RIP Tommy Docherty. Very much the "Ron Manager" era of football. Which, I miss.

one of the "old style characters" of that era, not afraid to upset anyone or put them in their place.... or maybe "step over the white line" ........ unlike todays ' sterile boring crew, ,,,,no realtime managers/ coaches whatever their label is, that will noted for their character, just for what they may have won

My abiding memory of my first match in the Tote End was the chant "Doc, Doc, Docherty, who the f'ing hell is he?" when we played QPR on 03 Nov 1979.
RIP Doc.

Tommy Doc played most of his career at Preston winning a 2nd division title and runners up at the 1954 FA Cup final, losing 3-2 to W.B.A.
Tommy went on to play for Scotland 25 times and with them went to the 1954 and 1958 world cups.
Tommy managed 13 teams, notably Man.Utd, Chelsea, Q.P.R, Villa, Scotland, Porto & others.
He won the League Cup with Chelsea and the 2nd division and FA Cup with Man.Utd.
Tommy had a good innings reaching 92 and will be remembered by many people - R.I.P

Interesting story that he was sacked by United after having an affair with the physios wife. But the twist was that they ended up happily married for the rest of their lives which puts a bit of a different spin on how its often remembered up here in Manchester. I didn't know that - seems as though the 'dirty Tommy' comments United and City fans of a certain generation often spout is basically bulls**t and rather unfair on the man who by all accounts was in reality a thoroughly decent person.
