Surely it’s sew? However, back to the game. I went with my mate and our two 15 year old lads. Throughout the game the officials were awful. Just before the corner that led to the pen the lineswoman inexplicably gave a free kick right in front of us after Hoole, who was superb, had beaten 2 players and was on the way to crossing a dangerous ball into their box. The stupid cow flagged when the 2nd player threw himself down and the ball was quickly moved forward and they got the corner and pen. Can’t comment on the red card or pen awards because they were right up the other end. It did seem to me the ref was itching to give everything Mansfield’s way, a real lower league homer. Let’s be fair, we try and influence the ref our way at the Mem. I thought we did OK, obviously missing several players but we competed and I think there’s more to come from the squad. We left after the pen went in because our train was at 1550. For those that don’t know, the railway station is perhaps 500 yards from the ground and visible on the hill. We walked out of the away end to cross the retail park and walk up to the station and outside were met by a phalanx of Police. We were stopped and told we had to wait for a Police escort to the station. I told the cop in front of me we wanted to go to the station and he refused to let us past. I told him our train was in a few mins and he said we wouldn’t be getting that train. The next wasn’t for an hour and I tried to walk past. I was pushed back and told to wait or I would be arrested. I asked why we were being illegally detained. What legislation they were using etc etc and that we would be safely on the station before the Mansfield fans even got to the area behind the away end. My mate was making the same comments to other officers, as were a number of other Rovers fans. One bloke with a lad pointed out his car and said he just wanted to get in it and drive home! Realising I was not getting anywhere I walked along the line until I found an older cop. I asked if I could walk to the station and he said of course. I went back, pulled my mate away from his discussion and the 4 of us walked past this sensible guy and went to the station without incident. We stood on the platform and watched as, a few minutes later there was an almighty kerfuffle on the road outside the ground where a huge body of Rovers fans were boxed in by Police while some Mansfield’s idiots were trying to have a pop. There were sirens blaring and other Police vehicles could be seen screaming up. We got on the train and left them to it. The whole problem was called by the stupid Police, kettlling all the Rovers fans so the Mansfield idiots could come and have go. If we had meekly done as we were told we would have got caught up in all that Sh1t and would have missed our train. I don’t know if they’re not used to dealing with large away followings, but I thought the Police operation was a shambles. Dictionary you reap what you sow - meaning you eventually pay for your mistakes. Sorry if this seems pedantic but I’m fascinated by languages and the use of words To be honest I was 50:50 whether it was sew or sow when reaping and managed to stitch myself up with sew!

I don’t think anyone would suddenly become a Gashead just because B***** is manager but I do think his presence has emboldened those fans who revel in the “us against the world” mentality which is very bad for Rovers. It encourages the blame culture and the feeling that the constant under performance is not because of our own failings but because everyone is conspiring against us. You can see how B***** feels that way about himself but the difference is that when his time at Rovers comes to an end he will move on to his next media engagement but where will we be ? I agree with you, B***** is probably developing a siege mentality as you say "us against the World" ("and if we stick together the World had better watch out"). That is quite a well known ploy and it might work for a while,if it does then B***** will move on,the club will return to being a 'family club' (in some peoples minds) the players, manager and fans will all return to being saints and angels and we will all live happily ever after. I hope that when B***** leaves it will still be possible to reconstruct the club in a sensible way. The club culture is a huge topic to discuss but I don’t think “family club” came much into the thinking of Don Megson, Gerry Francis or Darrell Clarke because they were focused on making Rovers as efficient as possible so we would become winners. The “family club” is a tag we can use and be proud of once we are successful.

B***** didnt just rock up and say "right I am the manager here now", he was appointed by the owner, when B***** leaves I wonder who the next appointment will be? I dont particuarly want B***** as manager but whilst he is I hope that he/the team do well.

No it doesnt ,however a few years ago there was a flag mentioned on this forum with 'Gloucester gas' and a picture of Fred West on it... B***** being the manager might be celebrated by some people but the idea that anyone else is going to start going to Rovers matches because of his notoriety is preposterous. I think that playing in a lower division this season will bring out the "bully" in some of our fan base, they see themselves as being the big fish - particularly at away games. . I haven't seen a photo the "cigar" flag - very poor taste if it does exist, certainly not doing B***** any favours - I'd actually rather like it if he went into the crowd and set it on fire.

Everyone wants the team to do well because when B***** leaves Rovers need to be in a position to attract the best manager we possibly can. But look at what he left behind at Fleetwood Town. www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/sport/football/fleetwood-towns-fresh-approach-going-into-the-new-season-3336566

I read they want to develop young hungry players. Our mission statement has changed to let's get promotion.

Not sure what you are saying. I read they want to develop young hungry players. Our mission statement has changed to let's get promotion. My interpretation of the article is that “let’s get promotion” is exactly what B***** told the Fleetwood owner which is why he was persuaded to let B***** sign the type of players they did. But it didn’t work, B***** and his team left, and now Fleetwood have realized the best way to achieve success is to make the most efficient use of the resources they have which in their case means the Poolfoot Farm Sports Complex. By allowing B***** to have a free hand we are letting him repeat the mistakes he made at Fleetwood.

The implication is that it's not hugely competitive Anyone know what L2 pays post-Covid?

Incredible success when you think that it was only sixteen years ago they won the North West Counties League. But it looks as though having been in League 1 for six seasons without being able to continue that momentum and achieve another promotion they are now revising their strategy.

So their max pay in L1 is £130k a year. The implication is that it's not hugely competitive Anyone know what L2 pays post-Covid? The manager said on Friday that this seasons playing budget is £1.8 - 1.9 million. If we assume Rovers aren’t paying anything for the loanees and the 13 young players cost, say, £300 000pa in total that leaves £1.6 million for the remaining 21 senior squad players which is an average of £1465 per week. It sounds low to me.

That is low as an average, the wage bill is published on the club's accounts at Companies House if you look hard enough, Taylor was on £3k pw back in the day, Bennett £4k and Rodman £2k. Some will be paid higher than others of course.

Swiss' 1,450 pw is c. 75k pa That's a league below the contracts above, and post-covid If Rodders was on £105k in L1, as a senior squad member, swiss' number doesn't look too far wrong as an average to me

Some interesting content about poor planning, recruitment and how they plan to redress it. They never name B***** but it’s clear what they have said.
