UK Anti-Doping confirm Conor Benn was 'provisionally suspended' on 15th March..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/0FA7/production/_128870040_gettyimages-1388774553.jpgUK Anti-Doping has confirmed Conor Benn was provisionally suspended from sport on 15th March. Benn, 26, failed two voluntary drug tests last year, testing positive for female fertility drug clomifene on both occasions. After Benn refused to comment on reports of a potential ban earlier this week, Ukad said it had charged him on 3rd April with a doping violation. Benn said he "remains free to fight outside the UK". Doping investigations are confidential until a final conclusion is reached, but Ukad has released a statement following Benn's own comments on the issue earlier this week. "Ukad confirms that Mr Benn was notified and provisionally suspended by Ukad on 15th March 2023 in accordance with the UK anti-doping rules," a statement read. "Whilst provisionally suspended, Mr Benn is prohibited from participating in any capacity (or assisting another athlete in any capacity) in a competition, event or activity that is organised, convened, authorised or recognised by the British Boxing Board of Control or any other World Anti-Doping code-compliant sport." Benn does not currently hold a British boxing licence, having given it up after testing positive. That does not affect Ukad or the British Boxing Board of Control's remit in suspending the welterweight. The BBBofC can only ask other governing bodies not to sanction Benn to fight abroad. BBBofC general secretary Robert Smith said it would object to Benn fighting outside the UK and reject permission requests from licence holders to fight Benn. Chris Eubank Jr was in talks to reschedule his fight with Benn this summer, but ultimately walked away from negotiations because of the BBBofC's position. Benn is undefeated in his professional career and has repeatedly said he is innocent of intentionally doping. "I can't comment on anything to do with Ukad other than to say that I am in touch with them," Benn said on social media on Tuesday. "Someone at the BBBoC or Ukad obviously wanted to create a headline, unlike the [Amir] Khan case where it was kept quiet for 14 months but this is nothing new." Khan received a two-year doping ban earlier this month having tested positive for banned substance ostarine after his fight against Kell Brook in February 2022. The former world champion was cleared of intentionally doping by Ukad but strict liability means a fighter must accept a significant ban regardless of intent. Benn faces the same strict liability issue after twice testing positive for clomifene in two separate tests administered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association. Clomifene is banned in and out of competition by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Liam Smith v Chris Eubank Jr: Rivals to fight again in Manchester on 17th June..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1590F/production/_129353388_gettyimages-1458321815.jpgLiverpudlian Smith, 34, beat Eubank in January via fourth-round stoppage in a bitterly-contested middleweight fight. Eubank, 33, sought revenge and activated the rematch clause shortly after the third loss of his career. In the co-main event, Briton Savannah Marshall will face undisputed super-middleweight champion Franchon Crews-Dezurn. Marshall, 31, has not fought since she lost her own grudge match against Claressa Shields in October, but has a second chance to become undisputed champion. American Crews-Dezurn holds all four world titles in the division and the only defeat on the 35-year-old's record is by Shields in 2016. Smith and Eubank Jr resume hostilitiesWhen the first bout between Eubank Jr and Smith was announced, few expected it to generate the attention it did. But a bubbling rivalry exploded in fight week as both boxers hurled unsavoury jibes at each other in a bizarre Manchester news conference. Eubank wore a rainbow armband at the weigh-in in response to homophobic taunts from Smith, sparking a conversation about boxing and its responsibility to create an inclusive sport. Both men were fined by the British Boxing Board of Control for their behaviour. The fight itself was explosive, as Smith produced a blistering performance to blow Eubank away in just four rounds. The display was another fantastic win for Smith, who has accumulated four stoppage wins in a row. Eubank was at his preferred weight, while Smith had fought most of his career at light-middleweight. The rematch seemed an obvious choice for both men after their profiles soared, but Conor Benn almost derailed plans. Talks were held about rescheduling their abandoned fight in Abu Dhabi this summer, but the British Boxing Board of Control's insistence they would not back Eubank fighting Benn in another country ultimately forced discussions to be abandoned. And so Eubank returns to the scene of his worst defeat, aiming to resurrect a career that could be permanently ended by another win for the resurgent Smith. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/10AEF/production/_129353386_gettyimages-1458325739.jpg

Chris Eubank Jr says he "enjoyed" his defeat by Liam Smith as the Britons prepare for their rematch on 17th June.Smith, 34, stopped Eubank in four rounds last January, bringing an explosive end to a bitter build-up. Eubank, 33, activated his rematch clause and on Tuesday said he was "determined" to come back stronger. "I enjoyed it. I imagine you've been in the sport your entire career and something new happens to you, it's exciting," he said. "A lot of guys can't come back after a big loss. "It breaks them. It breaks their spirit, it breaks their confidence, it breaks their rhythm. "For me, it just makes me more determined to improve, to figure why things went wrong and fix those mistakes. "And that's exactly what's going to happen in the rematch." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/7787/production/_129499503_81968ceb4de7d68ce3732dfe3e6e91ffa0918b4c.jpgSmith took particular interest in Eubank's assertion he could have continued and won the fight had the referee Victor Loughlin not stopped the contest after the second knockdown. "The thing I regret is not being given the chance to get through it. I wanted to continue. I want to see if I could overcome that adversity. I feel like I was robbed of that challenge," Eubank said. "In my opinion he didn't stop me. The referee stopped me. In a sense we both got robbed - he got robbed [of the chance] to finish me conclusively. "And that could have happened. And I got robbed of the opportunity to overcome that bad instance and to maybe come back and win the fight. "That's what the fans really want to see." Smith replied: "You don't need to be a genius to see he was falling all over the place."

