First off, I've said before, and I still think now, that we're a mid-table team. Here are the season comparisons...
22/02/2021 ... 19th ... 27 points ... 2 points above the drop zone.
22/02/2023 ... 16th ... 38 points ... 8 points above the drop zone.
Positives: - We're 3 places better off. - We're 11 points better off.
However: - Although we're 11 points better off, we have played 4 more games than at 22/02/2021. - Although we're 8 points above the drop zone, we were 2 points above the drop zone but finished 10 points from safety in 2020/21.
I suppose having played 4 more games there is less chance others catching us.

Different players, different run of form etc. The only fact is our current form, of Ur current run of results, makes us relegation fodder. Can our manager influence a change of fortune? That is the question

Can our manager influence a change of fortune? That is the question Another question to ask is why the difference between 20/21 and 22/23 is so marginal when the club has gone through “ the great reset” ? Exactly, basically nothing is moving forward in any area. No real progress on the field, no real progress off the field other than token gestures (ok maybe with the exception of the training ground). Why is the only possible option with regards to a stadium this vague Fruit Market scheme? Surely there are other places a stadium could be built, somewhere in South Gloucestershire perhaps? It seems the Fruit Market is a convenient way of fobbing us all off. I know I'm not saying anything new here but basically seven years since the WAQ era started and all we are still is a league 1/2 yo-yo team with possibly the worst stadium facilities in the whole EFL. Surely the mem could be redeveloped into a something like a 16,000 capacity stadium, and if it ever gets to the point where we outgrow it, then move to a new site. I can't see even if we did reach championship level one season that suddenly 25,000 fans are going to be fighting to watch every week. Why develop the infrastructure for a premier league club when being between championship and league one would be great. That's what the club historically used to be and probably could be again if things were done a bit better.

For me, what this shows is that JB has achieved the bare minimum of the goals he set out to achieve (and hopefully this is just phase 1 of the long term plan). We are back in League One and not under immediate threat of relegation. Compare where we were this time last year.
Phase 1 for me was to get back out of League Two. DONE. Phase 2 is to stop being a League One / League Two yo-yo team. Only time will tell if this has been achieved. Phase 3 is to become a League One / Championship yo-yo team (i.e. regularly in the League One playoffs or better). Phase 4 is to become an established Championship team.
I personally cannot see Phase 4 being completed in my lifetime (I am only 48 by the way), although this is my ambition for the club. Phases 2 and 3 are 100% achievable and we should settle for no less than this as a club and fanbase, in my opinion.
If the club exists for the next 20 years in phases 3 and 4 then I can see the fanbase naturally growing steadily. If we remain in phase 2 then the average attendance will be roughly what it is now.
