The Ben Garner squad playing this opposite of Ben Garner football You have to wonder how Garner might have done if he had been given a mandate to bypass the midfield completely, Tisdale too. Nah. Garner ordered slow tippy tappy rubbish through the midfield. This is direct and effective.

But he wasn’t brought in to play kick and rush because the club was moving away from that...one promotion push pissed up the wall later we now seem to be a Coughlan team again. Was it ever worth it?

We are getting an attacking 3 vs 3 quite a bit. We will break through at some stage. Our wingbacks are getting further forward. Gills are good on the ball, but have no idea in the final third - they just lump it into the box for one of our 3 CB's to deal with. Very good game so far for a 0-0 HT.

Note on commentary. The 'sub-commentator' is very good. The main one is a bit biased. But very good so far. Fair play. Yes I agree. Very good analysis.

You would have to conclude, no! But we aren't a GC team relying on JCH. Early days, but I really like the look of the way Widdrington is lining us up.

Apropos of nothing. I went to the first away game in 1999 when Ronnie Mauge was sent off early on. But no worries, Jason came to the rescue, and we won 1-0. Remember the Mauge sending off. Seem to recall it was down to playacting by Hessenthaler.

You would have to conclude, no! But we aren't a GC team relying on JCH. Early days, but I really like the look of the way Widdrington is lining us up. I think it’s a fallacy that GC was reliant on JCH when he got us to 3rd. Have a look at the team sheets from that run and you’ll see after JCH’s hat trick against Accrington he missed a good two months worth of the fixtures during which time we kept winning and scoring goals with the likes of Nichols and Smith up front. We all know Nichols never scored so the goals were obviously coming from the team as a collective. I promised I wouldn’t complain about “winning football” again after I was one of those who wanted Coughlan out, but it makes my teeth absolutely itch that we were ticking along brilliantly and what we needed was to give Maher, Mansell and Hargreaves a few games to carry on Coughlan’s work but the board knew better and started us on this disastrous year with talk of Rovers DNA and other utter drivel. Now we find ourselves battling relegation and resorting back to bypassing the midfield with some early success under the guy who assured us the players were technically brilliant. Rovers is almost a parody of itself at times. Hey ho, that’s my rant out of the way. I’m going to embrace this reverting to type because I know what happened last time I criticised it!! 😂 Kick the leather off it!

we have followed the football for many decades. Against all expectations, There’s that one midweek win, fine performances with more than one goal, suddenly the sky is awash with swallows, the corners been turned. then on Saturday back to normal, the impotent slide back to relegation. this isn’t just doomporn this is blue and white realism isn’t it? however I have one thing to add to the conversation. And if I said this at anytime even just months or weeks ago, there would have been uproar in the village and you would have marched on my palace. But, yeah, but, he does have that mistake in him, but for undoubted bravery never shirking a 50/50 or a penalty, determination, does his best for us, it’s time I say to throw our replica shirted arms around him and embrace him as one of our own. I’m talking Luke Leahy. Emperor,I've rated him from when he first played. He was one of those players that was picked on by many Gasheads. "Doing a job" is not enough for some. Ollie Clark got it from them too. I wonder how many of them even played local football because if they did/had,they might have a different understanding. I see your point that following a decent victory v Pompey,we'll be back to normal v Gills and get beat. I hope the lads are well tested, but have the mental strength to get another result. I'll be happy with a point. “I see your point that following a decent victory v Pompey,we'll be back to normal v Gills and get beat.” hopefully this is the new normal, that was a very strong first half performance. Bodies behind ball, blocking and clearing with aplomb, no nonsense direct into the channels, and direct around their box too. long may it last.

The tactics sounded affective.
It reminded me of when Gerry Francis took over the first time when he witnessed the team trying to play football.
"You lot can't play football, just hit it long to the big fella up front." I think we were a bit better than that but Gerry likes to tell that story.

Triple change from Gills? Because they know we would win this without them making major changes. UTG!