Chantelle Cameron v Katie Taylor: Irish star vows to 'make history' in Dublin homecoming..By Coral Barry, BBC Sport at Dublin Castle.ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/1294B/production/_129770167_gettyimages-1255802848.jpgKatie Taylor vowed to produce the best performance of her career against Chantelle Cameron in her first fight in Ireland as a professional. Taylor, 36, moves up to light-welterweight to challenge undisputed champion Cameron in Dublin on Saturday. Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, Taylor said her main aim when she turned pro was to fight at home. "It's amazing to bring big-time boxing back to this nation where it belongs," the Irishwoman said. "I have a chance to make history and nobody is going to take that away from me." Cameron, Britain's first female undisputed champion, accepted a call-out from Taylor on Instagram when the Irish star's rematch with Amanda Serrano fell through. The Northampton fighter said she had no reservations about accepting the fight. "For me this fight is bigger than becoming undisputed champion," Cameron said. "It will definitely be hostile. But it'll be tunnel vision. Focus on the job at hand and that's to win." There have been no major boxing events in Ireland since the shooting at a weigh-in at Dublin's Regency Hotel in 2016. Security concerns and associated costs have made it near impossible for a major boxing event to be held in the country ever since. Taylor turned professional just nine months after the gangland shooting that claimed the life of David Byrne. "We're turning a new leaf for Irish boxing," undisputed lightweight champion Taylor said. "Hopefully this is the first of many nights in Ireland. Young girls are looking up to myself and Chantelle. It's absolutely fantastic. "They're going to grow up with big dreams as well." When Serrano pulled of their scheduled rematch on 20th May, Taylor said she felt like her long-anticipated homecoming was "slipping away" from her. She could not have picked a tougher task as a replacement than Cameron, who is undefeated in 17 fights and a history-maker in her own right. Taylor last fought in Ireland as an amateur and although she has been her usual reserved, calm self for much of the build-up her excitement to be back on home turf has shown at times. It is clear the star attraction wants fight week to go by quickly. Before the customary face-off at the end of the news conference, Taylor was waiting for Cameron in the centre of the stage when she realised she didn't have her belts with her. Pioneer Cecilia Braekhus fights Terri Harper on Saturday night on the undercard and went through a similar process to Taylor to bring boxing back to Norway. The former undisputed welterweight champion said she knew exactly how Taylor felt and could not envision anyone beating her on home soil, not even a fighter as skilled as Cameron. The Briton has a mammoth task on her hand, and knows she has to produce her best against arguably the world's leading female fighter on a hugely emotional night for the hometown hero. Taylor will hope a big win can heal the wounds boxing has suffered in Ireland in recent years and begin a new era of big fight nights in the country. But Cameron has vowed to spoil that party.

Steve Bunce column: Night of 'mayhem and anarchy' leaves no winners for boxing..By Steve Bunce, BBC Radio 5 Live boxing analyst.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/15D15/production/_129856398_bbc-sport-index-imagery-3-split-images-gradient-483157dd-2ccb-44ea-87a8-056c41cbebbd.pngNottingham's Leigh Wood, Belfast's Michael Conlan and London's Lawrence Okolie are all in world title fights on SaturdayHaving three good world title fights in three different venues on one night is an absolute disaster for boxing. It's about the worst thing that can happen in this sport, and I really mean that. In Manchester, Nottingham's Leigh Wood challenges Mauricio Lara for the WBA featherweight title. In Bournemouth, Lawrence Okolie defends his WBO cruiserweight title against Chris Billam-Smith. And in Belfast, local hero Michael Conlan takes on reigning IBF featherweight champion Alberto Lopez. You'd be happy to have three fights like this in the entire year. You'd be delighted if you had these three fights in a couple of months. To have them on one Saturday is quite ridiculous. What's really amazing, if you have a look at the boxing diary in the UK, the following weekends: 3rd June, empty; 17th June, empty; 24th June, empty. All six of the men in the three world fights have all been on 5 Live in the past 12 months. These are all big fights. We use words like unique in boxing, overused. We talk about rare, overused. We talk about incredible nights, overused. But surely this night ticks all these boxes. It's never happened before and I hope it never happens again.

Dillian Whyte offered Anthony Joshua rematch - Eddie Hearn..By Kal Sajad, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1101B/production/_129995696_gettyimages-501134964.jpg Anthony Joshua earned a seventh-round win over Dillian Whyte in December 2015Promoter Eddie Hearn says he has made an offer to Dillian Whyte for a rematch with Anthony Joshua this summer. On Saturday Joshua, who beat Whyte in 2015, posted on social media to say he was unaware of any talks of a rematch. But Hearn said both men want the fight, and Joshua is also closing in on a deal to face Deontay Wilder in Saudi Arabia in December. "Our plan, which we've stressed, is for AJ to box on 12 August and in December again against Deontay," Hearn said. Speaking to BBC Sport on Monday, Matchroom Boxing's Hearn added: "The offer was made to Dillian over the weekend. We are waiting for his response to that and we'll talk today." In a heated affair, Joshua, 33, knocked out Whyte in the seventh round of their British title fight to avenge a loss to his rival from their amateur days. Olympic gold medallist Joshua went on to become a two-time world champion, while Whyte, 36, lost his only world title challenge to Briton Tyson Fury in 2022. "Dillian has a lot of value in the rematch," Hearn said. "This is not an opponent for Joshua, but a big fight between two world-class heavyweights and huge British names. "The negotiations will be difficult but both AJ and Whyte want the fight." 'We're happy to proceed with Wilder in December'According to reports, representatives in Saudi Arabia are looking to host Joshua-Wilder and Fury against Oleksandr Usyk in December, potentially on the same night. Joshua has twice fought in Saudi Arabia. He beat Andy Ruiz Jr to reclaim his world titles in 2019 and lost to Ukraine's Usyk in August 2022. American Wilder is considered one of the hardest punchers in heavyweight history, with 42 knockouts in his 43 wins. Usyk, who is likely to defend his titles against WBA mandatory challenger Daniel Dubois in Poland on 26 August, signed a co-promotion deal with Saud Arabia's Skill Challenge Entertainment on Saturday, meaning his future fights are likely to take place in the Middle East. "Usyk is locked in for his half of the deal to sign Tyson Fury in December," Hearn said. "Fury is another story but, from our point of view, subject to final offers and contracts, we're happy to proceed with the Wilder fight in December." 'We'll see what Fury does'Hearn said he "still very interested in a massive fight" between Joshua and Fury - one which has long been talked about - if other bouts fall through. Fury, 34, has not fought since stopping Derek Chisora in the 10th round at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in December. Earlier this month Fury said he had sent Joshua a contract to fight in September. Hearn said the priority is for Joshua to fight in August and then against Wilder later in the year, but has not ruled out a contest with Fury. "If we can't make the Whyte and Wilder fights, then we'll see what happens with Tyson Fury," Hearn said. "AJ was very reluctant, as a lot of people are right now, to base his short-term future on the likelihood of Tyson Fury actually doing what he says is going to do." ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/121F/production/_129993640_gettyimages-501134394.jpg

