I heard some sad news this morning that Colin Dobson has died. Remember him and Kenny Stephens putting in great crosses back in much happier times.

Very sad to hear, will always remember the kind way he told me i was not good enough for Bristol Parkway or Rovers youth teams, back at Hambrook. He took me to one side and said, do you have any other sport that you like and can concentrate on 😂. Admittedly, at 14, i did cry in the back of the car but soon got over it. At least i made the final trial game and played with some new legendary Rovers names in it

Very sad indeed. One of the very consistent players in my favourite team/season of all time, 1973/74. After the exciting times of Bill Dodgin, Don Megsons team was very hard to beat and without checking I think we had 6/7players who played 42+ games that season. I think he was player/coach as well. Would unlikely be in any top 20 of Rovers players but he was a very underrated, consistent and reliable player. A mainstay of only our second ever promotion (7 now) so well-deserving of any credits imo. Sad news, RIP.

Very sad news, Colin Dobson played for Sheff.Wed, Huddersfield, Brighton and 69 times for BRFC scoring 5 goals.
Colin played in 2 games for England U23 in 1961, Colin was 82 when he passed.
Upon learning of his passing, Bristol Rovers wrote: "We were saddened to learn of the passing of former Rovers player and coach Colin Dobson."
His former Wednesday team-mate Don Megson made Dobson his first signing as Bristol Rovers manager in 1972.
He would return from his broken leg injury to debut that November, going on to excel for the club.
Dobson helped Rovers to promotion in the 1973-74 season - also featuring in an 8-2 victory over former club Brighton along the way.
He retired in 1976 before launching a managerial career in the 1980s.
