For those from our halcyon days of Eastville crowds of 25000 and 12000 season ticket holders the Bristol Rovers History Group are delighted to announce that a turnstile from the North Stand and 3 wooden seats have been donated to the Club. The turnstile had been lying in a Downend garden for two decades or more and was collected (its bloody heavy) and required 5 men to lift it. Cary Massey kindly offered to pick it up and refurbish it including removing five layers of paint before repainting it in blue and white. This relic turnstile and seats (not Cary)is hoping to be collected on Friday from his farm and transported and temporarily stored at the Quarters training ground before moving to the Mem and put in the soon to be constructed quiet garden by the BRSC cabin. A part of Eastville at the Mem. What could be better.

'[..,]whatsoever things [are] true, whatsoever things [are] noble, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] amiable, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue and if any praise, think on these things.' Philippians 4:8 St Paul obviously wasn't thinking of a mural on a toilet that depicts Ian Holloway, Paul Lambert and James Belshaw. However, the sentiment still applies...don't focus on the sub-standard doors, but instead focus on the (quite good) art. You'll be much happier. You have hit the nail on the head there but far too many people interpret the sentiment as meaning that if they concentrate solely on the good things then the bad things will miraculously go away. Like every other Gashead I love to enjoy the good things in life and have written about it on here. From watching humming birds hovering around the hibiscus blooms in my garden to having tears well up in my eyes when Ron Craig came onto the pitch after the vital win at Hartlepool in 2007. But to ignore the bad things or even worse pretend they don’t matter is not a recipe for long term happiness. One of my first ever posts on a Rovers forum mentioned weeds growing out of the terraces and bird’s mess covering the crash barriers. The response was “who cares, it’s the football that matters”. But I was making the point that if this was an acceptable standard at the sharp end, the customer end, what standards were being accepted at the top end of the club ? A few years later the dream of “Championship in five years” had vanished and the UWE Stadium never materialized. There are many reasons for those things happening but one of them was a lack of attention to detail. Indeed. St Paul's message is the exact opposite of the common interpretation (that you should be happy and everything will be well) - it is precisely because you will experience hardship, disillusionment and despair that you should focus on the good things. I seem to recall that other fans were considerably less touched by the pitch invasion by the former directors. Some even suggested it was a desperate attempt to grab the limelight. I imagine you must be foaming at the mouth when you see this lack of basic professionalism and attention to detail being reinvented as some kind of endearing trait?
