All joking aside Bas the excessive use of “ hope, hoping and hopefully” in posts on both Rovers forums really irritates me. I’m all for faith, hope, charity and love in the biblical sense but you can’t run a business purely on hope yet that’s what Rovers seem to do and most fans encourage them. Hussain is hoping the new recruitment team will be able to use his “ reasonable” budget to assemble a good team to compete in the top ten of League 1 but most fans, including yourself, fear the worst and that’s because in their hearts they know that hope is not enough. They also know that having all your balls up in the air at once with the training ground, Mem development, team rebuilding and business restructuring is not a good idea and is very likely to fail miserably. I just wish ( hope ?) Gasheads would have the courage to speak up and encourage Hussain to think again before it all goes wrong. Hussain has already stated this week that he takes no notice of what fans say on the forums. Oh well, I guess we’ll just have to sit back and enjoy the ride as it all goes wrong again

Reasonable budget my arse, we’ll be recruiting anything that Taylor considers able to just about survive in the EFL let alone this league. The big indicator here is the collapse of the gates from sellouts to approaching the levels we saw before B*****. These ‘money men’ talk about crowds of 17000 and yet the latest addition to the temporary facilities is now largely empty. B***** was sacked and Taylor recruited on the basis that the latter would extract the minimum expected from this season’s investment in the playing squad, which has not only seen abject failure but the vast majority of them alienated and subjected to an undermining the tunnellers escaping from Stalag 14 would have been proud of. The club stands on a precipice whereby Taylor must succeed in a situation he won’t be able to blame anyone else next season if his piss poor performance continues. I could be wrong Taylor could recruit a squad that achieves all of the snowballs chance in hell of reaching fruition and Rovers will still be in business retaining all the current assets the current owners have the ability to liquidate.

Average home gates down 717 on previous season. The restrictions early season as no south stand reflects this.

From Managers post match interview with Wigan "Whether we’re switching off or not being quite right in terms of staying engaged in our jobs for long enough. That’s probably happened too often this season. I think we’ve conceded the second-most goals in the league which is a damning statement but in terms of the other aspect we need to create and score more." In other words a recurring theme our players are paid to do their jobs which they have not done consistently as Brown acknowledged in his interview. Nothing a manager can do once they are on the pitch and not robust or fit enough to compete at this level.

