We really don't deserve this lead. 3 points but thought we were the worse of 2 poor teams Belshaw and Taylor good (Rovers have previous with tall centre backs called Taylor). Clarke took his chance and showed some signs of having a football brain Tactically little evidence of football brains tho

On the few occasions we got the ball down and played (including the goal), we looked good and much better than Crawley. However - we didn't do that for most the game, just lumping it forward and gifting them numerous chances down the flanks. Crawley will feel aggrieved not to have got anything from the game.

All hail the emperor and his ability to predict the future!! Barrow a - should get something EMPEROR SUPERBUS WAS RIGHT Crawley relegation candidates h - we will win EMPEROR SUPERBUS WAS RIGHT Pool a - toughie, but why not a draw Orient h - covid victims Harrogate went there and won, so a home win Walsall relegation candidates a - we will win Swindon h - doesn’t bear thinking about losing, there will be loads of aggression to Ben and lots of pro B***** support in this noisy derby fixture, I predict win Carlisle a - why not at least point 7 unbeaten in league taking 15 from 21 points.

Crawley goal coming here. We're leaving gaps down the flanks and they've got far too much space around the box. We're not pressing at all. “Crawley goal coming here” 😆 To be fair Phil, pretty tidy on the ground from Crawley, but like Oldham end product very weak. You are right, the naff set up with 3 centre backs and wing backs not great at filling defensive space (Anderson 3/10 today) meant we were never comfortable with the “We're leaving gaps down the flanks and they've got far too much space around the box”. Crawley might go out the league with Oldham, the two home 1.0 very different in higher division against quality side the space we give?

Crawley looking slightly more likely to score with balls into the box from the flanks. We seem to be bypassing our midfield and playing long cross-field balls to switch play. We did that, all match long against Cheltenham on Tuesday evening. Against a young makeshift defence, it paid dividends. Today, against experienced league defenders, it was a waste of time. No way did we deserve to beat Crawley.

Just got back...
Well, well well...a win at the Mem with an unbeaten run, a clean sheet and a few noticeable performances.
M o m definitely Stoke bloke, he helped his sometimes ponderous ball watching defenders so much and was everywhere along the back line.
Second close m o m was Belshaw. For me, I've seen enough to be confident in his keeping abilities, command of area, shot stopping and general approach. He inspires confidence. Distribution sometimes goes amiss, but by our standards I'm comfortable with his inclusion almost to the point of in front of Jaaks.
Leon Clark is exactly the type of forward we've been yearning for since JCH departed....you can see he has quality with his first touch. Awesome size and it hides his ability. Encouraging start.
Saunders running through everything.
Some good positives.
But ... Why are we so defensive v opponents that (until we invited them on to us with Nicholson going off) didn't offer much? Yes, they had their chances but I'm disappointed we we'rnt more attacking. Especially at home. Especially with our bench.
Credit to players and management for carving out a win, excellent, every GasHead can enjoy their weekend with England and Gas win within a few days....bit I fear our mid field isn't pumping on full cylinders. Too many unforced errors, not enough movement when we have the ball up front (forcing us to play sideways then inevitably back) and very often left with counter attack of 6 left inside our own half.
I'm still not sure about Coutts. (?) Evans I couldn't see any contribution except a great cross for Clarke goal. Grant broke up some play but his easy passing was frustratingly wayward. Nicholson anonymous. I'm not sure these all function as a team, rather than a series of individuals....we looked to have no gameplan when our mid was in possession, so often diagonally hoofed it to bypass...
Hey a good win v injury ravished squad, we'll take that, but a lot of work to do in all areas to become a force in this division.
Marking in our box. Passing and movement forward. Partnerships in attack.
On to a very tough fixture up north ...a completely different proposition. UptheGas!

And Belshaw made several outstanding saves, to preserve our lead.

Why did we keep kicking the ball out and /or to no one ? We looked disjointed and lacking in game plan, never pushed up and invited them on, a better team would have done some damage. 3 points but not deserved IMO. I don’t think I have seen us win yet look so poor, only the defence and Clark looked good, it was hard to watch

The lack of attacking intent, is hard to watch. Even when we caught them on the break as the game progressed, we never really committed players forward. Good result, but poor performance.

Very good win today. I felt Crawley were the better team today, and had the better chances.
If it wasn't for James Balshaw in goal, we would have lost this game. He was the difference today.
Leon Clarke looked very useful up front, lovely headed goal to mark his debut as well as some clever hold up play and touches.
Connor Taylor was excellent at the back, making many critical interceptions and having a solid game throughout. Anthony Evans looked lively, some nice pieces of skill and good attacking wing play.
I felt we were very poor in the first half, and looked better in phases during the second half.
A very welcome three points today, just what we needed on the back of Tuesday's win. I fell that better opposition would have beaten us easily today, but a step in the right direction. One game at a time...

