Now the dust has settled and we have had time to reflect on Breakspears threats to abandon Saturdays match my thoughts turn to what the consequences would have been. Undoubtedly we would have seen a response that would have involved levels of anger unprecedented with what was a brief outpouring of joy and the pitch already cleared as players were ordered down the tunnel, replaced with severe violent reactions and god knows what else. Four minutes plus added time with a cleared pitch replaced with the fear that everything we had achieved being flushed down the toilet by an arrogant over officious part time amateur throwing a benny. The time is long past whereby part time amateurs can hold such unacceptable power.

Regulations across the FA State that to " trespass into the pitch is not allowed, if " over excited people" continue to do this then expect repurcussions, it's not the first time the club have been warned about this behavior .... several clubs in the higher tiers have cancelled season tickets of fans who have trespassed onto be the pitch despite warnings given,..... and there is always the chance some meathead will attempt to whack a member of the opposing team,an allegation that has risen from Saturday' s scenario ..

He was doing his job as a professional, protecting the players. An outpouring of joy spilling on to the pitch can be forgiven but what I witnessed was bordering on moronic that went beyond that. I dont blame the ref at all.

I thought the ref was over zealous at the time.
I thought that until it transpired there are allegations of Scunthorpe's 17year old goalkeeper had been assaulted in a pitch invasion. I've only just seen this in news today
Now, on reflection, if those allegations are reported to the f a, he was completely correct as he had a duty of care to himself and the players/staff.

Only people at fault were those who went on the pitch, wish some would not look to put the blame others or say it was ok. The rest of the crowd behaved! Wonder how many who went on go every week?

I'm with the referee on this one. The 'threat' of abandoning the game is usually used to restore order. I don't think there was a serious threat to abandon and replay this game. Rovers will get hit with a fine. Very different when relegated Clubs have had pitch invasions. The referee has threatened to abandoned the game, 'officially' abandoned it, and once everyone has gone home, played out the game. This happened at Oldham this year and Leyton Orient when relegated to the National League a few years back.

I dont blame the ref at all. ref was 100% right. Elliot Anderson got bundled over, we could have injured one of our 'own' in doing it Everyone wants/wanted to enjoy the moment. Nobody get extra fan points for running on the pitch in the name of PASHUN

No, no and thrice no. Blame the brainless idiots who ran onto the pitch. Northampton could quite easily have scored again, meaning we would need another goal, but the with break we lost all momentum and the Scunthorpe players, who at that moment were shattered, were given fifteen minutes to get their breath back. The ref was just doing his job.

The O P is way out of order imo blaming the ref ... the vast majority of the crowd respected the situation.
The mindless idiots including grown men were clearly wrong and are probably the same ones who cause issues on other occasions.
They are thick to even comptemplate invading the pitch irrespective of situation.

Without the the pitch invasion, just imagine what the atmosphere would of been like as they kicked off after the seventh goal. Really believe we would have got an eighth or maybe more.

The 'Ball Boys' were the first to lose their discipline and race onto the pitch, their example opened the floodgates. Additionally the geezer in charge of the security team was lax, he should have set his yellow line across the front of the terrace up as soon as there was a chance that things might get a bit tense. Doing it after the game had restarted was a bit of, after the horse had bolted.

The crazy thing is, I was scared to death that we WOULD get an eighth, the halfwits would run on again, and the game would be abandoned. In 40 years of watching us play, I can`t remember not wanting us to score a goal. And a possible promotion clinching goal at that.
The club should identify as many as possible, and ban them for 5 years.

Interesting replies all missing the point. This character had obviously spooked both Wael and Joey for them both to plead with fans. I agree the invasion of the pitch should never have happened, however, if people consider that bad all hell would have broken out had this clown carried out his threat. He should have taken the players to the furthest corner of the pitch and allowed the stewards to do their job, had that been the case with the pitch already clearing the game could have continued without the extended delay. Again we see a pompous oaf an amateur interfering in a professional game not having the brain power to see further than his opinion of himself would allow. The time has long past with too much at stake to allow these amateurs to pollute a professional environment.

The point, the only point, is that our pillock fans shouldn’t have gone on the pitch after the goal. And it weren’t just kids by any stretch of the imagination.
Yes the ref probably over reacted. But we should never have given him the opportunity to make that decision.

Oh I can, £20.00 on a 4-2 scoreline at 38/1 and at 4-2 with 10 mins to go…
