Tonight BRISTOL RUGBY will play their final match at the Mem. Their home ground since 1921. Besides the loss of revenue will you miss their presence. Personally I am amazed the BRIS fans have had no comments saying they are unhappy at moving to BS3.

I saw one comment from someone on here (or the old forum) to say they wouldn't be going to the Rugby at Ashton. There may have been a few other comments about following Bath or Gloucester instead. A couple of people I know in Bristol have told me they won't be going again. I can't say I've really paid that much attention to it. Let's face it once Lansdown took them over it was always going to happen. Would there have been any point in complaining?

i wonder how much the cost of pitch work, employing matchday staff and general up keep of a 2 sport pitch/stadium matches up with the amoubnt of revenue Rovers recive from hosting the Rugby club?
Whilst i wish Bristol RFC fans all the best, ive lost any attachment to the club as they have become the rugby version of Modern football clubs.. buying there way to promotion on the back of a tax dodging owner... for the fans i hope they turn it around , for rugby as a whole and as it would cost the guernsey tax dodger a small fortune i hope they fail massively!

The Mem field was poor quite often this season. It seems to me that sometimes the grass was left 'long' and I assume this was so it could deal with the battering it received from the two sports'
Darrel Clark will want passing football played at a quick tempo,so the shorter the grass the better.
So,in this way the rugby club will not be missed at all, infact we're better off without them.
Financially I don't know, but if we were to win games the DC way and challenge,we might make lost money back.

drunk_and_leprechaun-1970It would be a lot higher if they managed to return to the Premier league which looks unlikely this season but I will be sat by my radio cheering them on tonight.

All 12,000 tickets have been sold and it is being televised on Sky Sports if you're a subscriber.
Bristol need to overcome a 19 point deficit from the 1st leg, for promotion to the Premiership. It's going to be a tough one again, against London Welsh.
End of an era at The Mem'
Come on Bris!

How much have they cost us on the pitch - because of the pitch? Probably more of a rhetorical question but we have all seen how bad it has been at times in the winter. Joint sports can work if you invest in the pitch (Desso) but The Mem certainly ain't that!

As a supporter of both for around 45 years, I am gutted that Bris are going to Ashton. Should they overturn the 19 point deficit tonight, which is highly unlikely, Premiership rugby next season will make a trip to AG under Lansdown's ownership, slightly more palatable. If they stay in the Championship it will severely test my loyalty. The match experience there is abysmal, both before, during, and after matches.
There is also a strong rumour that Lansdown wants Bristol to play in red!! That would be the final straw for me, and I would NEVER go again.

Don't think it did a certain club over the Bridge too much good this season!

I imagine that won't take long to come to fruition. He did it almost immediately with Bristol Academy so I reckon it'll be before the new season or the one after. Bristol City RFC anyone?

Whilst I followed Rovers to Ashton after the Eastville fire, I won't be following Bristol to Ashton, but the numbers of similar cases will be small. Rugby crowds in general will fluctuate depending on success on the field. A successful Bristol at Ashton could theoretically draw more than if performances were the same at the Mem - so the move is understandable. The same could be said if they came to the UWE as planned, but Landsdown's extra investment would not have happened if Bristol had come to the UWE. To answer the original question - whilst there are some benefits in terms of state of the pitch, the drop in income is significant for Rovers.

If not this season, they will be promoted within 1-2 years. Imagine the same in football. Win the league by a country mile, then be denied promotion by losing in the play-offs. I can't understand why the opportunity to get into the Premiership is so limited.

I also will not be following them to Trashton. If UWE proceeds, we wont be needing them with the other money spinning ventures, and a half tidy pitch as well, without them. Good luck to them.
