There really was'nt much between the two teams.
As has been said,Pompeys first looked offside going by the ifollow still doing the rounds and professional officials looks increasingly a good idea, but today, that would'nt be quite the issue it is, if we had taken say a third of our chances created.
I think Pompey will be 3rd tier next season.
I'll feel more relaxed once we,if we reach 50 plus points.

Portsmouth are in tenth position and 10 points off the play offs. They could really do with beating Rovers. We created a few chances against Wycombe and if we can do the same in this match, but find our scoring boots then we can give Pompey a game. Everything now is for us to stay up and learn as much about our current squad as possible,in readiness for next season. I expect Collins to to have a good game. Maybe a goal for Quansah and Bogarde. The last I heard it was all but sold out. Looking forward to what could be a great game. Come on Rovers! Don’t think either Bogarde or Quansah have scored a competitive goal between them, for both to score against Pompey would have attracted serious odd’s from the bookies…ever the optimist Bas!….. They both had a go at goal Taiwagas.

Stats: BRFC 0 Portsmouth 2 - 55% - 45% - Shots 17-7 - On Target 7-3 - Corners 4-3 - Referee: James Bell - Attendance: 9,448 (away 1,275) Portsmouth take the points at The Mem.A penalty, a red card and a dubious offside call saw Rovers slump to a two-nil reverse to Portsmouth. Colby Bishop scored both goals and Gas defender Jarell Quansah was sent off late on to make it two home defeats in a week. Rovers had made two changes to the side that started against Wycombe on Tuesday evening. In came Luca Hoole and Antony Evans to replace Scott Sinclair and James Connolly, who were named on the substitutes bench. John Marquis was fouled in the 8th minute to hand Rovers a free-kick in a decent position thirty-five yards from goal. Evans' delivery was perfect for the advancing Lewis Gibson, but the newly-installed captain could only direct his header straight to Portsmouth goalkeeper Macey, who left Rovers as a youngster to join Arsenal in 2013. Portsmouth's first attack in the 14th minute saw them win a corner, which Coburn was able to head clear. Collins went close to opening the scoring in the 15th minute after his long-range shot was tipped behind by Macey. After the corner was cleared, Gordon played a beautiful diagonal ball to Evans, but a Pompey defender just nicked it off his toe as he shaped to cross. i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/article8265551.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200/0_JMP_Bristol_Rovers_V_Portsmouth_WC-147jpgain.jpgi2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/article8265922.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/0_JMP_Bristol_Rovers_V_Portsmouth_WC-489.jpgi2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/article8263281.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_JMP_Oxford_United_v_Bristol_Rovers_RC_115JPGjp.jpgFrom the corner, Quansah - who was clearly being held by Rafferty - still managed to get his head on it but it flew narrowly wide. It was to prove costly as the visitors went ahead in the 19th minute as Bishop beat the offside flag to fire across goal and in off the post. In the aftermath, referee Bell booked Rovers' coaches Andy Mangan and Glenn Whelan, who were incensed by the lack of a flag from the linesman. After 26 minutes, Belshaw claimed low down as Hackett shot on target from twenty yards. Ward was shown a yellow after 36 minutes for a foul on Thompson. Ironic cheers reverberated around The Mem after 40 minutes as first the linesman flagged for offside and then the referee awarded the Gas a free-kick after Marquis was bundled over. Evans' delivery was headed clear by Towler. Marquis blazed over from just inside the area in the 42nd minute, after a surging run from Bogarde and a pass from Collins had presented the former Portsmouth man with a chance to equalise. Rovers made two changes at half-time, with Sinclair and Macdonald replacing Marquis and Gordon. Joey B***** was shown a yellow card during the half-time interval. Portsmouth almost doubled their lead in the opening minute, but Evans intercepted well at the back post. Hackett fired over from an acute angle in the 49th minute. A quickly-taken free-kick from Evans a minute later found Aaron Collins in space; his first-time cross flashed across the face of the Portsmouth goal, inches away from Coburn. Macdonald's cross was headed behind for a corner as the Gas looked for the equaliser, attacking the Thatchers End. Ward was next to threaten the visitors' goal, as Evans and Collins combined to set up a headed opportunity after 57 minutes that the midfielder guided just wide. The number eight then took a snapshot from outside the area, but the ball flew well over Macey's bar. Jacobs' corner hit the post before Pompey were awarded a penalty after Macdonald impeded a Portsmouth striker as he looked to reach the rebound from a Belshaw save. Bishop calmly sent the Gas 'keeper the wrong way to put the visitors two-up in the 67th minute. Quansah headed on target as the home side looked to strike immediately back, but Macey claimed, before Bishop went looking for his hat-trick with an audacious effort from all of fifty yards. Loft and Finley were introduced after 72 minutes, replacing Evans and Ward. Portsmouth won a free-kick on the edge of the area after Jacobs was tripped. The same player stepped up to take it but hammered his effort straight at the Rovers wall. Macdonald fired over a great cross that Hoole headed goalwards, but Macey parried, with Loft heading wide from the follow-up. Tunnicliffe was shown a yellow for a cynical trip on Sinclair in the 75th minute. The Rovers number seven took it himself and drew a flying save from Macey, resulting in a Gas corner. Collins played a neat one-two with Bogarde but his low shot on target was claimed by Macey. Quansah was shown a straight red for a late tackle on Morrell in the 89th minute. Rovers: Belshaw, Gordon (Macdonald 45), Quansah, Ward, Marquis (Sinclair 45), Collins, Gibson (c), Evans, Bogarde, Hoole, Coburn. Subs: Balcombe, Sinclair, Finley, Loft, Connolly, Whelan, Macdonald. Portsmouth: Macey, Ogilvie, Tunnicliffe, Bishop, Morrell, Rafferty, Hackett-Fairchild, Raggett (c), Thompson, Lane, Towler. Subs: Oluwayemi, Robertson, Dale, Scarlett, Jacobs, Lowery, Bernard.