Floyd Mayweather and John Gotti III exhibition fight ends in mass brawl..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/347C/production/_130063431_screenshot2023-06-12at08.16.32.png The exhibition fight descended into chaos when the bout was stopped after six roundsFloyd Mayweather's exhibition fight with John Gotti III ended in a mass brawl when people stormed the ring following a controversial decision. Referee Kenny Bayliss stopped the fight in the sixth round to the annoyance of Gotti, who then lashed out at 46-year-old Mayweather. The ring was then swarmed with team members from both sides as Bayliss struggled to contain the drama. Gotti III, 30, is the grandson of former New York crime boss John Gotti. The melee kicked off a number of fights amongst the crowd in the FLA Live Arena in Florida and backstage. In a video posted on social media, former boxing world champion Mayweather was filmed after the fight saying: "That's why they pay the big bucks, because I put on a show." The arena had to be cleared by police, who threatened charges against fans who did not leave immediately. Mayweather retired in 2017 with a record of 50-0 and has appeared in several exhibitions bouts against mixed martial arts and YouTube stars. This was the first time his exhibition tour had returned to the United States since his eight-round bout with YouTuber Logan Paul in 2021. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/A9AC/production/_130063434_mayweather.jpg

Steve Bunce column: Heavyweight boxing has become a 'relentlessly boring pantomime'..By Steve Bunce, BBC Radio 5 Live boxing analyst.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/15DF/production/_129099550_gettyimages-1446556759.jpg Heavyweight world champions Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk have not yet been able to negotiate terms for an undisputed fightThere has always been a degree of pantomime attached to heavyweight boxing, but over these past six months, it has been seemingly endless - and relentlessly boring. This period may well come to be viewed as a black hole for championship heavyweight boxing. All we've had is more accusations, more bold claims, more broken promises and more planned fights scrapped. I keep a very strict, detailed account of claims made by promoters and fighters. For instance, at 4.20pm on 10th June 2020, Tyson Fury announced online that a bout with Anthony Joshua was on. When Fury and Joshua fell out of bed on 11th May 2021, we heard a deal was done for them to fight in Saudi Arabia. Five days later, the Saudis said it was definitely on. Just days after that, Eddie Hearn announced Oleksandr Usyk would fight Anthony Joshua at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - and that Fury and Deontay Wilder would get it on for the third time. Both happened. I've got another 50 or 60 more dates and claims. It has gone on and on. But in the time that has passed since Fury beat his old mate Derek Chisora in December, it has got to the stage where even a detailed diarist like me no longer cares. Fury and Usyk have not been able to negotiate terms for a fight. Usyk's people are calling Fury greedy. Fury is insulting Joshua, Wilder or particularly Usyk. I almost can't be bothered to keep track of it. Dublin pint did bigger numbers than Fury claim..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/8C62/production/_129883953_tysonfury.jpg WBC champion Tyson Fury has not fought since a 10th-round win over Derek Chisora in December at Tottenham Hotspur StadiumCan you imagine if we had to wait three years for Manchester City to play Inter Milan in the Champions League final? How many fans would football retain if big matches were delayed that long? Come on, boys, get your stuff together. Fans are bored with it all. I was in a Dublin for the brilliant Chantelle Cameron-Katie Taylor fight. I bought a pint in this old, rundown pub where The Dubliners, arguably the most famous ever Irish folk band, were formed. I took a picture of my pint and posted it on Twitter, alongside the caption "pint in the house where the Dubliners formed". At about the exact time Fury, in his eighth rant of that day, was calling out great UFC fighter Jon Jones, probably the 10th person he has challenged this year. After about four hours, more people had looked at a photo of a pint sat on a table in a Dublin bar than Fury's latest claims. That would not have happened a year ago. Will Saudi super-card happen ?..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1B1A/production/_129883960_anthonyjoshua.jpg Anthony Joshua bounced back from consecutive defeats by Oleksandr Usyk by beating Jermaine Franklin at in London in AprilFour weeks ago, I was reliably told by people flown out to Saudi by one of the consortiums that there is a $400m pot for both Usyk-Fury and Wilder-Joshua to take place at the end of this year. Then you hear a zillion other stories. It's hard to keep emotionally attached to it. Although I would love to say 100% we will see those four men fighting each other on the same night in Saudi, I just can't see it. I hope we get one of those two fights, but the idea we get both of them is a dream. In the meantime, Usyk's unified title defence against Britain's own Daniel Dubois looks set in stone to take place on 26 August in Poland. Dubois has been brilliantly guided to a world title shot. And he will give a good go. You will not outbox Usyk, and I think Dubois is willing to take risks. Dillian Whyte has been offered a rematch with Anthony Joshua for 12th August. I expect Whyte to negotiate and ask for more money. It is a risky fight for Joshua before a potential payday with Wilder later this year. Ratings are like cattle tradingThen that leaves Fury and who he might face next. He sold 60,000 tickets in arctic conditions at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Chisora last December. He can take his pick of opponent, really. Outside of the top heavyweights - Fury, Usyk, Wilder and Joshua - I wouldn't read too much into where a fighter is ranked and whether he is deserving of a shot. There is no science attached to it. Who is to say Martin Bakole is in front of Zhilei Zhang or Joe Joyce is in front of Frankie Sanchez? Ratings are not based on anything other than cattle trading. The four main sanctioning bodies - IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO - hold conventions each year which are full of people from promotional companies. Then, perhaps over a pina colada in Hawaii, they lobby for their fighter to be highly ranked. Sorry to expose the way the business works. Boxing is still thriving..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1204F/production/_129870837_crawford_spence_getty.jpg American welterweight world champions Terence Crawford (left) and Errol Spence Jr are both unbeatenWhat is happening at the top of the heavyweight division is filtering down to all weights and levels. We get people pulling out of fights - even at domestic level - because there's not enough money. But I have to stress boxing is in a good place, and the business is doing well and thriving. And we have had some huge fights this year. Mexican Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez returning home to Guadalajara to beat John Ryder in front of 55,000 fans was a massive event. Over in Las Vegas, Gervonta 'Tank' Davis sensationally stopped Ryan Garcia. And finally, on 29th July, we get to find out who is the best welterweight in the world, as Terence Crawford faces Errol Spence Jr. We just need Usyk v Fury and Wilder v Joshua to be made and we could be looking back at 2023 as the most incredible of years for our sport. Maybe the Saudis can prove me wrong. Steve Bunce was speaking to BBC Sport's Kal Sajad.

