Just wanted to convey thanks and gratitude to the bods that kept and continue to keep this forum open.
I think it's important to have more than one Gas forum.
We have also been observing influx of newbies that have had experience of the other place, it's sometimes used a battered username refuge!
This place may lack the quantity of posts, but many lurk here without posting. This offers a different blend for everyone, and in these troubled times is valued more. Long may it continue...

Thanks o2o2bo2ba. Appreciated. I've learned that it can be a pretty thankless task at times. I think Jeff, Cheshire, Irish and Peter are still the real backbone, and display more patience and apply better judgement than me... There have been times recently when I've felt like walking away completely. Regards, Lurker (for the moment anyway).

Important observation and wholeheartedly seconded. It’s a bit depressing for me to see the posters who now say they don’t log on here anymore because there is too much anti-Barton sentiment. The inability to listen to other’s opinions with respect even if you disagree is why the other forum is so bloody awful.

It's almost like if you don't hold similar views you can't be friends....? Which brings this forum into play and increases it's importance to always project something different without being washed away into insignificance...... which, could have happened recently if others hadn't stepped up to take the mantle. We're blessed to have a large fanbase to warrant multiple platforms, and even though some don't contribute (for whatever reason), every day or night is open to everyone.

Completely agree. Always good to have an alternative to view. UTG!

Yes you’re correct, we do need to listen to all opinions and tbf it’s not just one side who fail to do that! The other place does appear to have one or two who get very “angry” and turn on others, but so does this place until they calm down but you know who they are. I guess if you get easily offended by someone disagreeing and perhaps going too far in their opposition you shouldn’t be on a forum but it kind of works I think. Like this place I think the mods do a good task, pretty thankless really but they make a judgement. I like both, for different reasons. UTG!

If you look through the Politics section - I tried very hard to try and find common ground. The aim there was to find 'shades of grey' and show that things weren't always black and white. Polite debate was always encouraged. To a degree it was successful, though sadly it's become a very one-sided. The problem with the Barton appointment, is it is a binary issue. You either 'forgive' a man for his very violent past, his long charge sheet, his relentless pursuit to be in the public eye, his plain nasty malevolence on social media, and hope he stays out of trouble. On a professional level, he achieved nothing at Fleetwood on a very healthy budget. And left under a cloud. Of course he did. Or you call out the appointment for what you see the appointment as. A stupid, high risk gamble on an unstable, violent character. An expensive, divisive decision which calls into question the integrity of the Board and the very Club itself. There's no room for shades of grey here. I probably should have PM'd you. I don't want further discussion. Though of course I will have the courtesy to read your response.

Well first of all, I rarely venture into the politics section of either forum. I've said before I disagree with politics integration with sport, but understand others love it and can't get enough. I also disagree it's "either or" with JB appointment which has divided the fan base. There is room for other stances. First of all, the club have a history of employing staff that have transgressed the law before (sometimes with full knowledge prior), so we are not virginal in this regard. Secondly, I think it's a very valid point to passively support an appointment which can potentially help the professional well being of the club, no matter what "baggage" the appointment comes with. To distinguish between personal and professional traits is completely acceptable. Thirdly, it's all about where everyone draws their line on the first two points. I'm still neutral about this appointment. I know that might not sit well with some, and some are trying to put me in a box, but I support the club not any one person in it because no one person is bigger than the club. Although Josh Barrett is on his way to eating his way there... I'm still in two minds. I take on board all the previous incidents, and my natural instinct is to take an empathetic and compassionate approach....but not at the expense of harm to the club or bringing it's reputation into disrepute. And I recognise some may think this has already happened. What this forum should do (and I think does somewhat a good job), is bring everyone together from every political, ethnic, class etc background to inform and explore concepts. But please keep the good work up. It's important to me to be relatively free to express opinion, and it's just as important for others to be relatively free to ignore it...

Some people have made the Barton appointment a 'You're either with us or agin us' issue, which is not how I feel at all. He certainly wasn't top of my list of who I wanted to be manager, but now he's here, I hope to be proved wrong and that he turns out to be an excellent appointment. One thing is for sure, he won't be here all that long anyway, managers either move on or get moved on.

Completely understand other POV but I support the club whoever is manager and as you say for one reason or another they all move on. UTG!
