Graham Coughlan appointed Sheffield United under 23 coach following the departure of Chris Wilder. He left Mansfield after a poor spell. Amazing how quickly football coaches move on. Still awaiting for Tony Pulis to get another job.
Never really liked Rovers Football under GG but cannot deny he was successful.

Coughlan should serve as a timely warning to B***** what happens when you drop down a division as a manager after leaving a job unfinished. He got one crack at success with Mansfield, failed and now he’ll be lucky to get another managerial job in the FL.

What GC done and did for our playing side, which did contain errors, was nothing short of phenomenal.
I understand some of it was tedious, but in the East Stand, you could see the level of defending both in quality and topography on pitch was much higher on his arrival.
He wasn't expected to succeed. And with hindsight, I wonder if BG was being thought of back then? But he hit the ground running, the way he galvanised (sometimes) ordinary players and brought the best out of them, installed a confidence and team spirit we can only dream of 18 months later...
Good luck to him. I liked his interviews, even on TN his tell of a knowing smile he knew the debate!
Once you leave under those circumstances, there no coming back, he's definitely taken steps back to move forward, but that's his choice and he left us in a much better place than when he joined.

I agree, he was an excellent defensive coach and he took us to giddy heights far removed from the relegation blues we'd endured before he took over. He is a friend of Wilder's so probably got a leg up there. I miss his cocky jaunts across the lush green catwalk to the dugout in his tighter than tight drainpipe tights and size 48 boots, and wish him all the best. I've a feeling he'll bounce back as a head coach sooner or later.

Before GC was finally given the job, Ben Garner was quite short odds. No-one had heard of him then. Ben who??? There is no rational explanation that I have heard as to why Ben Garner was made manager, other than he must have personally known Wael Al-Qadi beforehand. "Outstanding CV and outstanding candidate for the position" was the crap released at the time. We've heard that a couple of few times since.

I'm pleased for GC getting this great job at the Blades,it may well help him back into management,if he wants it. He did a fantastic job at Rovers.Clearly one of the best our fc ever had.He succeeded!

Never really liked Rovers Football under GG but cannot deny he was successful.I would be quite happy with 46 1-0 wins via o.g every week and playing mediocre than where we are today. Wimbledon and others went the direct route, got slammed for it, but were successful in the end (8 seasons in the Prem) Grinding out results is the name of the game now, gritty & determined against all the odds now to stay up. Our current squad are simply not good enough, but we have to stay up and build for next season with a complete overhaul of the players.

Playing in the championship after two promotions under the same manager, including p&ssing through the playoffs against, um, I don’t remember now

Apparently playing in tier two, which we haven't done since the 1992-1993 season.
