I've just been watching the Repair Shop here in NZ and a Bristol man was getting his Grandfather's boxing kit bag repaired. The back story was his Grandad lost his arm in an accident ending his boxing career so he took up coach driving. Yes, coach driving with one arm pre power steering days.
I have a sketchy memory of going on a Rovers away match with Len's coaches and having a one armed driver.
Anyone else recall such a thing?

Alfred "Alf" Bond (died 1 July 1986)[1] was an English football referee who was the referee in the 1956 FA Cup Final. Bond was born in Silvertown, Essex.[2] He was a former right-half for Danes Athletic in the South-West District League — of which he was Vice-President. Bond lost his right arm at the age of 19 when working in a rubber factory. He learned to write and perform other tasks with his left hand. He tried to resume playing but found that his "balance had gone" so he decided to take up refereeing instead.[3] Promotion came via the Corinthian League, the Football Combination and the Southern League.

My Dad and Uncle were supporters of Len Munden's boxing promotions at the Colston Hall in the 1960's. There must have been many hundreds there but I can remember them saying how Len always came around and chatted to them and made everyone feel welcome. Dad was a friend of Jack Bodell a pro boxer from South Derbyshire who was British Heavyweight Champion for a time. He fought 4 and won 4 at the Colston Hall and also beat much more fancied boxers like Billy Walker, Johnny Prescott, Brian London and Joe Bugner but couldn't overcome Henry Cooper.

Did you ever see the Bristol bomber, Gary Chippendale ? Did a bit of door work with Gary, real character and could really did, even if punchy drunk. Always eating peanuts on the door
