My view on toxic turd Barton as our manager is as a stats person that i am, i can tell you he is out of 34 permanent BRFC managers he currently sits in 10th place. Beating Ian Holloway, Don Megson, Bobby Campbell, Bobby Gould, Malcolm Allison, Ray Graydon, Paul Trollope and Alfred Homer to name just a few. He is coming to a crossroads IMO at the end of the season, has he taken us as far as he thinks he can or does he go another season..? Like him or not he has had many personal issues to deal with as well as our football club to lead, which of course upsets many supporters. IMO i think he has done well in patches and then ruins what has been achieved by upsetting a few apple carts and back to square one we go. I will always support any manager that comes into our great club as i believe they ALL want to do their best for us and them. Don Megson managed Rovers in 3rd and 2nd tier and Bobby Campbell in the 2nd tier... Barton has managed in the 4th and 3rd tier. Megson,Campbell,Holloway,Gould and Allison were better managers than Barton, he will also never manage teams in the top division or international teams as some of those have done. Will be interesting (genuinely) to learn how he came to his conclusion

Agree, but the stats don't lie, if you manage in the 2nd tier you will have a 2nd tier squad / budget for that division you are in. Any manager can only get the players in on the money he has at his disposal, would our manager get a vastly inproved budget if we were in the Championship next season ?

Well I suppose that the stats say that Tommy Tynan scored more league goals than Dennis Law but I know who I rate as the better player. I dont think its just about getting players in its about how you manage them, slagging people off in public isnt going to make some players want to give their best or help their confidence. Would the manager get a bigger budget for 2nd tier football ? I dont know, did Megson ?

Out of interest, sitting in 10th place, on what Stats have you based that? The win percentages of any manager of any football club are pretty good if they are 40% or over as a general guideline. The stats on the BRFC wiki page has all the details of every manager we have had and their win rate %. Bert Tann managed in 897 games with a 41.1% win rate, Alfred Homer is 652 & 37.3%, Albert Prince-Cox 295 & 39% and Paul Trollope 284 & 37.3%. Those 4 managers are the 4 longest serving in games wise that we have had..BTW David Williams has the best win rate of 108 games & 47.2%. No BRFC permanent manager has ever got to the 50% win rate ratio.

Any chance of publishing either a table or list to show how you have ranked them please BT? I ask to understand your reasoning not to pull it apart btw

Certain he would have had he managed in the post play off era

Agree, Tommy Tynan was a great goalscorer, in fact he played 646 games, scoring 259 goals = 0.400, Denis Law played 660, scoring 334 goals = 0.506. We will never know how much past budgets were, i would expect and sort of assume the budget would increase in the Championship for us.

If anybody ever got us into the Championship, those stats would not count on here, as only League One stats can be compared with recent managers.

toxic turd Barton predicts big things for homegrown Bristol Rovers talent after rising to challenge..by Sam Frost
toxic turd Barton had plenty of praise for Luca Hoole after the defender played a starring role in Bristol Rovers' win at Oxford United on Saturday, believing the Welshman is on the path to realising his "enormous" potential.
The 20-year-old was recalled to the starting lineup at the Kassam Stadium after four games on the bench and he rewarded his manager with a confident display at right-back that saw him contribute in attack and defence.
Clean sheets have been a precious commodity for the Gas this season, but academy graduate Hoole played his part in a shutout that underpinned Rovers' first win in seven weeks, and he capped his performance with a towering header to make it 3-0 with 15 minutes remaining before celebrating in front of the 1,437 travelling fans.
Barton was hesitant to focus on individuals in what he rated as an excellent team performance to end a seven-game winless run in all competitions, but when asked about Hoole's contribution he shared his delight with the Wales under-21 international's efforts.
"I thought he was excellent," Barton said. "It’s tough to single anyone out in a good team performance like that, but I thought Luca grew and grew and grew into the game.
"He dealt with (Yanic) Wildschut in the first half, who is a tricky opponent, and in the second half he really came into his own. The cherry on top of that is the goal he scores.
"I’m really pleased for him. He is a cracking young player and a pleasure to work with every day. If he keeps that attitude and that level of performance, he has got an enormous future."
Hoole has made 26 League One appearances this season, just three fewer than he made in League Two last season, but this has been a more challenging year for the defender.
Amid a shortage of centre-backs at the start of the season, Hoole found himself in an unfamiliar role in the middle of the back four. There were strong performances but also struggles that are all part of the learning curve, meaning he has bounced around from outside centre-half in a back three to right-back and right wing-back this season without nailing down a regular place in the starting XI.
In the autumn, Barton recognised Hoole's confidence had dipped for the first time since his breakthrough last season after a difficult run of games and the manager took him out of the firing line, leaving him out of the matchday 18 for three straight games. Since then, it has not been a linear return to form, with James Gibbons often starting ahead of him, but Saturday's performance staked his claim for a run in the team at right-back.
The three points lifted the Gas to 13th in the League One table with 41 points with 13 games remaining, cooling any simmering fears that their poor form could snowball into a relegation battle. Instead, the Gas are now 10 points clear of the bottom four.
Their recent poor form has been underpinned by moments of sloppiness and ill-discipline, but the Gas were refocused in Saturday's performance and they efficiently took care of business, with a Scott Sinclair penalty and Aaron Collins' close-range finish putting them two ahead at the interval against a team they shared a place at the bottom of the form table with before kick-off – with head coach Karl Robinson sacked after the game.
"We talked a lot this week about getting the basics right," Barton said. "If we take care of the basics, that gives us an opportunity to build a performance.
"We want to control the ball and play and on a tricky pitch we played at the right moments, but we also had a strategy and a game plan and I thought the lads executed that superbly.
"I must give enormous credit to the boys on the pitch. They were excellent and, as you point out, they had to weather a storm as you would expect. They have got some good players and they would have been disappointed going in 2-0 down.
"They asked questions in the second period, but everything they asked we had the antidote for. If it didn’t get blocked by our defenders, James Belshaw was there to throw his hands on it and make a comfortable save."

He attacks the space, bravely gets there first and makes a solid downwards connection. I think we'll see him become a real threat in the box at dead ball situations.

Ben Garner at 32.Strange appointment and when he had to abort his tenure due to a major family issue he was no better when he returned.Like Nathan Jones at Stoke his philosophies of statistics, percentages and theories simply didn't work with the players available. Remember we had two early games at Ipswich, league and League Cup and we were getting well beaten in one of them and with not long to go we were playing possession stuff in our own box. Coughlan whose style couldn't have been more contrasting took us to fourth at Ipswich and then promptly resigned!!! BG also made some awful decisions in the transfer market and was it him who released Tony Craig and Sercs?
