The late goal took Borough dowm from sixth to seventh, and Rovers up from nineteenth to seventeenth, releasing pressure from B*****, and prolonging this awful chapter.

Stats: BRFC 1 Stevenage 1 - Possession: 58% - 42% - Shots: 18-11 - On Target: 2-4 - Corners: 4-4 - Yellows: 6-4 - Referee: Matt Donohue - Attendance: 7,143 (228 away)Stevenage took the lead late in the first-half, as Jamie Reid tucked the ball home from close range, following a Jordan Roberts cross, as Matthew Cox and Connor Taylor collided in the build up. The vistors almost doubled their lead on the hour, as Carl Piergianni header hit the post, following a dangerous cross. Bristol Rovers equalised deep into the second-half, as Chris Martin caught goal keeper Taye Ashby-Hammond off his line and in dramatic fashion, scored from 40 yards out. An entertaining final 10 minutes saw both sides pushing for the victory, but the points were shared in the end. i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article8856071.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200/0_JS314930522.jpgAntony Evans battles with Jamie Reid of Stevenage Player ratings:
Matt Cox - 6 Failed to punch away the initial danger that led to the visitors opener. However made some crucial saves in the second-half. Luca Hoole (subbed off, 79) - 6 Looked positive down the right-hand side from fullback and always looked to get Rovers forward. Connor Taylor - 6 Collided with Cox which allowed Reid to score from close range, but won his arial duals throughout the game. Tristan Crama - 6 Had a tough evening in his return to the starting line-up, but played well and will only improve performance as he regains full match fitness. Joshua Grant - 6 Played at left back before being subtituted at half-time. His physicality was brought in to deal with the visitors’ size and power. Lamare Bogarde (subbed off, 45) - 5 Looked shaky in the middle of the park in the first-half, before being subtituted at the break. Sam Finley - 6 Tried to dictate play in the middle of the park, but struggled to supply the attack with opportunity. Kept possession well and dominated the ball. Antony Evans - 6 Likewise with Finley, struggled to find any real openings from midfield. Had some good efforts from free-kick chances, in dangerous areas of the pitch. Jevani Brown (subbed off, 90) - 6 Played a lot of the game with his back to goal and had limited opportunities to run in behind and use his pace, however looked like Rovers’ most dangerous threat when given the chance. Aaron Collins - 6 Had little impact on the game on the left-handside and struggled to cause the visitors real problems. Chris Martin - 7 Had a tough evening leading the line alone for the Gas and looked isolated at times, with minimal service into the box. However scored an outrageous effort from 40 yards out, catching Ashby-Hammond off his line. George Friend (subbed on, 45) - 6 Slotted in at left back in the second-half and did well considering it was hist first appearance in over a month. Harvey Vale (for Bogarde 46') - 6 Brought the necessary energy needed in the final third. Almost had an assist with his first couple of touches. Clearly most comfortable further up the pitch. John Marquis (for Hoole 79') - N/A Came on too late to make an impact. James Gibbons (for Brown 89') - N/A Subs not used: Matt Hall, Scott Sinclair i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article8856070.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_JS314930555.jpgAaron Collins shares his frustrations to the referee in Bristol Rovers' draw with Stevenage

Close in the bookies. Gas win 6-4 Stevenage 7-4 Draw 5-2 I'll go for an ill-tempered draw between two ill-tempered managers. Good prediction and nine yellow cards.

Just got back..
The natural sprinkles on tonight ! Are these the first fans to sit in our end!? Excellent BC tribute..
Anyhoos....onto less important things. We perrenially struggle against clubs that lack as much resources and crowds as us, and more importantly the very flattening, sorry, very flatulent, sorry, very flattering SE.
But I have to say, they looked by far the better team on the night and we were lucky, unlucky and lucky. If that makes sense!?(!). I think our side will be happier with the point.. SE as much as I don't like him has constructed a very decent physical, first to the ball and generally good quality all over the pitch. They attack with tempo, they guard off the ball well and their defence is miserly. Well done, Stevenage!
I particularly liked Forster Caskey (a delight to see, my m o m) who appeared to ping a ball exactly where he wanted at will, causing us problems from set pieces....one hit the post from header late on, another produced a brilliant save from our keeps.
Which brings us on to both goals I saw as keepers error.
We had a woeful finishing evening. Were we kicking with helium? Were we heading with French helium? Kramer v Kramer could have had 2, but they missed just as many chances so I guess we'll greedily harvest a point and quickly move on..
Someone said once a good sign not playing well and picking up points?
Tonight I witnessed lethargic, little interplay, and Italian tank style football....off the ball we were hurried, displaced and dishevelled. Passes went astray and poor basics made us look whimpered in first half.
Second half, we spruced the house up a bit and tried to huff puff our way around, but to no avail. The namesake Vale looked more positive going forward until the goal out of nothing....yea yea it's not that special: most of us have had a lob on before at the footy!
Nice to hear the Mem singing again!
But we played poorly and desperately need a finisher as it's embarrassing the goals to chances ratio..
We'll do it all again Saturday, same sh!t different day...

