According to one website, Salford are favourites to win L2 this season, followed by Bristol Rovers and Mansfield Surprised Bradford and Leyton Orient aren’t tipped higher to be honest. Bradford are a massive club and have playoff winning managers Derek Adams and I’ve been impressed by the business orient have conducted under experienced manager Kenny Jacket. DC seems to be putting together a tidy side at Port Vale, having been given a clean slate to do what he likes with. Tough league if you’re aiming to be towards the top but I hope we’ll be there or thereabouts.

Marvellous Clarke moved jobs at the same time Sackman Al Qadi replaced decent Tisdale with criminal B*****. Maybe Clarke had lost his way and needed to be replaced with Coughlan, but after Garner failed and Tisdale's improvements were deemed unsatisfactory, I cannot see how chasing Clarke's return was not the obvious best choice. We need a manager who can get us promoted from to the 3rd division at the first attempt, and not long ago he did exactly that. Port Vale are fortunate to have such a manager.

Can't wait for the weekend, that buzz is back.
I am a glass half full kinda guy.
I can't imagine Rovers doing anything other than win L2, give the fans something to shout about again.
Something to be proud of.
Leave the rest of the division in its wake.
Players that have the hunger and passion to push themselves to the limit and beyond.
Late winners, clearances off the line, blocks, hard tackles, long range goals, tap ins, saved pens, scored pens, exciting flying wingers, players who are prepared to leave everything out on that pitch and play with heart, skill and a winning mentality.
Mansfield doesn't get much harder, bring it home boys
UP THE GAS!! See you in L1 next season.

Looking forward to L2 highlights on Quest, taping it (do I still say that) and watching Sunday morning and forwarding on Championship (unless City lose) and now L1 too. We'll get our own rushed section at the end, but they do give it a decent coverage.

I’m not the best to talk about pre-season because I’m always a half-full glass, optimistic gashead who thinks we’ll have a good season, always. This year I’m keeping quiet until I’ve seen them actually play before saying too much. But I’ll say what I often bang on about. Prepare well for Saturday, win if possible then start again for the Stevenage match. Don’t get ahead of ourselves and take one match at a time. Win and move on. Fingers crossed. UTG!

Thanks for the same optimism, especially after the scars of last season. After Matchday 1 last season we had 1 point, who would have thought we would average less than that per game after drawing at, and almost beating, Sunderland

3.5 hours until kick off of the most previewed game of every season.
The Sky Sports app is not clever enough to guess that I am not following L1 anymore...

Football is full of late goals nowadays isn't it. At all kinds of levels of the game.
3 games in league 2 were decided past 90 minutes, with 3 more goals coming at 88 mins, 2 of which also decided their respective games.
That says a lot about both teams, that they can deliver or falter when the pressure is on.
I am sure that everyone who conceded late will score late to win sometime this season and vice versa, because that's football. Rovers had a knack of scoring late goals under Clarke which showed relentless strength of character to go til the end. We need to see that back.
Of course nothing concrete can really be gleaned from Saturday, the next 9 or so games will do that.
Swindon were the only team to win by more than 1 goal. I had a small smile seeing that result, as I think most of us wish Ben Garner well, as long as it doesn't interfere with Rovers.
At least we had the guts to take the plunge on him first..
Rovers had the highest away fans attendance of the weekend, also scored the best goal.
L2 got royally shafted by technical issues on the Quest show this week.
We weren't the only relegated team to lose with Rochdale losing to Harrogate, gifting them an early 2 goal lead only to equalise and then lose it at the death. Harrogates fans saw their first league match and win, it's important to note that.

Two more games have come and gone for some teams, Harrogate have only played one so far, bit weird.
Rovers finally got off the mark, with a deflected header. Important we don't lose Saturday.
FGR are the only team to have a 100% record from 3 games, 8 teams are currently unbeaten, 9 are yet to win, Oldham being the only team on zero points.
Mansfield are making me feel a bit better, in fact, Rovers were only minutes away from being unbeaten this season themselves.
Swindon signed Jonny Williams, which I find amazing, until you see his connection to Garner.
I must confess to not knowing a single Oldham player.
Bradford had 17,000 for a home game.
Is Oldham v Newport some kind of derby???
Barrow's manager was sent off and Exeter have not scored this season. They play Rovers on Saturday..

