Calum MacDonald: Mansfield Town sign left-back following Bristol Rovers release..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/17365/production/_129877059_shutterstock_editorial_13773340bl.jpgMansfield Town have signed left-back Calum MacDonald on a two-year deal following his release from League One side Bristol Rovers. The 25-year-old featured four times in four months for the Pirates after arriving from Stockport in January. He had only been with Stockport for three months and previously played for Tranmere, Derby, Blackpool and Barrow. "This seems like the perfect place for me at this stage of my career," MacDonald told the club website. MacDonald joins a Stags side that will be missing experienced defender Stephen McLaughlin for the start of next season because of a knee injury. "With Macca [McLaughlin] missing the start of the season due to injury, we needed someone who can go straight into the line-up at left-back and Calum fits the bill," said Mansfield boss Nigel Clough.

I have a sneaking suspicion he will do well at Mansfield, looked good in spells within the few opportunities he had, methinks he needed a run in the team to reach full potential.

Seems to have been a panic aquisition and many did not understand why we had bought him, hardly played and really seemed odd to have got him. Of course, i wish him all the very best but if we really are to challenge then we will need players of a higher quality. I just wonder what our owner thinks of it and what he is prepared to spend, to get to next level. Whatever, he has done well out of the move and now has been signed by Mansfield. Let’s see how he progresses.

Another fleeting Gas appearance was the loanee I think from Brentford who came on late at Exeter and set up a dramatic late equaliser.Fell out with JB allegedly but can include on his CV now he played for the mighty Gas. Strong ex Gas contingent now at Mansfield. Thanks for info.Fulham that was it!!

Looked pretty decent in his cameo away at Shrewsbury. Don’t think he had a proper chance here but who knows what he was like in training and seems to have a history in not settling anywhere for long. Bit of an enigma I think

Think you are teferring to Sylvester Jasper who we had on losn from Fulham Now in Portugal en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvester_JasperDidnt realise he had possibility of playing for 3 different nations - look like he may have settled on the one that gives him the best chance of a full cap - Bulgaria Can anyone remember if he was any good from his time here?

Recall a Scottish full back-Wilson- we loaned from somewhere. His debut for us was at Vale and his first touch was to score an OG. Further back we loaned Stoke manager Tony Waddington's son Steve. He came on as sub at the Mem and his first involvement was to give a pen away. Triva but not much else happening!!!!

Flattered to deceive with us, Jasper was quick, had lots of tricks but lacked in the end product department, but he was young, I don’t know about today, Jasper could bee a tidy player, and if he is on the way up, surely must sign for Brentford. Another loanee player similar, that also fell by the wayside was Adam Dawson 2015/16 season, another tricky player with little end product for us.

He showed flashes of what he could do, however, he thought that he was better than he actually was, and was vocal within the squad with the view that he should be picked ahead of other players. He needed to show that on the training ground, not just vocalise it. No idea what the standard of football is, regarding the team he has signed for. I thought MacDonald had something about him, and pleased to see that he's secured a decent length contract with Mansfield.

Sure about that Colyton ? No recollection of Steve Waddington but then my memory isn’t what it used to be! Did have Tony Pulis’s son who was pretty forgettable.

I thought his form was bit of a flurry for this division but in league 2 Mansfield might have found a nugget..

Seems to have spent quite a few years coaching in the States. Nice work if you can get it. Maybe he’ll be as good as his dad at this? The ultimate flatter to deceive merchant with no end profuct has to br Kyle Bennett. Drove me insane every time I watched him

Drove me insane every time I watched him I thought KB started off OK under DC he just seemed to totally lose his way as DC also lost his way at Rovers, unfortunately for him he was never going to be a GC type player.

No end product with him though Droitwich. Easy on the eye and buzzed around a lot but totally ineffective in my view. You and others may have a different and equally valid opinion. Just not my sort of player. Agree that he coincided with DC losing the plot and overthinking things though

Drove me insane every time I watched him Made worse by knowing how much he was getting by not playing We were warned about Kyle by Portsmouth fans! I think he tried his best but ultimately yes, flattered to deceive. I think a Mod at the other place posted what he was being paid to play (or not, as the case may be). I didn't think that helped the situation. After Rovers loaned him out, looks like he dropped down the leagues - Telford and Hednesford and currently Stratford (not east London). DC got that one wrong. But not as wrong as signing Tom Nichols...

Not sure TN's manage to carry on playing league football, KB, like Stefan Payne, has just gone backwards since DC signed him.