Harvey Vale made an impact after coming on whike Martin and Brown were no threat but eventually Martin saw keeper well off his line for our unlikely equaliser
Stevenage by far the better side

ONE NIL DOWN!!!!!!!!!! Our club currently is mediocrity personified both on and off the pitch. 'Mediocrity' is something to aspire to at the moment. This is dire. However a lot of new faces to bed into the side, and I don't think this side is at risk of relegation. Give JB until Christmas and then reassess. Martin should not be a problem playing as a target man with Collins and Brown playing off of him, but he sounds poor. Cox at fault for the goal and doesn't sound an improvement on Belshaw. Just like Balcombe last season. What was it Einstein said about doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? Shame it is only us in this league that have lots of new faces to bed in. None of the 15 clubs above us have had to do this too have they? Would like a pound for every time this lame trope has been trotted out. Need to start grinding out some wins soon as we are now closer to tge drop zone than we are to troubling the playoffs

We have a very large number of new players, an extensive injury list and players who are not up to full fitness. Its not reasonable to expect immediate results and I fully expect results and performances to improve in the run-up to Christmas. As I have said in a previous post, if results and performances do not improve in this period, then JB's position will need to be considered.

JB called S Evans a "fat weeble"in a post match interview apparently.
He should apologize or be given the boot.

I don’t think we have been especially hard done by here and we have a large enough squad to cope. Hell we could even give some of our promising young players game time and who knows they might actually be good enough. We have seen enough of JB by now to know that he is mediocre at best but unfortunately we are saddled with him till he decides it is time to go elsewhere

Steve Evans full of praise for Bristol Rovers ahead of his Stevenage teams visit to the Mem...By Daniel HargravesStevenage manager Steve Evans has labelled the Mem as "a tough place to go" while also praising Bristol Rovers ahead of the two sides' meeting at the Mem on Tuesday evening. Boro, who have been flying in League One since their promotion, go into the contest sat in the play-off positions after taking 22 points from their opening 14 matches although Evans is expecting a tricky affair in BS7. "It's going to be tough," the 60-year-old admitted to Stevenage's club media. "They've been really good at the Memorial (Stadium). I've just given huge compliments to Andy Crosby and Port Vale but when you look at what Bristol Rovers did to them, it was three but could have been 10. It was a real dominant performance. "The Memorial Stadium is always a tough place to go. They've got really good players and one or two back for them which are game changers; they'll make a difference. "I've always said it, they've got an outstanding manager in Joey B*****. Not only was he, in my opinion, a top Premier League footballer, he's a really good manager and has a terrific record at Bristol Rovers. It's going to be tough." Despite losing back-to-back league matches, a victory would see the Gas secure three consecutive home league wins for the first time since April 2022 with it being three weeks since their last Mem outing. Moreover, the last two games on their own turf saw Rovers win by three-goal margins, disposing of Wigan Athletic 4-1 and Port Vale 3-0. Pressure is starting to build though and a return to winning ways will certainly quieten some Gasheads who voiced their frustrations after Saturday's 4-1 defeat at Burton Albion. The visit of Stevenage is the first of two home games this week with Northampton set to make the trip down to the West Country on Saturday and many supporters won't accept anything other than maximum points from the two matches. i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article8852580.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_GettyImages-1251709919.jpgStevenage manager Steve EvansIt is also worth noting that Evans' side are fourth in the away form table having recorded victories on the road at Northampton Town, Cambridge United, Leyton Orient and Cheltenham Town. Moreover, a 3-2 defeat at Bolton Wanderers arguably warranted a result while the 3-0 thumping at Blackpool was a poor day at the office and the 2-0 loss at Reading saw Boro play with 10 men for nearly 70 minutes. Form has dipped slightly for the Hertfordshire outfit, who had been top of the league earlier in the season, with one win in their last six. However, Evans highlighted his side's success on the road, adding: "As much as I was disappointed with the performance at Blackpool, if you could take that out of the equation, our performances away from home have been good. We were outstanding at Bolton, outstanding at Leyton Orient; we've been to some really difficult venues and been really good. "What I do know is that, to add to our points tally, we need to go down there and be very good. If we're any short we'll lose the game."