Liam Smith: Chris Eubank given new date for rematch, says promoter Ben Shalom..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/352F/production/_128351631_gettyimages-1457690308.jpgChris Eubank Jr has received a revised date for his rematch with Liam Smith. Smith, 34, pulled out of the original 1st July date due to injury but is now back to "100% fitness". Rumours have been circulating that Eubank is in advanced talks to fight Conor Benn next, but promoter Ben Shalom thinks the rematch will happen. "I expect it to happen and [for] it to happen very soon now that Liam has confirmed his 100% fitness," he told 5 Live Boxing. "We've sent the date over to Wasserman [Eubank's promoters] and hopefully we can confirm something next week." Eubank lost to his English rival Smith in their first fight in January, suffering the first stoppage defeat of his 35-fight career. The 33-year-old opted to activate his rematch clause after holding initial talks with Benn, and reportedly re-opened those talks when Smith picked up his injury in May. Benn is facing a lengthy doping suspension after testing positive for a banned substance on two separate occasions last year leading up to his scheduled fight with Eubank. That fight was cancelled, but the UK Anti-Doping Agency (Ukad) and the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC)are yet to rule on Benn's case. Benn gave up his boxing licence in the wake of the scandal in October but it was not until March that he was provisionally suspended by Ukad. "I don't think we should talk about other fighters until Ukad has gone through their process," Shalom said of talks Eubank could fight Benn. Speaking on the 5 Live Boxing podcast, Anthony Crolla said the right fight was Smith-Eubank, but thinks the more lucrative bout would be Eubank-Benn despite the opposition to it happening while Benn is facing a doping suspension. "It makes more business sense [to arrange] Chris Eubank Jr v Conor Benn. A lot of it for the wrong reasons, but controversy sells," he said. "I think Eddie Hearn's not been shy in saying a few things about that, basically said the deal is done, hasn't he? "But then we heard from Ben Shalom and we heard from Liam Smith, [the rematch seems to be] on as well. "I don't know what the contractual situation is there and that's what it is going to come down to."

Conor Benn: UK Anti-Doping confirms fighter 'no longer suspended'..By Kal Sajad, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/368F/production/_130576931_gettyimages-1491756804.jpg Conor Benn last fought in April 2022 when he stopped Chris van Heerden in two roundsConor Benn says he is free to fight in the United Kingdom again after a provisional UK Anti-Doping (Ukad) suspension was lifted. Benn, 26, failed two voluntary tests for female fertility drug clomifene before his cancelled October bout with fellow Briton Chris Eubank Jr. Ukad provisionally suspended Benn in March as it conducted its investigation. "The Ukad process has now firmly ended and I remain free to fight," Benn said. The body later issued a statement which read: "Ukad can confirm Mr Benn is no longer provisionally suspended under the UK Anti-Doping Rules." But it added that it had 21 days to assess whether it wanted to appeal against the decision, which was taken by the independent National Anti-Doping Panel. The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC), which licenses fighters in the UK, said it was "aware" of Benn's statement. General secretary Robert Smith said the organisation would "provide a further statement if and when able to do so", and directed enquiries to Ukad. However, promoter Eddie Hearn said Benn's "nightmare is over" and that he could have a smaller fight in September before a bigger one in December. In a statement issued on Friday, Benn added: "Today marks the end of the of a gruelling 10-month process, during which the WBC had already decided that I was innocent of any wrongdoing. "After a hearing with the National Anti-Doping Panel and Ukad, I have now been vindicated for the second time. "Hopefully the public and various members of the media can now understand why I have maintained my innocence so strongly all the way through." Benn and Eubank were scheduled to meet on 8 October at a catchweight of 157lb, 30 years after their fathers Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr fought. Having failed the two voluntary drug tests, Benn gave up his licence with the the BBBoC in the weeks after his planned contest with Eubank was cancelled. The board refused to let him compete in the UK until he co-operated with Ukad, although Benn did comply with a World Boxing Council (WBC) investigation. The WBC is a sanctioning body and not an anti-doping watchdog. After a short investigation into one of the failed drug tests, the WBC said it did not believe Benn was guilty of "intentional doping" and added a "highly elevated consumption of eggs" could have caused the positive test in July. Benn provided a 270-page document to the WBC outlining his defence, but insisted eggs were never offered as an excuse. He also said he does not accept the banned substance was ever in his system. Promoter Hearn, speaking on Matchroom Boxing's YouTube channel, says he expects Benn to reapply for his licence with the BBBoC and be cleared to fight in the UK. "It's been a brutal, painful year of work and belief," Hearn said. "The nightmare is over and he can get back to his career. Now we sit down with Conor and we look at the plan. "Maybe he has a slightly smaller fight first. He's been out of the ring for a year and a half, but he wants the big fights ASAP. "We'll decide what's right for him. I like him coming back and having a fight maybe in September, and then going into a huge fight in December." In Benn's Friday statement, he continued: "Naturally I am pleased that I can now put this behind me once and for all. "As you can imagine the last 10 months have weighed heavily on me and I am anxious that if this happened to me it could potentially happen to any honest, dedicated and clean athlete like me. "I now intend to put this matter behind me and look forward. Which begins with fighting as soon as possible so I can remind everyone who I am."

