Football clubs have a structure and it needs to be respected, except in extreme circumstance. Rovers. El Presidente WAQ is the Boss. He and the Board discuss our route, the "Boss" has the final say. The powers that be select a Manager. Players do as the Manager says to the best of their ability Gasheads support the Rovers in vocally home and away. But merchandise.Help out in the community etc. I don't think hiring Joey B***** is an extreme move that warrants the destructive 'atmosphere' that's going on.Okay,I know JB has plenty of support too. We ought to win, lose and draw together. It makes sense. I found the point of view of those that could'nt accept the GC era unfathomable.'Bugger success,I want pretty football'!I questioned whether I wanted to bother anymore. Why support a club that has such a self destruct capability. It's been discussed how bad will it be if Rovers go down. I think it could be even worse if it looks as if JB could succeed at Rovers - by challenging for promotion to the 2nd tier - but somehow, anti JB Gasheads pressure ,prompts the Board to get rid of him,or at least plays a part in his departure. That might see some Gasheads give up on the club. With respect Bas if memory serves going all the way back to the official forum you’ve given up on the club more times than I’ve had hot dinners. The club can’t please everyone and at some point people are going to walk away for whatever reason. And that’s fine. It should be respected that some fans feel that the club no longer represents their values. It’s a bloody game at the end of the day, it’s not life or death, the club doesn’t put food on the table for you or keep you in a job. If people feel that they don’t want to compromise their values over a football club and want to take a break that’s fine and should be respected. I don’t even know what Bristol Rovers is any more personally. The only thing that makes the club Rovers right now, for me, is the pirate on the badge and the fact that we’re battling relegation because of mistakes by the owner.

That might see some Gasheads give up on the club. I’m not sure people will be actively against B***** in the long term. I can only speak for myself - I found it hard the first game not looking at the team sheet an hour before kick off and staying away from keeping an eye on the score, but by the Burton game I barely remembered we were playing. I’ll be busy tomorrow but at some point in the afternoon I’ll look at the score and while my stomach will tighten a bit if we’ve lost it will be soon forgotten. By august I probably won’t know half the players and my kids won’t even remember BRFC. I won’t buy any more merchandise and if B***** is sacked/jailed/glasses widdrington at the end of the season it might actually be quiet difficult going back. I feel I’ve seen the worst in the board, Wael and a lot of supporters in this episode and I don’t really feel connected or bothered about the club Bang on, it’s really highlighted for me how intolerant to different points of view a good number of Rovers fans are and that leaves me cold, as well as the other stuff. Like I say I don’t even recognise Rovers any more. Maybe I’ve just moved on mentally from football but I just can’t give up wanting a football club to identify with.

It’s strange, I’ll always be a gashead even if some B***** lovers will say I can’t be a true fan. Yeah - it’s been 30 years of prawn sandwiches and trophies. But moving on from rovers has been moving on from football and I didn’t realise that would happen. No soccer Saturday, no match of the day. Not by choice, just no enjoyment from it. And I can’t bear to hear Clem bigging up “joey B*****’s Bristol rovers” which I’m sure will be happening

I only threaten not to come anymore every time we concede an unnecessary corner Yes,okay ,you make a good point. But,when I hang about I at least do my best to be supportive of the club, with the plan being 'win football matches'. I have seen it before at Rovers. It's challenge enough when we're happy and all singing from the same song book.Squabbling, non attendance does nothing to help winning football matches. Football brings different people together.Joey B***** needs help to stop his violent quick temper,I imagine he knows this. I think we should get behind Joey B***** because he is the Rovers Manager. 4th tier next season?

A year away from football has broken the habit for many people and given them a chance to do other things and to realise that there are things that they enjoy doing more on a Saturday. I have been talking about this with a mate up north,he is a Manchester City fan since 1967 and he says that quite a few people that he knows have become disconnected with the club and realised that they only kept going through habit,he says that he has thought about it and that he hasnt really enjoyed going to matches since City left Maine road. You might think that its taken him a long time to realise that he is doing something that he doesnt enjoy but people are creatures of habit, once the habit is broken it might be broken forever...

Iam now finding myself agreeing with both sides of the arguement, so for the time being i guess we are going to have to see how it all plays out.
Firstly, we need to avoid the drop and i assume we are all on the same page in that respect. We all then will have a hard personal choice to make..
As far as the Tioteend4 is concerned , to a man, after what will be an 18 month s***efest / pre season , we will all be ticketed up ready real deal in August when live football returns to the Mem.
Given the choice of meeting in the pub with mates for a few lemonades before the game or shopping, cleaning, gardening, diy etc its not a tight call!

I worked in London in the late seventies and i often would take in a Spurs match at White Hart Lane. Football was a totally different experience then, if you wanted to watch a game you just rolled up on the day and be right in with the fans, the atmosphere was electric . To give you an example how mad it was, on the terrace every home game was around 40/50 'Bob Marley' lookalikes who would attend smoking weed without a care in the world. Now its almost impossible to watch a match, the last game I watched was against Wigan where the Steward's out numbered the 100 or so Wigan fans and we were confined it an area full of tourists!
Over the years I've gone right off the Premier league model , it's not football any more, it's all about a giant money pot shared out among the Elite when an average player's transfer fee amounts to building a spanking new stadium for the Gas four times over!
Watching at the Mem is proper football, with its ups and downs and standing on the terrace in our ramshackle gound it's Iike a Tottenham home game without the dope.
Iam looking forward to returning in August my enthusiasm unabated, in the meantime desperately hoping JB can keep us up. I have just watched his after match interview and he's talked the talk and is not going down without a fight ( no pun intended ) With Shrewsbury desperate to join the relegation battle its now perm any four out of eight!

Non attending Gasheads in GC time played a part in our current position imo. Trying to ruin it for JB is destructive. Getting rid of Lennie was stupid, but supported by many Gasheads. Some of the posts and threads on this forum since JB got the job are destructive and sanctimonious enough to be the last woke priest standing. Yep,of course WAQ and various board members have made mistakes and they make the decisions ,but that can be prompted by eg non attenders ,not at the Mem because the football is'nt how Gary Lineker told them it should be. These are reasons why - as thread title asked - it will be difficult for JB to become a Rovers legend. True its a tough ask, however avoiding the drop would be a good start! Two excellent performances at home six precious points with the players responding to Mr Motivator. More of the same please JB and the boys help get us all through this Covid sh##fest by keeping us up and entertaining us with more goals goals goals!

I’ve read about these wins and am genuinely pleased for long-standing gasheads like yourself who are able to enjoy these times