3 points we didn't deserve, will do nicely.
Other than the 2 minutes at the beginning of the second half, that was a dire game.

A clean sheet would perhaps be a sign of improvement. 1 0 to Rovers, but I won't be too disappointed if it's a 0 0. Well predicted that fella,

Match Report From The BRFC Site:
Rovers grabbed three points with a win at The Mem over Crawley Town.
The visitors had plenty of the ball early on in the game and almost saw their efforts rewarded after Tyler Frost's shot was well saved by Belshaw in the Rovers goal.
The Red Devils almost had the ball in the Rovers net on the half-hour mark, a bouncing ball in the Rovers box dropped awkwardly for Belshaw who managed to claim the ball in the end. Rovers had the chance of the half on the stroke of half-time after captain for the day Sam Finley chipped the ball into Sam Nicholson through on goal but the ball wouldn't drop for him to edge an effort on goal.
The Gas roared into life in the second half with halftime substitute and debutant Leon Clarke nodding home his first goal for Rovers after a floated cross sent in by deadline day signing Antony Evans.
Rovers came close to doubling their lead after a corner crossed in by Finley found the head of Connor Taylor, whose powerful headed effort was sent straight at Morris in the Crawley goal.
The goal seemed to fire up the visitors and saw them created a flurry of chances in the second half. Belshaw was more than equal to the visitor's efforts saving Nadesan's close-range effort.
Belshaw was called into action again after brilliantly tipping Ashford's bending shot around the post. After a string of Crawley, chances Rovers had the chance to double the lead through Harvey Saunders after he got the better of the Crawley defender but dragged his shot agonisingly wide of the Crawley net.
The visitors came close to drawing level late on in the game after Powell's effort was saved by Belshaw again.
Rovers: James Belshaw, Josh Grant, Alfie Kilgour, Sam Finley (C), Aaron Collins, Sam Nicholson (73'), Connor Taylor, Harry Anderson, Harvey Saunders, Cian Harries, Antony Evans (65')
Subs: Jed Ward, Paul Coutts (65'), Nick Anderton (73'), Leon Clarke, Brett Pitman, Sion Spence, Alex Rodman
Crawley Town: Glenn Morris, Archie Davies, George Francombe (C), Tony Craig, Jack Powell, Tom Nichols (67'), Tyler Frost (67'), Sam Ashford (85'), Nicholas Tsaroulla, Jack Payne, Jake Hessenthaler
Subs: Blondy Nna-McNulty, Owen Gallagher, Ashley Nadesan (67'), Alex Pattle (85'), Kwesi Appiah (67'), Amrit Bansal-McNulty.

Totally agree alftupper It’s the first time I have seen the crowd leave after a win and not have a buzz to it. If this is what we can expect then I’m not paying to watch it. I only went yesterday due to having a free ticket. The funny bit if I actually nodded off as I was in the posh seats, in the upper East stand. It’s awful to watch but Leon Clark looked like the striker we need but was given nothing and was up front, on his own while the rest were embedded in the middle of our own half. Evolution and DNA or even pretty football, have put us where we are and it’s a bad place. That was the luckiest 3 points I have seen us get

Where do you think we're going wrong Emperor? I can see our plan (quick long diagonal ball) but it's very predictable and causing Crawley no problems at all. Why not push through midfield? Its not going wrong. There will be no arguing with 15 points from 21. No one will say it’s unconvincing and boring bring cocko back. We’re you there ? I can’t help but question your damascene vision because we look bloody awful and that was the spawniest win I have ever seen. We did nothing as a unit and , from the vantage point in the upper East stand, we had no real set up and looked like young school kids, stood in groups. The only time we saw a set up was at kick off and when we kicked off, after the goal. We would have been dicked by a team with some footballing nous. Our defence did well and GK saved us. Say what you will but that was pure luck and Crawley were the better side, we got lucky, no more and no less

The pitch was superb but we haven’t got a team worthy of it.

Absolutely nailed it but my biggest frustration was seeing pro players just kick the ball out of play, when under no real pressure or pass it into space where none of our players were and because we only had Clark up top. Amateurish doesn’t cover it. Give him time I hear but do these players have the requisite talent to play as a unit or is B***** telling them to play as they are ? Either way it was awful and people left with no buzz as most know it was a jammy win.