Dillian Whyte out of Anthony Joshua fight after adverse test..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/22FC/production/_130665980_gettyimages-1530880171.jpg Joshua and Whyte faced off at a press conference last month, between promoter Eddie HearnDillian Whyte has returned "an adverse finding" from a doping test, causing his heavyweight rematch against Anthony Joshua on 12 August to be cancelled. The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (Vada) informed promoters Matchroom and boxing authorities of the test result. "In light of this news, the fight will be cancelled and a full investigation will be conducted," said a Matchroom statement. A "devastated" Whyte, 35, says he is "completely innocent". Joshua, 33, could still fight at London's O2 Arena if a new opponent can be found. "I am shocked and devastated to learn of a report by Vada of adverse findings relating to me," Whyte wrote in a statement released on X, formerly known as Twitter. "I only learned of it this morning and am still reacting to it. "I have also just seen that the fight is being cancelled without having any chance to demonstrate my innocence before the decision was taken. "I can confirm without a shadow of doubt that I have not taken the reported substance, in this camp or at any point in my life. "I am completely innocent and ask to be given the time to go through the process of proving this without anybody jumping to conclusions or a trial by media." The fight between Joshua and Whyte, a rematch of their 2015 bout, was announced a month ago. Joshua knocked out Whyte in the seventh round of their heated British title fight eight years ago, which also took place at the O2, as he avenged a loss to his rival on the amateur circuit. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/79E4/production/_130340213_gettyimages-501134908.jpgJoshua knocked out Whyte in the seventh round of their 2015 fightWhyte, who lost his only world title challenge to Tyson Fury in 2022, beat Joshua by decision as an amateur in 2009 to start what became a bitter rivalry. Olympic gold medallist Joshua went on to become a two-time world champion. Joshua gained revenge when the pair met again as professionals in December 2015, being rocked in the second round but recovering to force a stoppage in the seventh. White had a doping violation charge dropped in 2019 after UK Anti-Doping said the levels of a banned steroid were "very low" and he was not at fault. He served a two-year suspension from 2012 to 2014 for taking an illegal supplement. A tribunal accepted Whyte's claim he did not knowingly take methylhexaneamine (MHA) but said he did not do enough to check the supplement's ingredients.

Anthony Joshua v Robert Helenius: Fired-up Briton in London weigh-in exchange..By Kal Sajad, BBC Sport at Westfield London.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/8660/production/_130700443_aj4.png Joshua and Helenius have sparred together beforeA fired-up Anthony Joshua exchanged words with opponent Robert Helenius during a long, intense stare-down as the heavyweights weighed in for Saturday's bout at London's O2 Arena. Briton Joshua, 33, weighed 17st 12lbs, a pound heavier than Helenius. The 39-year-old Finn took the fight at a week's notice after Dillian Whyte failed a voluntary drugs test. "You got a problem with me?" Joshua asked Helenius. In a swift retort, Helenius told Joshua: "I don't got a problem with you." Having just weighed in at Westfield London shopping centre on Friday, Joshua told his opponent: "We're going to fight now or we're going to fight tomorrow. Either way we're going to fight." He instructed Helenius to "stop acting up", adding: "Let's stay calm, let's stay cool." ichef.bbci.co.uk/images/ic/640x360/p0g668ll.jpgThe exchange was a stark contrast to Wednesday's respectful news conference, where both men shared pleasantries and shook hands. Promoter Eddie Hearn described the weigh-in as a "spicy" appetiser, having seen Joshua act uncharacteristically in a confrontational manner. Fans lined the balconies overseeing the atrium of the shopping centre in White City, eager to catch a glimpse of two-time world champion Joshua. With the undercard weigh-in done, a relaxed Joshua took his time in coming to the stage. The London 2012 gold medallist handed out hats and took photos with fans, as Helenius was made to wait. As the two men came face to face, Joshua - who has won 25 fights and lost three since turning pro - locked eyes with his opponent and refused to avert his gaze. Joshua says a change of opponent is "not a problem at all". He added: "A little blip in my day didn't change the whole trajectory of how my training camp went. "Stay focused. I'm happy I still get my day in the ring tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it. This is my job. This is what I love doing."

