Haven't heard a thing about the Youth Team for ages. Been wondering if they were abandoned, as the Development Squad was, for a money saving exercise.
- The Youth Team used to have articles published on the Rovers website: news, matches, reports.
- There used to be match highlights recorded, posted on you tube, publicised on the website and shared on social media.
- There used to be a couple of pages in the matchday programme devoted to the Youth Team.
- They used to be mentioned in the Supporters Club section of the programme, and their website.
- You used to be able to know some of the names in the Youth Team: who to look out for; who had been taken on as first year; who was retained in the second year; who was given a professional contract at the end of the two years; who might be knocking on the door of the first team.
- In the Rovers 'Pirate' programme, there is no mention of Youth Team or Academy in the list of 'Football Staff'
- On the Rovers website --> Club --> Academy - there is just some information about 'Our Mission' and 'Academy Vision'.
- On the Rovers website --> Teams --> Staff Profiles - there is no mention of Youth Team or Academy staff.
- On the Rovers website --> Teams --> Academy - there are actually pen-pics of 17 'Academy' players, but no mention of staff.
- Old articles on the website show that: Chris Hargreaves left as 'Academy Manager' on 25/02/2023 ... Brian Dutton was appointed 'Academy Manager' on 17/03/2022 ... Byron Antony appointed 'Academy Manager' on 04/07/2022.
Thing is, the terminology used to be different. There was a separation between the Academy and Youth Team, with a 'Head of Academy' overseeing the yearly ages groups from 8 upwards, and then a separate Youth Team Manager (U18s).
Anyway, I eventually found some information and we do still have a Youth Team. Just an obscure website, and just list of results to show that this season we've...
Won 7 / Drawn 6 / Lost 12.

It's a shame we no longer hear about the Youth Team / Academy.
