You must be as old as me. Although Bob Lee and Chick Bates didnt really do that well for us did they? As I said 'Mick Channon,Bob Lee and Chic Bates amongst others didnt' (do OK). I cant remember how old Gary Emmanuel was when he arrived but he was disappointing too and my mate told me that 'Miah Dennehy is brilliant' hmmm. Could probably have a thread of players who didnt live up to our expectations just in the 70s and 80s but it would be too depressing. With Miah, nobody had absolutely any idea what he was going to do, and I'm sure that included himself. Brought many a smile, though not always for the skill level...

One Christmas period Miah's father came over from Ireland. The drink was flowing and allegedly Miah went into a game well oiled...... and scored a hat-trick.

The mistake was not getting him p1ssed before all the other games he played then. Was it Swansea that he scored the hat trick against ? Seem to remember that he hit the headlines for off the pitch incidents after leaving Rovers.

You are correct, he was left with life changing injuries after being assaulted in Ireland. His attacker received a 6 year sentence.

I looked Dennehy up too and he got 6 months for beating his wife up !

Reparation payments might go someway to coming to terms with our Bristol Rovers past.

Brett can hit direct free kicks from 20 to 25 yards or so. Good penalty taker too. i’ve always like Pitman, I like this signing. 🙂 Wondering though how he fits in to a 4 3 3? Do we get the best out of him with a partner, so 2 up? In 4 3 3, say Hanlon left Rodman right, does it play to Pitmans weaknesses in the middle on his own? Also needs to be said, if he was with us all last season we still would have been relegated, it’s going to need a lot more creativity from the team from last season to compete this season. And is that the end of the Marquee signings now, we won’t get an even better forward coming in.

Hmm well due his 'infamous' lack of work rate (not sure how literal some of the reports are) and his finishing ability I think I would have him mostly playing in the forward middle section, going no further wide than the penalty area.Whatever the formation.Agogo use to run like mad to compensate for Walkers lack of pace eg,with Walker enjoying a few goals. At least in the 4th tier. Yes,we need alot more creativity. No idea if there's another 'big name' forward signing. You might think when everyone is fighting fit,we won't have a bad team now.

We seem to have bodies to try up front at least. Though a lot of them seem to be young, and not many goals at this level. For all the wailing at last seasons forwards, under all managers throughout the season we didn’t create many great openings each game. I watched every minute of every game, to me The chance stats was mainly half chances than great ones. Rodman actually was a class apart when he appeared, in terms of that bit of magic that opened things up. To be honest Nicholson blew hot and cold, often went missing in games. We played so much of last season with wing backs. Ehmer picked up his man of matches under Tis playing as target winger. I don’t have a problem slipping into good old fashioned 4 4 2 and taking it to opponents with two wingers to create proper chances for the forwards. We didn’t do 4 4 2 enough last season. That could probably bring the best out of Pitman.

Chic Bates looked about 60 when he joined us.

His dozen goals might just keep us up Excellent point....if he was with us last season, 11 goals might have been the difference between up or down. I'll settle for similar if not better, this campaign. Another breaking of the Bristol divide? Another legend akin to Trevor Morgan in the making? Only time will tell and as ever the jury is out for me until otherwise.....but in interim, welcome to The Gas where once he was sh!te, but now he's alright.....glad you seen sense, man.
