and Gosling upon his return from international duty, will be better than Clarke in that position. I wouldn't say no to a creative playmaker but I don't actually think Mansell or Clarke have been too bad in recent games - in fact I've been very impressed with Mansell since he has taken over the captain's armband from the injured MMc. It will be interesting to see if anything develops. Usually we 'want' someone but never pull it off on deadline day so it would be nice if that could change today.

They wont go down that road today,Wes,maybe in January. As a thought if we did the unthinkable and got promoted how many of this squad would be here next season? For my money Mildenhall,Brown,Parkes,Lockyer,Harrison cant see any of the rest making it and think Brunt may go today

Padstow, Think you are not really being very complimentary on the players we have here as IMO any of the players we have could go on to play League 2 next season without much problem and if we did get promotion then over this season they would have proved themselves worthy of the chance. Lets put it this way if they are not good enough for league 2 then we will be nowhere near getting promoted this year. How many games have you seen these players play? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) At the very most 6-hardly time to judge them.

When asked to run the rule over a player i only get to see him a couple of times before a decision is made on whether to take the interest any further. You usually get a good idea of a player after a couple of games

On that basis Jason Roberts would have been binned long before he started scoring for us!!!

Excellent point Gary Johnson put together a good squad of players in the Conference which he carried into the league and then took a fair number of them to City where they did very well for him. If the players are good enough and you get a good squad that stay together -success can follow.
