Apparently GT is retiring this year. I think thats almost end of an era stuff because I cant see who can replace him, certainly none of the people that I hear on Radio Bristol now.
My favourite GT interview was one of his last ones with al qadi about 4 years ago ( ?) GT was getting exasperated because it was like trying to nail down a jelly getting a straight answer from the bloke.
Hope that GT has a good retirement.

He was supposed to hang on until Tom Lockyer was ready to take over the reigns. :-)
End of an era. Thanks for your service GT! All the very best for the next chapter, whatever that my be.
I liked Tony Pounder's twitter reply.

GT has certainly earned his retirement, did not like him on the Radio at first, now like him a lot, he will be missed I am sure.

Okay presenter, but likes the sound of his own voice a bit much.
I imagine having to feign an interest in the bloated franchise across the river eventually took a toll...
Our fans, players and managers are immeasurably more eloquent, intelligent and presentable than theirs (one of the many benefits of not recreating with an immediate family member), so there's a good chance the replacement will be a blue also.
Holloway would be a good suggestion. Already an established media figure.

He's value for money as a guest, however, I can't envisage him being a good presenter/anchorman.

Absolute comedy gold...the first part of the sentence and then writing 'recreating' instead of 'procreating' brilliant, thanks for making this morning even funnier.... btw I have met some really thick as mince Rovers supporters and some right scruffs too,I have also met some intelligent and smart city lads (and girls). BBC local radio stations are cutting back so maybe GT wont be replaced,if he is it will probably someone from the rugby fraternity.

Ian can make and take a joke. If Lineker, Alison Hammond or Adrian Chiles can do it, then literally anybody can. Lineker only got MoTD on the back of a sports quiz and not on the basis of his innate abilities or qualification/s for the job. Presenting isn't rocket science, and I'm sure Ian could turn his talents to it.

Jesus wept - I think these 'intelligent and smart city lads (and girls) are very much in the minority, if not extinct. Just out of vague interest, any City players or managers as witty or sharp as Holloway? I'm obviously biased, but I genuinely can't think of anybody. I do remember O'Driscoll, who has a strong claim to be the dullest manager in football league history. Who was your last vaguely interesting or charismatic manager - was it Benny Lennartsson?

I remember thinking Geoff was a little too 'nice' in his interviews early on in his eg Having A Gas shows.
This soon changed and he proved willing to ask those awkward questions and not without some determined persistency.
I think he's done Rovers,City and Bristol area sport proud.
Happy to of met him just a few weeks ago on the East Terrace,Mem.Decent bloke.

I feel you may be on thin ice.

I feel you may be on thin ice. I'm by no means B*****'s biggest fan, but he's certainly more eloquent and intelligent than meathead Pearson or any of their recent incumbents. B***** doesn't do himself any favours in press conferences, but still comes across better than Pearson, who seems a bit of an unpleasant and sneering bully.

Reading young rideintothesun makes me miss my dear old adversary Bambi more. To those who have a line to him, please tell him I expect to see him back on this website within sixty minutes of B*****'s eventual departure, if not before. For my part, I always found Geoff Twentyman's radio work on Rovers perfectly listenable, and I was glad to have it. BBC Radio is flawed, but a good service, that I wouldn't choose to be without. Thanks for the gas, Geoff.

Geoff Twentyman Jr..Age: 64, Pro Clubs: Preston North End & BRFC.Geoffrey Twentyman (born 10th March 1959) is an English former professional footballer, who is now the main sports presenter for BBC Radio Bristol & BBC Radio Somerset, The son of former Liverpool player Geoff Twentyman, Geoff Jr. began his career as a trainee at his father's club, but after failing to make the grade there he played for Formby before being sold on to Chorley for around £1,000 and from there to Preston North End. After making 110 league & cup appearances for Preston, scoring four goals, he was released by the Lancashire club and was signed by Bristol Rovers. He was taken to Rovers by Bobby Gould, and was later managed by Gerry Francis, playing a total of 320 league & cup games, scoring six goals. He later made a Wembley appearance in the final of the Associate Members' Cup in 1990. Twentyman began coaching youth football with Brimsham Green F.C. in Yate shortly after moving to Bristol and is now the club's honorary president. When Francis left Rovers in 1991, Twentyman applied for the vacant manager's job, but was not appointed. After the end of his playing career he studied at Bristol Polytechnic and then joined Radio Bristol as a sports journalist. In 1993, he became the sports editor of Radio Bristol. When Ian Holloway became the manager of Bristol Rovers in 1996, Twentyman joined him as assistant manager. The job wasn't to his liking and he returned to his previous job in 1997. On 22nd June 2008, he played for Bristol Rovers in the inaugural Western Masters, where the team finished third of the four teams competing. In late 2015 it was announced Twentyman would leave the Drivetime show he'd been presenting on Radio Bristol and instead present a nightly sports show every weekday between 6-7pm, in addition to his presenting duties on Saturday Sport. On April 11th 2023, it was announced he would be leaving the BBC after three decades. His last programme will be aired on 22nd May 2023. newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/45541000/jpg/_45541357_geofftwentyman01.jpgi2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article8343879.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_JMP_Bristol_City_v_Charlton_RH_091JPG.jpgwww.bristol247.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Geoff-Twentyman-photo-BBC-800x450.jpg

Never the same after he shaved his tash off.
I just can't forgive him for the last minute free kick at Trashton 1-0 down, we beat their offside trap and who does the ball fall to...?
Twentypence.
They should have named the Atyeo End, The 20man, as the ball's still stuck somewhere in a tree of the garden behind that end... 🤬

Have had the pleasure of working with Geoff at both the Mem and the Gate over the past six years. He's a decent fella; typical affable Scouser with a good sense of humour and a sharp mind.
City's fans did a nice little presentation to him in the press box at the Gate last Saturday; the place will be duller and quieter without him, that's for sure.
Happy retirement Geoff.

Hard to fathom how that place could get any duller but there you go.