Joey B***** lists four key decisions he felt went against Bristol Rovers in loss to Portsmouth..by James PiercyJoey B***** claimed Bristol Rovers’ 2-0 defeat to Portsmouth was almost exclusively decided by the officials as the Gas manager was not only incensed by Colby Bishop’s contentious opener but a string of big decisions that went against his side. i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/article8265920.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_JMP_Bristol_Rovers_V_Portsmouth_WC-559.jpgB***** was booked at half-time for his protestations towards referee James Bell, after coaches Andy Mangan and Glenn Whelan were also cautioned, following Bishop’s 18th minute goal in which the Pompey striker easily got behind the Rovers defence, so much so he looked clearly offside. Assistant referee Ian Cooper, though, kept his flag down for Bishop to score past James Belshaw - the ball hitting both posts before crossing the line - and the Gas were on the back foot and having to chase the game thereafter. B*****, along with the majority of the Mem, was furious but that was only compounded by further calls against his team as, first, Calum Macdonald was penalised for pulling Paddy Lane back as he looked to pounce on a ball slightly spilled by James Belshaw, Bell awarding a penalty for which Bishop made it 2-0. Josh Coburn was denied a spot-kick of his own following some roughhouse defending, which B***** felt warranted a penalty for the hosts, while he also considered Jarell Quansah late lunge on Joe Morrell only worthy of a yellow card when it was red. “You’ve got to tread carefully here because they double down and they come after you for telling the truth so we can’t tell the truth, which is unfortunate,” B***** said. “The officials are a law unto themselves and, today, a game between the 22 players, there’s not much between the two sides and they make a big call and get it wrong and we suffer for that. “I’m thinking, the two big calls that follow that - the penalty for the second goal, when I watch it back, Paddy Lane pulls our player and then throws himself on the floor plus the ball hasn’t got away from James Belshaw so he’s going to get to it. “If that’s a penalty then surely the pull on Josh Coburn’s shirt is a penalty in their box. We don't get it and then to compound that, for what I think is a yellow card tackle for a bit of frustration from a young player, he gives a straight red card. "So, we feel cheated, we feel aggrieved, because big decisions have gone against us but we have to dust ourselves down and the officials will sail off into the world of unaccountability as they do and they’ll be backed up by the assessor.” The defeat proved Rovers’ seventh straight home game without a win, in all competitions, with their last being the 2-1 triumph over Cheltenham Town on New Year’s Day, but it was overall a performance that probably deserved something out of the contest. Like the 2-0 defeat to Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday night, they created ample chances but were unable to take them and then hit by two goals slightly against the run of play, which impacted their own momentum. B***** was unable to fully analyse his side’s performance, however, as his focus remained on another aspect of the game. “Honestly, there’s no point me talking about it,” he added. “We work hard all week and then it’s just ruined by officials so there’s no point talking about what actually happened in the game. It’s not as if it’s a yard… everyone in the stadium can see it’s off. You just know from instinct it’s off, we have the benefit of replay but nine and a half thousand of our fans can see it’s off. “Every player stops but the people that matter who have the responsibility of calling the game squarely, they make stuff up and invent stuff that’s happened. “And it’s frustrating. Our lads graft and work hard during the week, we work hard Monday to Friday but amateurs, and I say this with the nicest possible hat on, because I do want the lads to get full-time spots.” Due to postponements of the games at Shrewsbury Town and Plymouth Argyle, Rovers now have a 20-day break until their next League One encounter with the visit of Charlton Athletic to the Mem on Good Friday and the players will be afforded a few days off next week to spend time with their families. The Gas go into that enforced recess 15th in the table, 19 points from the top six and 10 from the relegation places with nine matches remaining, all now having to be played in a condensed final four weeks of the campaign. “Our level with you, I wish it was the end of the season,” B***** said. “We can’t really get promoted, it doesn’t look like we’re going to get in the relegation battle. I’ve just got to the point where you want to set the targets for next year. There’s nothing worse with nothing to play for with nine games to go. "From our perspective, the sooner we can get back into that winning groove at home is going to be key. We need to rip our pitch up and, you’ve seen again, it’s not great for football. "I don’t think, in open play, we were a side that was capable of losing, same as Tuesday night, but we’ve somehow managed to lose a game that we shouldn’t be losing. That’s very disappointing.”

