This would typify the rovers i grew up with. DC took a lot old stick and i think many would agree that he got us “our” Rovers back. Shame it ended as it did but a bit of politeness would be lovely.

Keep to the football side of it because we know nothing about the private DC

Don’t know what a min clap is but DC a legend and should always be warmly welcomed at BRFC.

Do you guys realise what the minutes clap is for, or about ? I have no idea? Nor me but i assumed as a measure of respect is what i thought. I have read about his daughter and the tragic way in which she took her own life, the guy has been through literal hell. If there is a reason then can someone please say ? Think he is worth a round of applause anytime he comes back to our ground as, Megson team apart, i have not had that level of excitement in my lifetime. I would go so far as to say that I’d love him to do very well indeed.

I didn't know about this. What a wonderful idea. I have the utmost respect for Darrell Clarke. The OP might want to review his original comment.

Does anybody seriously think he wants to be reminded of the death of his daughter at a specific time during a days work infront of a few 1000 people. People need to be left to grief in their own way, not have it forced upon them. DC will know that he's been in people's thoughts, he will get a round of applause as he crosses the pitch and will want to concentrate on his task in hand. Well meant but awlful idea.

Not sure why some disagree with you.

I think a round of applause, and maybe chant his name as he crosses the pitch to the dugout. Once the game is underway, I don't think that it is appropriate to make a gesture (although well meaning) which relates to the tragic death of his daughter. 90 minutes on a matchday is probably one of the few times when his head can be elsewhere for some respite. He knows how we feel about him overall, and his recent loss, best not to take that any further I feel - let him do his job.

I'm with syg and bath gas on this one. time traveller -This is a tricky one, for me with ithe chant his name and applaud b/f kick off - then ‘gloves off’ we have a football match to win. Then at the final whistle more applause and name chanting would be appropriate as he was pivotal in getting our Rovers back. UTG

I just think that explains your position a lot better than the original post. Don't think there's any need to 'fall out' about this one. Whatever happens - it just shows there's still a lot of respect to Darrell.

I can understand both sides.
When I first saw this idea brought up and discussed on the facebook groups, my first reaction was a feeling of unease, being slight uncomfortable about it. Is is the right thing to do? And if so is the 18th minute right to remember DC's daughter? And also take into account the 16th minute applause for NA.
But it seems to have gained traction; this is obviously people who want to show their love; Port Vale fans are apparently in with this; the local press are publicising it.
The OP sentence, taken in tandem with the thread Title, with no acknowledgement of the reason, with no context or explanation, comes across to me lacking respect.
- Would I have suggested this as an idea? - No. - Do I think it's the worst idea I've heard in a long time? - No. - If there is a minutes applause for DC and to remember his daughter, will I join in? - Yes.

It's easy to be ambiguous by presuming others' knowledge, which is all that happened here. We've all done that: I was screenshotted and threatened for it not so long ago! All can show DC a bit of love in the way they feel most appropriate, and there are clearly a good number who wish to, as would I, were I in a position to attend. I would not make direct reference to a tragic bereavement though, for the reasons better illustrated by others above.

However it is done... just think of Darrell. He's an emotional chap, we know that. Having 8,000+ people showing they really care about him is IMHO a jolly good thing.