Anthony Joshua v Robert Helenius: Briton wins with one-punch knockout in round seven..By Kal Sajad, BBC Sport at O2 Arena, London.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1B2E/production/_130785960_081a5608.jpg Anthony Joshua secured his first knockout since 2020Heavyweight Anthony Joshua spectacularly knocked out Robert Helenius with one punch in round seven, after boxing tentatively in the first half of the fight at London's O2 Arena. The 33-year-old Briton - who was jeered by fans during the fight - landed nothing of note until an overhand right ended Helenius' night. The win - Joshua's first stoppage win in two and half years - sets up a blockbuster fight with American Deontay Wilder in January. "It's a fickle sport, you've got to be real about this industry and not get caught up. I've done my job tonight," Joshua told BBC Radio 5 live. When asked in the ring about the potential fight with Wilder, Joshua joked: "My back's gone, is there a doctor in here? I want to carry this heavyweight division to the top." After the knockout, an emotionally charged and smiling Joshua climbed out of the ring, high-fived fans and shared a beer with Irish mixed martial arts star Conor McGregor. Helenius needed oxygen after the heavy knockdown, but recovered and left the ring unassisted after congratulating Joshua. Joshua extends his record to 26 wins - with 23 stoppages - and three defeats. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/B76E/production/_130785964_gettyimages-1610559721.jpgHelenius stepped in on Monday for the heavyweight boutJoshua struggled to find any rhythm but the manner of the finish may just be the confidence-boosting win he so desperately needed, and a gentle reminder to other heavyweights he is not yet done. Helenius made his way to the ring in a packed out arena at the late time of 23:10 BST. Fans were offered a full refund when Whyte was withdrawn from the card but such is the draw of Joshua - there were no empty blue seats once the main event started. The Briton confidently strode to the ring to a medley of a violinist playing the title song from the film 'The Godfather' and then the more upbeat 'Insomnia' by Faithless. The 2012 Olympic gold medallist - fighting at the O2 Arena for the ninth time - kept his eyes firmly locked on Helenius during the introductions, who mockingly clapping back. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1F16/production/_130785970_gettyimages-1610557697.jpgJoshua is in talks to fight Deontay Wilder in JanuaryHelenius took the middle of the ring and swung a wild left in the first few seconds. The 'Nordic Nightmare' looked unfazed by the hostile atmosphere but neither man landed anything of note in a cagey opener. Joshua was moving freely, looking to set traps but throwing single shots and not imposing himself on the stand-in fighter. Fans started to become restless as early as the third. Boos echoed around the arena. The crowd wanted to see combinations, not this tentative approach. Joshua had not knocked out an opponent in the first half of a fight since beating Eric Molina in 2016, a staggering statistic for someone once considered one of the heaviest hitters in boxing. The Watford-born fighter landed a solid left in the fourth which sent Helenius backpedalling, but there was no sustained attack to follow. Helenius grew in confidence, landing jabs to mark Joshua under the eye in the fifth. There were more jeers from a bored crowd at the halfway stage. "It's hard to find the right hand," Joshua told trainer Derrick James. The American replied: "Keep trying." Joshua adhered to the instructions. Those fans who left their seats missed what promoter Eddie Hearn described as the "knockout of the year". A double feint followed by a right sent the Finn to the canvas, with referee Victor Loughlin halting the contest. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/A904/production/_130786234_gettyimages-1610620121.jpgTwo-time world champion Joshua extends his record to 26 wins - with 23 stoppages - and three defeatsRepresentatives from Saudi Arabia were in attendance, keen to conclude negotiations for a Joshua-Wilder mega-fight in the Middle East early next year. All Joshua had to do was avoid a potential banana skin in Helenius. Fortunately for him and Wilder, there was no slip-up. "We hope it's imminent," Hearn said. "That's why he wanted the Dillian Whyte fight, it's hard for him to get up to fights like this. "If he hits Wilder on the chin then it's over. This is about Anthony Joshua now, it's not about pleasing others. He's given everything to British boxing." Joshua-Wilder is a fight which has been mooted several times before, notably when the two heavyweights collectively held all four world titles. Boxing politics starved it from happening then, but it appears the money offered for a Middle East showdown will be too good for either fighter - or their promoters - to turn down. The winner will be propelled back towards world-title contention, the loser consoled by a career-high purse. Alabama's Wilder is one of the most ferocious punchers in heavyweight history. 'The Bronze Bomber' stopped Helenius in under three minutes in October, and Joshua was under pressure to deliver an equally devastating, statement win. Despite the sensational finish, there are still plenty of question marks surrounding Joshua's performance. The same cautious approach may not be wise against Wilder. "I just want to see AJ fight someone of the calibre of Robert Helenius and treat him like Wilder," former world champion David Haye said on BBC 5 live. "He can't just stand there and jab, it doesn't work against Wilder. He will run through him." ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/8/12/a96f65b8-4290-4e32-9db6-f058bd850984.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/8/12/c667305f-c7cc-4002-b665-b343b4cf1c41.jpg

Conor Benn: UK Anti-Doping appeals against decision to lift doping suspension..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/CDD4/production/_130829625_gettyimages-1391831336.jpg Conor Benn last fought in April 2022UK Anti-Doping and the British Boxing Board of Control have appealed against a decision to lift Conor Benn's suspension from boxing. Benn, 26, failed two voluntary tests for female fertility drug clomifene before his cancelled October bout with Chris Eubank Jr. UK Anti-Doping issued a suspension in March; the independent National Anti-Doping Panel lifted it after a hearing. Benn reacted by saying he was "disappointed" to learn of the appeal. "I'm disappointed at the news of an appeal being made, having already been cleared by both the WBC and National Anti-Doping Panel to continue my career without restriction," the boxer said. "I am innocent. Nothing has changed and I remain confident in my position." A UK Anti-Doping (Ukad) statement read: "UK Anti-Doping can today confirm that it has filed an appeal in respect of a decision handed down by the independent National Anti-Doping Panel regarding anti-doping proceedings brought by Ukad against Mr Conor Benn. "As confirmed previously in Ukad's statement on 28th July 2023, Mr Benn is no longer subject to a provisional suspension." The tests were conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (Vada), which until this case had operated independent to the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC). The board employs Ukad to do its testing, but elite fighters such as Anthony Joshua hire Vada to add an extra layer of testing. Benn and Eubank were scheduled to meet on 8th October at a catchweight of 157lb, 30 years after their fathers Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr fought. Having failed the two voluntary drug tests, Benn gave up his licence with the BBBofC in the weeks after his planned contest with Eubank was cancelled.

