Hi
You may have recently read my update on the measures taken by Bristol Rovers to improve the quality and bring down the cost of food and beverages in the Bristol Room and Supporters Bar. I was also delighted to see the club are allowing kids into the ground for free today. This I very much welcome. All these measures ensure that the club is seen to do all it can to ensure you and your families can afford to get behind the lads at a time when we need your support more than ever.
However, I do regret that despite several attempts, as far as I know the post match Happy Hour in the Supporters Bar is yet to return.
I wrote to the club after the Grimsby game, and earlier this week, to ask for the post match Happy Hour to return. I received a response from the club and informed that this could not happen as the club had not put up prices for two years, and the beer was now costing 10p more. With this response in mind, I then wrote back and asked if we could reach a compromise i.e.50p off a pint?
It is with deep regret that I have not received a reply to this request. Now it may be that the club intend to do this. However, without a reply, I assume sadly they are not.
Therefore please accept my sincere apologies if there is no Happy Hour after the game.
In light of this decision I therefore intend sending around a petition form both prior to and after today’s match, kindly asking the club’s board to review this decision as a matter of urgency.
I sincerely hope that these new measures taken to improve food and bring down costs are a significant help to you and I thank the club for that. I would also hope that you continue to use our facilities after the game as I am sure this issue can and will be resolved.
I look forward to seeing you at the match today and sincerely hope we get our first win of the season. With your support we will!
UTG!
Brian
Director.

Couldn't he have e-mailed or maybe phoned, much quicker :-)
I do find that comment odd.

Was going to ask who this was from? If BSS werote this himself then I don't understand why he has to write to BRFC to clarify this? They really are a bloody shambles.

And this thread proves, beyond reasonable doubt, the worthlessness of the fans director positions and why Rod Chapman is wasting his time and everyone else's by standing in the first place.
Here is a full, executive director of a private limited company whose views are deemed so unimportant he has been reduced to writing to the board to which he belongs.
What a happy coincidence that Mr Seymour Smith will be glad-handing thirsty fans around the stadium, brandishing a petition to allow fans to drink cheap beer, just at the time he is seeking to stay on the board of directors.
Surely shome mishtake?

The fans director doesn't get a reply from the rest of the board.
Does £1m get you any more at other clubs?

Well we did ask for more feedback from the FD now we're getting it posters still complain!
It seems to me BSS post shows the FD is just really a go-between between the SC & the BoD and clearly not a full board member.
Not sure why BSS didn't just say he emailed NH and he told him where to go!

So presumably you are all happy that we no longer have a happy hour after the game. Good for you if cost is no object. Aren't you also the ones moaning about the cost of entry? It seems you want your cake and eat it.
The whole purpose of writing to the board, which is standard practice in any business is so that there is a permanent record of the request in the clubs boardroom file.
It would otherwise be a matter of contention if other board members say they didn't see the request as they were not able to attend a particular board meeting and were unaware of the request.
Good on you Brian

He could simply raise it at a board meeting and it's recorded in the minutes. It's not standard practice for executive board members to 'write' letters to the board. He is a board member. Well it's not the practice in my firm.

..and there may not be a board meeting for a while, therefore an email is appropriate.

The reply from the Club is irrelevant as far as I am concerned. Any decision on this will surely involve the person who runs the bar as well as the Board. I'm sure that person will have some sort of targets to meet and therefore should have input. Yes of course the Board can override that.
The fact is that Brian's comments are made in such a way that he regards himself as an outsider. He sees himself, as very aptly described above, as a "go between" and not "part of". That should not be what a full Board Member is. Brian should be saying that he has spoken to the parties involved and we have decided... He is and must act as though he is part of the decision as well as taking supporters views and requests with him into meetings. That does not have to mean he agrees with the decision. He is not an insider and an outsider. He cannot have it both ways. I'm not particularly blaming Brian for this but it does show the position for what it is.

Gashead75, point taken but I do find it odd how he worded it in much a formal way almost like he is stood back from his own board. I would say I raised it with Nick (or whoever is operationally in charge), they said no we can't afford it, I am pushing for more and will now raise it at a board meeting. Not I am now getting a petition. Just seems are very odd. A minor thing but just seems an odd way to proceed.

Most of them have been on Holiday for the last few weeks - as so many people on here have moaned about Maybe nobody here to reply ?? But don't let the facts get in the way of a bit of board bashing
