Councillor Lane of the Greens proposed the motion, with Deputy Mayor Asher Craig seconding. It was passed with a large majority.
I think the council are trying to suggest all this meeting was about , was officially recognising that plenty of Bristol did 'very well thank you ' from the slave trade.
That's it,just an official recognition.
The Conservatives - Steve Jones - did not support this proposal, basically saying the idea came from a good and well meaning place but it's complicated and it could cause division.
Councillor Lane of the Greens said it's about "holistic repair".
She added it should lead to "public apologies, social justice initiatives, education or cultured projects, commemorative ceremonies, affirmative action and much more".
I agree with Steve Jones of the Conservatives,it'll cause division.

They feel the need/calling to 'teach us better' apparently.