Match Stats: Wigan 2 BRFC 0 - Possession 56% - 44% - Shots 18-4 - On Target 9-0 - Corners 7-4 - Referee Marc Edwards - Attendance 14,077 (776 away)i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9250801.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200/0_JS331577154.jpgElkan Baggott heads over the bar for Bristol Rovers against Wigan AthleticWigan secured victory against fellow mid-table side Bristol Rovers at the DW Stadium, thanks to a goal in either half from Josh Magennis and Jonny Smith to finish the League One campaign on a high. Baba Adeeko saw a powerful early shot tipped round the post by Rovers goalkeeper Jed Ward before Magennis headed wide from a Smith cross. Ward made a fine save to keep out Thelo Aasgaard's header off a Charlie Hughes cross while ex-Wigan man Scott Sinclair had a shot deflected wide at the other end. But that was about as good as it got for Rovers, who fell behind on the half-hour as Magennis steered home Luke Chambers' cross. Smith doubled the lead himself three minutes after the restart when he cut in off the right-hand side and fired into the opposite corner of the net. Magennis thought he had added a third when he side-footed home from another Chambers cross, only to turn and see the offside flag up. Aasgaard sent a 25-yard shot flying inches over the top before substitute Martial Godo fired past Ward only for James Wilson to somehow get back and clear the ball off the line. Bristol Rovers player ratings vs Wigan: Jed Ward saves stand out in flat season finale..By Daniel Hargraves.i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9250932.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_JS331574236.jpgJed Ward - 7 (above) The goalkeeper had a good game and conceded twice while losing. That emphasises the nature of the game. Ward was called into three excellent stops in the first half before eventually being beaten by Josh Magennis. Having not seen a replay of the second goal at the time of writing, it's impossible to suggest that the 20-year-old could have done better with Jonny Smith's long-range strike. Probably the only Rovers player who can be relatively pleased with his own personal display. Luca Hoole (off for James Connolly 67') - 5 The right-back has been much better in recent appearances but he certainly wasn't the only one who looked below the standards he's set for himself. Wigan were continuously able to get crosses into the box while there was little support from those out wide when Rovers went forward, and that included Hoole. Obviously, the question now relates to whether or not he's been handed a contract for next season. James Wilson - 5 The centre-back certainly won't want to watch the first goal back but he's not the only one. As an entire defensive unit, Rovers were poor for good spells in the game so Wilson isn't the only one who was below par but there were too many times when it was just too easy for the hosts. On a positive note, the defender did pick out some decent switches. Elkan Baggott - 6 Not as convincing as he has been in recent weeks which is a shame given how impressive the Indonesian has been but at least he offered a bit of threat from set-pieces and got his head on a good number of the deliveries that came into his box. Harvey Vale - 5 A disappointing final display in a Rovers shirt from the Chelsea loanee who has largely been excellent for the Gas. Lost too many individual battles and got caught out too frequently. A tricky afternoon for the youngster. Jordan Rossiter (off for Luke McCormick 67') - 6 As expected, the midfielder got his body in the way on a handful of occasions to help the Gas in their defensive efforts and looked composed on the ball. The next question is whether he's still at the club next season. Antony Evans - 6 One of Rovers' livelier players on the day and certainly looked as though he would be the architect of a Rovers breakthrough in the first half. Annoyingly the timing of the second goal took any potential wind out of the visitors' sails as they showed very little suggestion of getting a goal back in the second half. Luke Thomas (off for Kofi Shaw 79') - 5 Whether it was due to him having an off day or not being used enough by his teammates, the winger rarely seemed to be involved. Admittedly, there was very little attacking play to get involved in but Rovers certainly could have done with the wide man's quality shown in recent weeks. Brandon Aguilera (off for Kamil Conteh 52') - 6 Looked one of the more likely players to make a difference in the final third for Rovers in the first half as the Nottingham Forest loanee got himself into a few decent positions but a blocked shot was the closest he got. Off the ball though the 20-year-old evidently struggled which could be a reason for the change. Scott Sinclair - 6 Admittedly the winger had a very quiet second half but appeared to be Rovers' most dangerous player going forwards. Sinclair was unlucky not to open the scoring with an effort deflected narrowly wide as he sought to bury the ball in the far bottom corner which ended up being the Gas' best chance. Jevani Brown (off for Harry Vaughan 79') - 5 Maybe slightly harsh on the forward who has been playing out of position in these past two matches amid Chris Martin's suspension but, as we've previously clarified, the 29-year-old isn't an out-and-out striker. Very rarely did the Gas look threatening in the final third as the final pass wasn't right or Wigan got a body in the way but the visitors didn't appear to have a focal point. In fairness, Brown did drop deep on a few occasions and win the ball back before releasing a teammate, evidence of his creative nature when playing deeper. Substitutes:Kamil Conteh (on 52') - 6 Tried to make a difference but the game was 2-0 when he came on and Rovers showed very little threat of get themselves back in the game. Luke McCormick (on 67') - 5 Came on and got booked while struggling to make an impact in the final third along with his teammates in the second half. James Connolly (on 67') - 6 oncede after coming on but Wigan certainly had chances to increase their advantage. Kofi Shaw (on 79') - N/A Came on too late to make an impact with the game already 2-0 but great to see the Academy Player of the Year get a deserved debut. Harry Vaughan (on 79') - N/A Same as above, came on with the game already lost.

Dour, uninteresting fixture from the outside. Players politics and pride is the only thing to play for apart from the most important predictions and bets on various forums and bookmakers... For me, this is the first return to Wigan since the two in one season (one was the latest postponement ever!) in our promotion year 1990. This is my only new stadium this season. I wonder how many can say that!? Writing now in transit, a sunny but under chill day will play out in a forgetful last game , no doubt. Last chance to see some. Last chance for them to see us. I find this a wasted opportunity season....I think it's a weaker sandwich of two stronger, because the clubs coming into our league next year look more spendy and established. A season mostly of disappointment with the odd pearls of joy.....but as we career faster into post season blues and the end, at least we can celebrate we are still here And, 3rd division inane football is some we could only have dreamt of in most of this sad century.... Enjoy your football consumption and safe journeys everyone.... UptheGas! It shows how disconnected I have become as I, only today, am finding out the score. I guess I am in recovery and detox from gasheadism 😂 I CBA anymore. This is not the club I once loved, argued and even fought over. 3 years tops is my production. Enjoy it while you can. Not a penny more. I have done my time