Not a good weekend for Rovers which I will skirt over for obvious reasons as I know it has been done to death elsewhere. FGR have had a great start to the season under Rob Edwards and Crawley really got in the way of it on Saturday. Bradford had an amazing late win at Mansfield. Harrogate had 2 wins in 4 days to shoot right up the table with a game in hand. Their fans must be jubilant as they can see their team in the flesh for the first time in the league. I am secretly rooting for Swindon, especially now with Jonny Williams causing trouble like he did on the weekend at Salford. What better way to shove it down their throats after the disagreement on the benches than to come away with a 1-0 win and all 3 points. Nigel Clough had a bit of his Dad about him on Saturday calling out one of his own defenders after their defeat to Bradford, saying ‘he used to play with at Grimsby which may explain why he didn’t get a tackle in all afternoon’ and people have criticised JB for doing that on this forum. Hartlepool were also notable winners this weekend beating struggling Walsall 2-0 FGR, Bradford, Harrogate and Carlisle are still unbeaten going into match day 5, with Port Vale, Scunthorpe, Sutton, Walsall and Oldham yet to win. Oldham have no points and FGR are the only team in the EFL with a 100% record after 4 games (Harrogate after 3). They have scored 13 goals already, but the meanest defence is Tranmere who have only conceded 1 goal. Trouble is, they have only scored 1 as well and lie in 14th place with 5 points. Hats off to Exeter though, their 4-goal 25 minute salvo will unlikely happen again this season, shame it had to be in front of our 1,200 suffering…I mean travelling fans. Rip it up and start again, or just sell Baldwin. UTG

I was told that , even though the official gate was around 6K, the mem was rocking V Oldham but even the most positive if my rovers friends and who writes in the programme, said Oldham were bloody awful. When the official gate for the first game was read out, I did think just over 7K was around 1K under what it actually was. You can usually get a rough guess looking at the Thatchers End from the East Stand, and it looked pretty full to me. One giveaway is how busy the far side gets nearest the West Stand, and there didn't appear to be any gaps there. I've read on facebook groups that some people felt cramped in the Thatchers End and asked to be moved to the Family Enclosure. And there were reports that the gates were opened by stewards before kick-off due to problems at the turnstiles, which lead to many probably getting in free and not being counted in the attendance figures. Opening the gates could have created a far worse problem than just losing money.

Match Day 5
Rovers end the week with a record of 1-1-3, but a poor goal difference of -5 already, largely due to the Exeter defeat, puts them bottom of anyone with 4 pts, 1 place above the trap door.
Drawing 1-1 away to a team playing with 10 men for an hour is not a good result, but a point is ok in the long run.
In fact, the same thing happened with Harrogate, Exeter equalising while down to 10. Exeter looked a shadow of the week before as well.
FGR still lead, having been beaten at home by their old enemy DC, as Vale picked up their first win courtesy of 2 early goals by the evergreen Jamie Proctor.
Bradford also suffered their first defeat, 2-0 at Leyton O.
Swindon quietly moved up to 4th, 10 pts from 5 games, a great start for Ben and hia roundabout boys. Assist for Williams too.
Mansfield have lost their last 2, showing more work for Our Nigel than he might have anticipated.
Hartlepool have had a good start, 3 wins from 4. They look strong at home.
Saltford finally won, there are a lot of other teams doing not much in the middle having drawn 2 or 3 already, Colchester and Scunthorpe spring to mind.
Tranmere have signed Nicky Maynard in an attempt to improve the goals for column.
Oldham won at Sutton, who therefore must be crap.
No ex gas players scored unless I am mistook.
Luke James not even in the Barrow squad..
