www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2021/november/martyn-starnes-resigns-as-bristol-rovers-ceo/Bristol Rovers Football Club can confirm that Martyn Starnes has resigned as CEO and Director and we have mutually agreed that he will leave the football club on 30 November 2021. We would like to place on record our thanks to Martyn for all of his hard work, loyalty and dedication over the past three and a half years, especially for his determination in overseeing the delivery of a first class training facility for the first team during the pandemic. He departs with the best wishes of the club and the best of luck in his future endeavours. Martyn said, “For personal reasons I feel it is the right time for me to move on but I’d like to sincerely thank Wael Al Qadi for the opportunity to work for a genuine family and community based club to which he has made and continues to make an extraordinary commitment. I’ve enjoyed an excellent relationship with him and wish him every success. The last two seasons have been extremely challenging given the unprecedented circumstances created by the pandemic and the unexpected and hugely disappointing relegation from League 1 last season. I hope the Club can bounce back quickly and continue pursuing the objective of Championship football UTG.” www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2021/november/tom-gorringe-appointed-bristol-rovers-ceo/Club President, Wael Al Qadi said, “I’m delighted to announce the promotion of Tom Gorringe to the CEO position. Tom is a trailblazer and over the years that I have worked with him he has proven to be hard working, efficient, honest and popular amongst colleagues and the fan base. He has successfully implemented many new projects at the club and has impressive leadership qualities. I have tasked him to oversee a complete restructure of the organisation, something that is necessary to ensure that the club is operating to the highest possible standards. I wish Tom the best of luck in what I hope will be an exciting new era for the club. UTG!” Tom said, “Since the first day that I stepped foot at this club I have been struck by the potential and been determined to play my part in unlocking it. This is a special club and there is nowhere else I would rather be at this stage of my career than here working on this project. To be leading the club during such an exciting time is an honour and I will do everything within my power to help make us as successful as we can be. I would like to thank Wael for all of the support he has given me and that faith that he has shown me in offering this opportunity at what is an exciting time for the club. By working together, there are no limits to what this club can achieve and I hope that under my leadership the staff, players, supporters and all stakeholders can pull in the same direction to help us progress.”

Perhaps it’s as Starnes says, it’s been a difficult time with Covid and he’s just decided to call it a day. Istr he’s been poor on a few occasions and despite what we all joke about us being what we are, the post of CEO at a League 1/ League 2 club needs someone at the top of their game. It’s never seemed that Starnes was at the top of his game or the best fit perhaps with him and his links to other West Country clubs so not a surprising move. And to be fair to Starnes with his illnesses it’s never appeared that he was ever totally well and able to do what was needed. I hope he’s able to get some time to make a full recovery health-wise. As a club we now move on.
As for TG, good luck to him. I’ve always had a swift response when he’s been contacted. He’s a visible presence on match days and he appears to communicate well with supporters. Of course he’s probably made mistakes but when you consider his relative youth that’s not surprising. I expect we’ve all made our mistakes away from public gaze but it looks like he’s learnt from them. I hope this is one of Wael’s better appointments! Fingers crossed it will be.
Good luck Tom Gorringe.
UTG!

I assume we've all expected Starnes's departure since he stopped saying a word. One wonders also whether his long-awaited split infinitive borne resignation, was wrapped too in a fine merseyside accent.

Martyn Starnes going should be a surprise to no-one. Poor in interviews. I was never quite sure what he did. Part of a poor senior management team that still needs strengthening. Tom Gorringe promoted to CEO. Mmm... not sure about that - but let's give him the benefit of the doubt. Let's wait and see. He is good at communicating. (Though he's stopped communicating with me directly since we hired B***** and I made my feelings known)...

Naturally Wareham, agreed, but we seriously need a fc singing from the same sheet.Too often it seems ego, self interest and insecurities have seen SS Rovers heading for stormy water or the doldrums. 👍

Starnes. Non disclosure agreement. Gorringe. Bambi's gonna implode. What's that expression about rising to level of our incompetence? At least this bloke will do it with an imbecilic grin on his face.

I hope he does well in the position as I have concerns as to whether Wael is in a position to continue to service losses ITRO £3,000,000 per year.

Congrats to the appointment of TG whom has earned the role of CEO and all the privilege's it boasts. Bye bye Starnesy and thanks for what you done (?) Only time will tell whether this appointment is wise or not. We must have one of the youngest CEO in EFL?
An interesting time to announce it.
JAB temporararily on form, the on pitch form has risen, TG gets 2 massive promotions in one year.....? Bambi has seen better years methinks...

Maybe, with your retail and commercial experience, you could apply for Tom Gorringe's old role. You are always encouraging us not to stand on the sidelines, to be brave, take the bull by the horns etc.

You are always encouraging us not to stand on the sidelines, to be brave, take the bull by the horns etc. I wasn't going to mention this again, but as you've decided to be invidious, I may as well, just for old time's sake. Have I ever even suggested that I wanted to do the job that Gorringe does? The answer is no. Have I said many times that it appeared that he was spreading himself too thinly and that may be reflected in some of the dreadful mistakes made? Yep, I have. Did you fall at the very first hurdle, when you met the first tiny bit of resistance from someone who it now appears Wael may not have seen eye-to-eye with? You sure did.

Vaughan baiting Bambi may entertain some. But suggesting another is all mouth and no trousers is another delicious irony bomb.