Not a bad thing this performance as it underlines the need for a major overhaul. So much mediocrity at our club that it hurts. That’s way too kind. Say it as it is, we are 5 hit

In his post match interview,Chris Wilder said of Sheff Utd's relegation ,'There is a total lack of leadership out there'.Vey honest and LEADERSHIP is something clearly lacking both on and off the pitch at our club. I judge not on what people say but what they do.I wrote to my then MP Bill Cash about a minor matter and he responded on House of Commons headed notepaper saying he would investigate and keep me updated. That was ten years ago and I am still waiting.

Just got back..
From a wonderfully mediocre season and last game whimper...awful...not good enough.
Absolutely brilliant the Gas family encompasses solo traveller, family, groups and couples alike...met another new to me fella, good on you, T.
Absolutely fine fettle moods in and around Wigan from she Shaven Moon to the shoot shoot shoot the bar steward establishments....not least to mention a big shout out to Station Cafe opposite Wallsgate that got the ball rolling...gert lush if ever we deserved a decent start.
Anyways, onto more less important things:
Jed Ward lad take a bow....3 saves in first few minutes kept it respectable. My m o m
Scotty tried. So did a few others. Nice clearance from Wilson off the line, but defence fella of moment once again, Bags. Nice debut for Kofi....some p*ssed up fella thought it was Gordon on! Haha!
And that's about it.
Their no 17 Good a genuine gem ...his trickery left and right baffled us. A true wizard. One to watch next season...
Jed Ward respectable. Matt Taylor not so much. Hardly recognised fans on final whistle. Not for the first time.... he's not enamoured himself with the majority of fanbase.
Some shirts went into the crowd. Some tears on final whistle (celebrations or commiserations?) presumably of boredom...?
Never have I seen such mediocrity been celebrated so much, by so many to so few that actually appear to care..
Ps....oh and some of our songs are becoming embarrassing. But then again, I'm old fashioned.
Enjoy the summer break, Gas and see you then other side..... it'll be a genuine pleasure connecting back up again! UptheGas..

Enjoy the summer break, Gas and see you then other side..... it'll be a genuine pleasure connecting back up again! UptheGas.. 1. When Matt Taylor had a go at the fans and went on about the 'weight of the shirt' on the players, I thought it was a one off. But actually a lot of the players didn't actually seem bothered. I agree with your comment O2. Taylor is not going to be as popular as DC nor does he have the notoriety and bond with some of the fans like B***** had [and still does with some]. I don't think he is going to gel with Gasheads and will remain aloof. For all of his rhetoric, I don't think he understands Gasheads or the bond with the team. I think he will be cold and distant and unless he puts together a decent team, he will soon lose the support, even of those who do back him. I have gone from backing him to giving him 10 games next season. I hope he succeeds and changes the way I am starting to think. 2. This is the quote of the season. I love that most Gasheads will back the team whatever and then live in hope for the next season, even when the players are already on their holidays in their mind and put in a half hearted attempt at playing football. I really do think that the new shareholders now realise they have been sold a pup and are trying to make the best of a bad job. I think they will try to raise revenue and reduce spend so we are unlikely to have a top ten budget next year. Those who keep pretending there are local interests who would buy the club need to now put up or shut up. I think next season is going to be a bumpy ride. The optimism I have felt the last 50+ years watching and loving this club is at its lowest ebb. B***** sucked the marrow out of the club, dividing fans, Taylor is coming across as already weary and bland and whilst Wael supported the club though Covid it has been mostly aimless drifting at high cost. The club really now needs investors who understand football, BRFC and Gasheads. I wish every Gashead a great summer. I hope the break will do us good, and if we can see some decent signings then perhaps, just perhaps, we might have something to get behind. I am not holding my breath. Health and happiness to you all, fellow Gasheads.
