I'll be there, only a hour away from Liverpool St, which is where I live, so closer than a home game for me!

I'll be there with one of my female friends that lives in London, she wants to romance Stuart Sinclair.

Didnt realise you had left Basel. We will be staying in Freiburg so that we dont have to take out a mortgage to buy Swiss beer! Where are you living these days?

Serious question to you Basel, who took the decision to change the spelling of the Swiss town Basle to Basel, and why did they do so? It's not that important a question, but I've always wanted to know the answer.

I believe that in Switzerland it's always been called Basel, but Basle was our version of it. At some stage we chose to revert to theirs.
Lived there for a bit in the Eighties. Loved it.

The French call is 'Baal', which you can get from the 'Basle' spelling, I think, but which the French spell Bale (with a circumflex over the a). The Germans call it 'Basel', as in Fawlty but with a longer 'a' As Wiki puts it... Basel /ˈbɑːzəl/ /ˈbɑːl/ (or, less often used: Basle,[3] German: Basel; pronounced [ˈbaːzəl])[note 1] is Switzerland's third most populous city (behind Zürich and Geneva) with about 195,000 inhabitants.[4] Located where the Swiss, French and German borders meet, Basel also has suburbs in France and Germany.

Many thanks for the reply AMPG. I thought that the Germans would be involved somewhere along the line. But seriously, it seems to me that quite a number of towns, places etc, have been either renamed, or had their pronunciation altered . . . and I can't fathom out why, except for Basel that is thanks to your good self. The classic case of this must be the renaming of Bombay to Mumbai, much to the annoyance of the locals I believe.