Well, Joey - you should be using these games to prepare for next season so that we have a solid base to build on. This is one of the problems we have with using so many loan players - these players won't here next season and so you are building from scratch. Before the infamous 1999/00 season, we consistently finished mid-table in the preceding two seasons. But you could see a team emerging and the Roberts-Cureton partnership beginning to emerge. I don't see this at the moment - I see a collection of loan players, several players who are out of their depth, a goalkeeper problem, a left-back signed on a temporary free transfer from the league below and bottom-four home form. Not good and doesn't bode well for next season. We need two wins and two draws from nine. This is what your focus should be on. Not the referee and not the pitch.

Agree that this doesn't bode well for next season for the reasons you give above, except that I'm not sure I'd say any of them are out of their depth. I'm jut not convinced B***** gets the best out of them. We could be back in L2 in about 14 months.

It's like déjà vu when he arrived. Has he given up again on us? Where the hell are we going to find two draws let alone two wins. We are going to have to rely on the bottom four remaining roughly the same.

Shrews away, home game vs Charlton and Fleetwood away look the easiest on paper, but we have a tough final 9 games to find the two wins from

Absolutely, We have key/ever present ‘loanees’ in defence/midfield/attack, when they wave goodbye I suppose we start the great reset and build again.

JB is perfectly aware of the challenge to remain 3rd tier.

B***** was booked at half-time for his protestations towards referee James Bell, after coaches Andy Mangan and Glenn Whelan were also cautioned, following Bishop’s 18th minute goal in which the Pompey striker easily got behind the Rovers defence, so much so he looked clearly offside. That’s very disappointing.” To be fair, he did say all that with his nicest possible hat on. #moron

I'm less concerned about us getting relegated than I was after JB pointed out we are still creating chances, once our scoring boots are rediscovered we'll be alright.A team lacking creativity would be more of a concern.

Just got back... But feel like am still out.
That darn road is ever giving. Some laughs, genuine good and different company again before and after that 3pm pantomime made for another memorable day.
Funny how this fixture always digs up controversy!? Nothing controversial about silly boy Quansah that put paid to the hope we'd pull something back out of this match....but their first goal looking suspiciously offside just made eyes roll - here we go again!? .....why can't they have a jch second pen taker where the ball is still somewhere in orbit?
Anyhoos... Collins had 2 decent chances, but our ex girlfriend more than matched the challenge of protecting the goal like a womb and in reality, none of our forward sperms looked good enough to penetrate their defence (well it was ladies day).
Conversely, of you bang the Bishop, you get a couple of spurts that were enough to gain victory for a well organised Pompeii outfit that took advantage of their fortune, but we gave them a game.
I'm still unconvinced our mid with Ward is the answer.... if so, what the hell is the question? Bogarde for me gets better and better and more involved...not sure on Gordon...Luca can't cross but it appears many of them effectively can't either... and Coburn has gone off the boil enough to ask what all the fuss is about?!
I liked Lofty contribution. And the Belly. Scotty flitted in and out. The two centre backs had a tough day but done ok.... until one decided hand them a pen and lucky to stay on pitch and the other went in for headbutt champion 2023.....we could have been facing the next few matches with NEITHER of them, so I think we were a tad fortunate.
What the East side lino saw was beyond me but he had the best view in stadium so I guess he called it right, but in truth a draw was the best we'd ever attain against them lot and massive respect to their fans and club for playing it the right way and making a game of it.
We move on after a hell of a wake up call week with a bit of a break..... what could possibly go wrong?
Ask JAB, he'll say all's fiiiiiiiiiiiiine and none of it is his fault...

Averaging 0.86 goals a game this year across 14 games, when you consider 6 of the 6 of the 12 goals scored came in two games I’d start to get a bit twitchy. That’s 8 games without troubling the scoreboard.
