It's such a shame we've missed the best opportunity to stay up.....we have been in control of our own destiny, now we're not. We still have to rely on other results around us, no matter what we do. It cannot be stressed enough, relegation will lead to many more negative impacts. The implications of a relegation at this time could be disastrous, it will take years, if not a generation to get us back to GC days...... staying up is paramount for our future. Agree it's out of our hands but effectively we are in control of our own destiny...win all 7 and we'll avoid the drop 3-2-1 you are back in the room.

If we win all 7 remaining games, our 5 competitors won't. Same probably applies to winning 6 or 5 games. Indeed, 4 wins may well save us. Agree with the other points, but it still is within our hands - we have to win as many games as we can.

Yes, that's technically true down to the fate of the end of season fixtures.....which we weren't to know about, until now. My point was, until we fell into the relegation zone, we had opportunity to affect change by playing teams around us - which we did - and didn't win. Now we have to play everyone above us. And on past form, apart from mathematically being able to stay up we are now faced with 7 days to save our season that looks much harder if not impossible....

Tomorrow's game could be the most important match for many a year - Win it and we're back in the mix, lose it and we have one foot in the grave.
Victory against the Don's and a point or better at Northampton, who are at Hull tomorrow then following our Saturday encounter with them , they travel to Peterborough, were iam sure JCH, will try and help us out of a jam, whille we have two home games - CHANCES!
However, so fine are the margins - Defeat against Don's, and we will be on a life support machine, the reason being, Northampton may well be down with us, they nevertheless have won four out of the last five home games - DOOMED
24 hours and counting......................

And on past form, apart from mathematically being able to stay up we are now faced with 7 days to save our season that looks much harder if not impossible.... Okay, your middle para makes sense and is understandable. But it doesn't cover not being in control of our own destiny. I would say that in any season, with 7 games to go, being 3 points from safety, in a group of 6 trying to avoid the bottom 4, you can't say we're not in control of our own destiny. Firstly it doesn't take into account that teams will be playing each other. Then, by nature of it being a relegation battle (even though the thought is all the teams are battling for every point), they will all be struggling to get anywhere near winning every game. It just isn't the same as a race to be Champions, like we had with Barnet a few years back. Now, with 3 games to go I'd definitely agree, and probably also agree if 4 games to go and still being 3 points behind. The problem is, whilst dropping into the relegation zone, we've also gone from having games in hand to now having played more than the rest.

We have played more games than all around us, we are also in the worst form than the other 5 teams, losing the last 5 on the spin.
I don't think we can take 3 points from any of our remaining games (i really hope i am wrong).
Rochdale still have to play Swindon and Wimbledon, Wigan have to play Swindon on the last day.
Swindon have got Rochdale, Wigan and Wimbledon and Northampton have still got BRFC to play.
Teams around us have to play each other hence will pick up points either way.

What a game! How we so needed that!
Congratulations to the boys.
We were the better team for long spells in the game, but unlike other recent games we managed to grind out the result.
Thank you very much!
One down, six to go!

Fantastic performance from the lads today. I think we've played well in quite a few games recently but just haven't got the rub of the green - today we did, and deservedly grabbed the 3 essential points on offer. UTG

First Part achived Second Part few hours away - I think Joey, getting Andy Rammel down to discuss a previous great escape and enlighten the players on the massive difference Gas fans in attendance would make, could be a master stroke. Hopefully today there will be 11 McCormicks on the pitch which would give us 3 points UTG Attachments:

He has been brought onto the pitch in a previous and poor season.

The Mansfield game was a quiet affair if you talk of singing and encouragement. That nervousness can also have an effect on the players.

After the premier of the Jordanian documentary at the Mem early into Wael's reign, i caughtup wiith El Presidente and and mentioned the large number of elderly Gas supporters, all of whom were desperate for new Stadia and success on the playing field.
So its very frustrating when you see other 'smaller' clubs punching above their weught such as Bournemouth (albeit they have a rich foreign owner)
Joking apart, we have in the meantime lost alot of good friends through ill health, old age and more recently Covid, So it's vital we stay in this league, i include myself when i state the obvious 'time is not on our side' and cannot face the thought of langerashing in division 4 for years to come

So six teams left in the relegation dogfight and all showing absolutely no signs of going on a decent run to get out of trouble. Firstly, the only team who won yesterday was NORTHAMPTON, but its unlikely to be enough to save them. With away games at Hull City, Peterborough (who have 10 million rated striker) and Sunderland - DOWNNext is ROCHDALE, an easier run in compared to Northampton, but in poor form and five points adrift they look out of it - DOWNWhilst SWINDLE playing against Rochdale, Wimbledon and Wigan, along with games Peterbrough and Portsmouth coupled with financial troubles off the field - DOWN Still following me, we are left with two possiblities GAS OUTCOME 1 our monday match against out of form Doncaster and saturday's game at Northampton are massive. 1 point and we are DOWN If however we can, OUTCOME 2 take 4 points plus and with our relatively easy run in - it's perm any two out of three between GAS, WIGAN, WIMBLEDON - FIGHT IT OUT Well that's clarified matters its now one out of two Gas and Wigan for the final relgation slot:
Rochdale - Way way way to far adriift and to much to make up - DOWN
Swindle - In pi## poor form to many tough games, along with off the pitch issues - DOWN
Northampton - Can't see them getting any more than between 3 - 5 points from a harsh run in - DOWN
Wimbledon - They have 5 winable games coming up (4 at home) they could be clear of relegation in April with to 2 games still to play -SAFE
So that leaves Wigan and Gas with both on the same points - However Wigan's game in hand is on tuesday night home to Sunderland, we realty need the 'black cats' to help us out. With similar toughish run in - It's going to be one hell of a ride to the end!
Oh why oh why could we not have held on for the 3 points - So its another 7 days to save our season with the GAS and WIGAN to fight it out.

Nice post, tote4....
I think we're down..... obviously don't follow any other club, but how many of them make 1 or 2 slips at the back and they're immediately punished? It's incredible.....it feels like every slip at the back results in a goal, every single one.....yet Hanlan can be played in last week 1 on 1 and keeper saves, Ayunga can get played in and defender recovers..... we're poor in both boxes and that is big recipe for disaster.
Which is what we've seen almost every match this year. Plus....7/8 injuries of first team players?
It's a mountain to climb because we haven't gotten enough points leading into the last 10 matches.

It really does seem like the ‘gods’ are against us, on all fronts, Consequently, 3 point haul for Wigan on Tuesday and the trap door beckons. So I will spend a tenner on Wigan v Sunderland to cheer the black cats to victory a result which would be awesome with just five games left each and the same points, but with luck to date fat chance of that - at the end of the day It’s the hope that kills you..................