Oleksandr Usyk knocks out Daniel Dubois in round nine of heavyweight world title fight in Poland..By Kal Sajad, BBC Sport at Tarczynski Arena, Wroclaw.ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/1440/cpsprodpb/4DE4/production/_130904991_gettyimages-124540823.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/8/26/0a667b94-1f1b-42ea-b031-424e972ac8cd.pngBriton Daniel Dubois said he felt "cheated out of victory" after his heavyweight world-title challenge ended in defeat by Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk on a dramatic night in front of 40,000 boisterous fans in Poland. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/108E3/production/_130911876_gettyimages-1640922273.jpgOleksandr Usyk hit the canvas in round 5 claiming he had been hit with a low blow by Daniel DuboisDubois, a huge underdog, floored the champion in a controversial fifth round. With Usyk wincing in pain on the canvas, the referee ruled the shot - which appeared to land on the belt line - a low blow. Usyk, 36, regained control and dropped Dubois, 25, with a flurry of shots in the eighth round at Tarczynski Arena, Wroclaw, before the referee halted the contest following another knockdown in the ninth. "I didn't think that was a low blow, I thought it landed," Dubois said after the fight. His promoter Frank Warren agreed, calling it a "complete home decision" as he criticised referee Luis Pabon and said he planned to appeal. "I like Usyk, but he was not fit to go on and they gave him a couple of minutes to recover," added Warren. In fact, Usyk took three minutes and 45 seconds before declaring he was fit to resume - fighters are allowed five minutes when caught with a low blow, although Dubois was not deducted a point by the referee. Usyk, a former undisputed cruiserweight champion, responded well towards the end of the fifth round and reasserted his dominance in rounds seven and eight as he made a successful second defence of his WBA 'Super', IBF and WBO belts. He also retained his undefeated record, winning a 21st professional bout, to keep hopes of a blockbuster fight with Tyson Fury alive. "I'm ready to fight Tyson Fury," Usyk said. "I feel good. I am grateful for my team, my family, my children. I love you. I'm grateful for my country and the Ukrainian army. Thank you so much." Briton Fury - the WBC world champion - and Usyk have previously failed to agree terms on a historic bout for all four heavyweight belts. A dramatic, controversial fightThe gulf in boxing fundamentals was clear to see as early as round one with Usyk winning the battle of the jabs. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/8/26/2373054f-13e5-471c-91bf-4be10cfdd50e.jpgBut Dubois, whose only career loss came against Briton Joe Joyce in 2020, responded by landing an uppercut in the second. However, Usyk, light on his feet and working at a high intensity, was clearly superior, dancing around the ring, picking Dubois apart in the early rounds. Lightning lit up the night sky above the open-air stadium in the fifth, seconds later Dubois landed that thunderous right to the body. The crowd gasped, their hero rolling on the floor. Replays showed the shot was borderline, on the belt. Usyk remained on the floor. He took his time to recover, and had no interest in touching gloves as the contest continued. The dramatic round ended with both men landing punches after the bell. Usyk then sensed blood as Dubois tired, landing with a flurry of shots in the eighth to floor Dubois. The challenger bravely got up as the count reached nine, but a straight right in the ninth brought an end to the contest. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/8/26/ffe9d4b2-df5f-4c47-a252-7b2b71702c3a.jpgMany gave Dubois a puncher's chance heading into the fight, and that may have just been the punch in the fifth round. "We will order an appeal after what's happened here," Warren said. "It's all about a legitimate punch that stopped him and he should have won. Everyone wants to see the unification [with Fury, who is in Warren's stable of fighters]. If Daniel had got the result then it would have been easy to do. We will see now." Rain cannot dampen Ukrainian partyUsyk was fighting in front of a 'home' crowd for the first time since the Russian invasion of Ukraine; a third of those attending had travelled from Ukraine or were refugees now living in Poland or neighbouring countries. Seven Ukrainian boxers featured on the undercard for the event dedicated to and celebrating a country torn apart through war. As the rain fell, with the ringside press scrambling for cover, a video message from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was played on the big screen to a rapturous reception. Dubois had cut a serious figure throughout fight week, but the challenger made his ring walk grinning and singing along to Bob Marley's 'So Much Things To Say'. The roaring, ear-splitting noise for Usyk's entrance was something else. He strode to the ring with purpose, not even allowing himself a slight moment to soak in the electric atmosphere. On an emotionally-charged night, not even the heavy rain could dampen the jubilant Ukrainian fans. There were wins for British middleweight Hamzah Sheeraz, who beat Dmytro Mytrofanov, and debutant Aadam Hamed - son of boxing legend Prince Naseem Hamed - on the undercard. But Dubois' hopes of tearing up the script and etching his name into the history books ended in failure, although he will leave Poland with his stock high, while plenty of fans feel he should be a world champion.

Chris Eubank Jr promises 'exquisite and supernatural' victory over Liam Smith in rematch..By Coral Barry, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/16B7/production/_130951850_e37046acf0ade7ba97fa585dc6f35a5f525d5ab3.jpg Liam Smith is on a four-fight winning streak while Chris Eubank is coming off the first stoppage loss of his careerChris Eubank Jr described Liam Smith's victory against him as a "miracle" as he vowed to take revenge in their rematch on Saturday in Manchester. Smith won in four rounds seven months ago in the first knockout defeat of Eubank's career. Eubank, 33, now faces new "pressure and risk" in a fight that marks the first time he has faced an opponent twice. "The performance will be exquisite, supernatural, a beautiful artistic display of savage boxing," Eubank said. "Even to Liam, he may not admit it, he was not expecting the [first] fight to go how it finished. Nobody did. I have to prove that I am the better fighter. "Me saying it, me believing it, is not enough. If he pulls it off again, I can't argue with anybody. I can't argue with him. "I can't argue with the boxing public. He will be the better fighter and that will be it." Liverpool's Smith, 35, was amused by Eubank's description of his January win, saying: "Which one's the miracle? What shot was the miracle?" Eubank replied: "The miracle was you walking away with a win over me. You shouldn't have won the fight and I am going to rectify that." Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, the fighters and their teams argued back and forth, with Eubank's trainer labelling Smith's victory as a "punch from the gods". Seven months ago, the pre-fight news conference was marred by homophobic taunts and taunts about social class, but there were no such flashpoints this time, with both men sticking to fighting talk. Smith tried to irk his opponent and his new trainer Brian 'Bomac' McIntyre, but Eubank remained calm. "Chris is a sponge. He soaks it up and executes it. He already knows what he has to do," McIntyre said of the new partnership. He is Eubank's third head trainer in four years after spells with Roy Jones Jr and Nate Vazquez. Smith warned the American trainer he would be blamed should Eubank lose again. "Brian and the rest of the team, be prepared for the backlash because he'll blame you," Smith said. "He blames everyone bar himself. You make the mistakes. Take it on the chin yourself. "The miracle was how easy it was [in the first fight]. The fight never got going. I [only] touched you."

Liam Smith v Chris Eubank Jr 2: Pros and pundits give predictions for middleweight rematch..ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/1440/cpsprodpb/104AE/production/_130943766_gettyimages-1458328698.jpgChris Eubank Jr aims to gain revenge over Liam Smith in their rematch at Manchester Arena on Saturday. The middleweight rivals are set to face off again seven months after their first encounter, at which Smith stopped Eubank inside four rounds. It was the first stoppage defeat of Eubank's career and 35-year-old Smith is hunting a fifth knockout win in a row. Eubank, 33, says Smith's win was a "miracle" - a description his Liverpudlian opponent has laughed off as ridiculous. While Smith may well go on to challenge for world honours with another win, Eubank's career may not recover from another big defeat. Can Eubank get back to winning ways or will it be another happy night for Smith and his supporters making the short trip from Liverpool ? Here are predictions from some big names in the world of boxing:Former unified super-featherweight champion Mikaela Mayer: "I'm hoping to see [trainer] Brian 'Bomac' McIntyre's influence in Eubank's gameplan. I believe there will be some adjustments on his part and it will make for a more competitive fight. Eubank Jr to edge the win in a close rematch."
Heavyweight Frazer Clarke: "Liam is great at breaking people down. I probably see after round nine because Chris is fit."
British light-middleweight Josh Kelly: "I think it's going to be a Smith win. I'm not sure if it's going to be in the same fashion, it could be a points decision this time, but I'm certain it'll be another Smith win."
Two-weight world champion Natasha Jonas: "Liam wins. I think the best Chris can do is make it last longer."
Boxxer promoter Ben Shalom: "I still believe Liam is the slight favourite in this fight. And if he's on form, he's 100%, he's had the preparation, he should win the fight. But it's one of those that could go either way. I think we will see the fight we thought we would see. One that goes the distance, an absolute shootout."
Smith's coach Joe McNally: "Jr's a magnificent talent. He can fight, he can box. Can we capitalise on a lot of the mistakes he does? Most definitely, which we plan to do."
Former light-middleweight world champion Hannah Rankin: "This time I am going with Smith on points. I feel that Eubank is a strong and will be less weight drained this time, but I think Smith has the superior boxing IQ."
Unbeaten middleweight Hamzah Sheeraz: "I've got Smith winning again via knockout but I feel the fight is going to last a little longer this time, with Smith winning around rounds 8-10. Eubank is going to be more cautious of Smith this time and could pull it off but I don't see it."
Light-welterweight Harlem Eubank: "I predict an emphatic win for Chris Eubank Jr on Saturday night and, likely, it will be by stoppage."

Daniel Dubois' promoter formally appeals to have Oleksandr Usyk result overturned..By Kal Sajad, BBC Sport.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/0E43/production/_118815630_gettyimages-1321997032.jpgPromoter Frank Warren has officially appealed to the WBA for Daniel Dubois' loss to Oleksandr Usyk to be ruled a no contest and that a rematch be ordered. Briton Dubois, 26, floored heavyweight champion Usyk in the sixth round in Poland on 26th August, but the punch was declared a low blow by the referee. Ukrainian Usyk, 36, then stopped Dubois in the ninth round to retain his unified heavyweight titles. Warren confirmed to BBC Sport the appeal was lodged on Tuesday. If the decision is not overturned, the promoter hopes the sanctioning body could still order an immediate rematch. Two-weight world champion Usyk was given almost four minutes' recovery time by Puerto Rican official Luis Pabon as a replay on the three big screens inside Wroclaw's open-air stadium appeared to show Dubois' hook landing on Usyk's beltline. Dubois tired as Usyk dropped the challenger in the eighth and again in the ninth before Pabon halted the contest. Immediately after the fight, Dubois - who was the WBA mandatory challenger - felt he was "cheated" out of victory. The Londoner did not attend the post-fight news conference as Queensbury Promotions' Warren and trainer Don Charles criticised the decision, before Usyk and his team insisted the low-blow ruling was the correct call. The punch also split opinion in the boxing world. Former world champion Carl Frampton, speaking on TV commentary, said the punch was legal while several boxers, including Usyk's former opponent Tony Bellew, felt it was a low blow. If a rematch is not ordered, Usyk may face Croatia's IBF mandatory challenger Filip Hrgovic, while an undisputed fight with Britain's WBC champion Tyson Fury is also being mooted for early next year.
